German PzH 2000 - 155mm Self-Propelled Howitzer : Overview

Ғылым және технология

Development of the PzH 2000 (Panzerhaubitze) began in 1987. It evolved from the international SP70 programme, which was cancelled in 1980s due to funding problems. Prototype of the PzH 2000 was completed in 1993. Initially German Army planned to order a total of 1 254 new self-propelled howitzers, however in 1996 a contract was signed only for 185 artillery systems. First systems were delivered to the German Army in 1998. Export operators of the PzH 2000 are Croatia (12), Greece, Italy and the Netherlands. In 2013 Qatar ordered 24 of these howitzers.
The PzH 2000 is fitted with a 155-mm / L52 howitzer. Vehicle has a fully-automatic loading system with ammunition management system. The PzH 2000 is compatible with standard NATO 155-mm ammunition. Maximum range of fire is 30 km with standard HE-FRAG projectile and 40 km with rocket-assisted projectile. Maximum rate of fire is 9 rounds per minute. It is capable of Multiple Round Simultaneous Impact (MRSI) firing. A total of 60 rounds are stowed in a magazine.
Secondary armament consists of a roof-mounted 7.62-mm machine gun.
The PzH 2000 receives target data via datalink. The gun is automatically laid using the fire control data.
Front armor of the PzH 2000 provides protection against 14.5-mm rounds. All-round protection is against small arms fire and artillery shell splinters. Explosive reactive armor can be fitted if necessary. The PzH 2000 is also fitted with automatic fire suppression and NBC protection systems.
The PzH 2000 has a crew of five, including commander, gunner, two loaders and driver. Target engagements can be carried out by a crew of two men. Loaders are employed only when autoloader fails.
Chassis of the PzH 2000 uses some components of the Leopard 2 main battle tank. Vehicle is powered by the MTU MT881 Ka-500 supercharged diesel engine, developing 1 000 hp. The PzH 2000 is also fitted with auxiliary power unit, powering all systems, when the main engine is turned off.
The PzH 2000 is reloaded by two operators. Projectiles are automatically picked up from the back of the vehicle and stowed in the autoloader's magazine. This self-propelled howitzer is replenished in less than 12 minutes.
Hope you enjoy!

The PzH2000 can be used in "direct fire", yes. It's an emergency solution , tho. Normal MBT can not be used as artillery pieces, as they lack the gun-movement range aswell as the needed artillery computers to actually hit something.

Very much an emergency solution. I don't think they even make 155mm HEAT rounds, much less KE penetrators. OTOH, a 155mm HE can probably flip a tank, if it lands close enough, which gives you a mission kill.

For those who are highly "dissapointed" that their countries version of the PzH 2000 was not mentioned yet is featured as footage, get over it. My aim and focus is to show the features of the vehicle and it's history. Germany being key. So if you are so upset by not seeing your country mentioned, please, feel free to make you own video. Oh and I don't give a shit how "terrible" I pronounced the wording of the vehicle. I'm not German and couldn't care less. It's like giving someone a hard time who's not from England to pronounce Gloucestershire or Worcestershire. I don't care lol!! Stop getting so bloody offended by a piece of military equipment lol

The difference: Worcestershire follows no logical language rules. It's a weird lingual obstacle. A tank trap if you want to stick to this figure of speech. Unless you are actually informed about this certain thing there is no way to naturally know how to pronounce such a thing correctly. Panzerhaubitze on the other hand follows 1:1 what would be given in any general advice for German pronunciation. Nobody expects you to deliver a perfect (or even good) fluent complicated German word. But the people who are trying to help you here don't want to shame you or laugh about you - they just want to help. Mostly fans who watched all of your videos. So please don't ridicule them :(

One of the important advantages of the PzH 2000 is with it's design of ammunition storage and the lever type loader where the ammo is vertical most of the time. The gun barrel doesn't need to be depressed to load. If you look at the AS 90 and Palladin, they both have to lower the gun from a high elevation to re-load. Wastes time and lowers accruacy. The PzH 2000 just stays on target and fires.

Brother, judging our landscape we don't really need tanks. What we need is Patria AMV with mortar and 105mm gun systems. Tanks don't work that well in Croatia(look at the Homeland war and even WW2) , maybe only in continental part, but elsewhere just nope. I do agree we need like maybe 100 tanks, maybe some variants of T-90 or even maybe Leopard 2A5 or 6s but we should rely more on those fast 105mm Patria AMVs and it would be nice to have atleast 300 of those. With the newly adopted (2017) "Leistungsgesteigerte Munition" (improved performance ammunition) the maximum range reachable is about 56-60km Also: Having 3000 NM of Torque at 2000rpm really does give powerful boost out of the ~18 liters of capacity, whilst the 1000hp seem a little underpowered

Thank you! Finally :D Since I whined like 10 times or so for this thing to be covered. Great video and now I actually know more about it. The interior looks pretty large for an armored vehicle. Should be good for the crew to work in their. It's no frontline vehicle anyways. But we saw some footage that indicates it could be used as direct fire tank substitute in dire situations. Always good to have such features! What I missed in this video was a clearer comparison to the vehicles you already looked at. Especially compared to the AS90. I would like to know what you thing which one is better or more suitable. But even if you don't want to hear it - seriously: try to punch in such terms as Panzerhaubitze into google translate and click the sound icon. Nobody expects you to pronounce it correctly. There are some combinations of letters in there that doesn't exist in English but you could easily come up with a decent "Pan-ser-hou-bit-seh". Whatever you said there - it was sadly unrecognizable. Don't see this as hating please! Just some constructive critique. Naturally there will always be strange foreign terms if you keep covering all kinds of vehicles and it's always respectful and dedicated if you try to pronounce it as good as possible. The Germans watching this put in many years of effort to actually understand the video and it is a lot of work so maybe one word would be some good fan service.

They come usually in groups of 2-4. Imagine the hell they bring with this fire rate. I was trained as an artillery spotter during my basic military service, but sadly never saw them live. It sure would have been spectacular. We only had the old M109 in our batteries.

one of the big factors is you get five of these together and they do what's called a multiple round simultaneous impact. MRS you can basically have 20 rounds go off on a Target at the same time nothing's walking out each individual artillery piece can land for Rounds on the same Target at the same time

The thing that you missed is that 1 artillery piece can shoot 6 rounds in short succession that impact the target at the same time due to different sized propellant charges and the auto targeting system. I guess this is not unique to the PZH 2000 but it's still impressive...
