Germans arrested by US-Soldiers (SFP 186)

German soldiers controlled and arrested by US-Troops. At 2:00 you can see a different point of view, both sides working hand in hand to extinguish a fire.

My father fought in the North Africa campaign and all through Italy. He said the British troops looked after ordinary German soldiers when they were captured with food and medical attention for their wounded but any SS they caught it was a different story, as they saw the results of SS handiwork and atrocities throughout Italy.

My grandfather served in the navy in WWII. At some point his ship had to transport German prisoners and they were more that happy to be aboard and never started any trouble.

As a young boy, I remember passing several times by a German POW camp in West Helena, Ark. There were thousands of them, and many were working on road projects throughout the area. I sure they were glad to be out of the war. My Dad was a lead carpenter at an Army Hospital in Memphis, Tn and he had several POWs in his work party. He spoke highly of their work and to, my knowledge, never had a problem with them.

The Americans took the captured Germans to the States and put em to work. The Soviet Russians took em to Siberia and other horrible places. Very few returned alive.

My uncle told me, when they took German prisoners the first thing they made them do was take off their shirts and raise their arms. If they had an SS tattoo in the armpit, they were shot through the head, no questions asked. Regular army were allowed to dress, and got humane treatment.

@GRACE SLICK which right wing websites is that nugget of info from? Do you know the scale of the problems the western allies had to deal with after a war the germans started and should have ended 3 years previously....about 50.000 to 100.000 germans died in allied hands, drop in the ocean considering they had to feed 5 million soldiers fleeing the russians.. Add on around 13 million civilians doing the same About 8 million slave labourers and displaced people(again,a problem the germans caused) Add on all the other devastation around europe, and the problems in the far east, the germans are hardly in a position to complain about human rights abuses

My uncle, Johann Hartmann, was a very young Wehrmacht soldier on the front. He said that, towards the end of the the war, there were new and very young soldiers made available. Kids around 15 years of age. When the serious fighting started, some of these poor kids shit themselves. Cried, too. I find that incredibly sad. My grandfather was a Colonel in the Wehrmacht. Grandfather's brother was Erich "Bubi" Hartmann, the young and famous WWII Flying Ace: the "Blonde Knight"... He's all over the internet and was just a kid when he started. These were good men.

Well for one thing the German army we're just regular soldiers they got caught up in the madness just like everyone else the SS and the death's-head was a fanatical. Soldier for Hitler's cause and once they committed themselves they were trapped like everyone else what you going to do when you're attacking just lay down your weapons say I give up it doesn't work that way. They did exactly as a soldier would do and even though it was horrendous they were a badass Army.
