I think this might be one of the only times I would use a harness. One with a handle on the back

I don’t know anything so don’t listen to me. But my girlfriend said the same thing to me. I told her that I would like to teach our dogs to swim without it and become strong swimmers first. I’d hate for my dogs to learn to swim with a crutch and god forbid something happens and they don’t know what to do with that crutch not available to them. I would let them use it in the same instance us humans use it, on boat when the shore is too far to swim to lol.

It’s just safety. It’s not a crutch and I’ve taught many many dogs to swim.
