Geraldton, or more accurately, the City of Greater Geraldton, is, at the time of writing, W.A.'s second largest regional centre behind Bunbury and in front of Kalgoorlie and Albany.

    Geraldton is very under rated as a tourist destination. I like it. I was surprised to see replicas of some of the Batavia relics there.

    I'm being a bit sneaky and using a bit of old footage with new stuff :) The Batavia exhibit has now moved the the Shipwrecks Gallery in Freo :)

    Love the aerial shot of the HMAS Sydney memorial. Seen it many times but never from that angle.

    Thanks, that was actually taken with our old Phantom 1 before it even had a gimbal on it, it was very jerky and all I could do was pick out a couple of the least worst bits :)

    That they are....I still fondly remember being harassed whenever in the town centre for cigarettes or money $. I can also testify to the rapid loss of personal property (i.e. motorcycle). Its such a rare privilege to share one's hard earnt possessions with some of the select locals living in Gero.

    Where does Mandurah rank?

  • @WesternAustraliaNowAndThen

    @WesternAustraliaNowAndThen

    4 жыл бұрын

    Sorry for the late reply, been away for a while. Mandurah is a bit of a sneaky one as it covers rather a large area depending on how you look at it. For some reason I don't tend to think of it as a country town, which I suppose it really is. If the whole of Greater Mandurah was taken into account then the population would be around 81,000 but then Greater Rockingham comes in at 125,000 so I tend not to look at these places as being anything more than an extension of Greater Perth these days :)

    @@WesternAustraliaNowAndThen Officially Mandurah is not part of the metropolitan area. It was, briefly, and the outcry was deafening.

    @@oneeyedphotographer I think sooner or later it will be again as the whole coast from Yanchep to Mandurah becomes one long strip of suburban jungle.

    You would be correct.it was a nice place to live but that was 15 to 20 years ago.now it’s a place where shops are closing down and the crime rate is out of control.I’m glad I left the place.
