When I was in college in 1982, a friend of mine just return from his spring break trip to Maui. George Benson has a home in Lahaina. My friend was at club there and George Benson came into the club. Management closed the doors, Benson played for the crowd all night long!!! What a night!!!

Once I was in a local music store in Paramus, NJ and there was a loudspeaker page for George Benson. I asked the salesman “Was that an inside joke ?” and he said no, George Benson was probably in the store. “He comes in here a lot”, he said. Then he pointed “that’s him right over there.” And I saw a man all dressed in a white sport jacket and hat answering the phone while his little boy circled. I told the salesman I was a huge fan and he told me I should go over and say hello. He said George was a super nice guy and never minded meeting and chatting with a fan. I could see that he was busily engaged on the phone so I left him alone. But I couldn’t believe how close I was standing to such talent. And one thing I hadn’t expected was how short he is. I’m only 5’3 and I think he was shorter than I. Which explains the scaled down size of the awesome Ibanez signature guitar. Anyway, I’ve always regretted that I didn’t wait around to get the chance to tell him how much I enjoy and admire his guitar playing. Mr. Benson is without a doubt one of the best.

I worked at a store called SCOOP on 5th Ave in Pittsburgh. This incredible musician & his son came in..1977..we closed the store to the public for 2 hours so they could shop. He was so charming & generous it is a cherished memory of my life. He sent us a case sparkling something. Does anyone remember the store..carrying a Scoop bag was so cool...not even a Birkin in today's would could compare....much simpler time..let's go back there ..thank you MR George Benson for your musicality & being the classy man I was so fortunate to meet you

Sweet Jesus!!! That bass player is about as funky in the pocket as you could get! Real solid. Good Lawd, George was on God level with that straight up live performance. genius level top notch performer. To just walk on stage, and do that, and walk off!!!!! WOW!!!!!!!!

George Benson is a a legend no doubt about it.

On this day in 1978 {April 23rd} "On Broadway"* by George Benson peaked at #2 {for 2 weeks} on Billboard's Hot Soul Singles chart, for the two weeks it was at #2, the #1 record for those two weeks was "Too Much, Too Little, Too Late" by Johnny Mathis and Deniece Williams... At the time "On Broadway" was at #25 on Billboard's Top 100 chart, six weeks later it would peak at #7 {for 1 week}... Between 1975 and 1998 the Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania native had twenty-five records on the Hot Soul Singles chart, ten made the Top 10 with two reaching #1, "Give Me The Night" for three weeks in September of 1980 and "Turn Your Love Around" for one week in January of 1983... For those newly discovering Mr. Benson, find his album The George Benson Cookbook released in the sixties. He can really rip it up! While his dancing isn't quite world-class :), he is undoubtedly one of the most incredible singers and players ever.

Every time I hear this song, it brings tears of Joy to my eyes! It is such a Perfect song, and this is coming from a diehard Rock/Heavy Metal Fan! Mr. Benson, you will forever be in the Pantheon of Guitar Gods!

Check out George Benson jamming with BB King for about 20 minutes on the album BB King and friends from I think 79. Wow! My favorite Johnny Winter and his brother Edgar are on that album too!

He is the total package. Musician and showman. And he appears to be having fun.

I was telling a friend once how I thought Mr. Benson was a great guitarist and he reminded me that George is a great singer as well. Yes indeed. Add performer to the GREAT list as well now!

I saw George perform live maybe 20 years ago at a free concert and I will never forget his eyes had so much light coming out. He had rl laser eyes

George Benson a man in heart and soul,and he performs that through his fantastic playing on his beloved guitar instrument, a natural talent! I feel the positive energy vibration flowing through my body ...straight into my soul! Also, I appreciate the many good musicians that surround him... All of them, one by one, are good musicians... ! Thank you !

Just phenomenal! It blew me away the first time I ever heard him scat with the guitar note-for-note; (like he does here starting at 2:34) and it was so perfect! What a talent!

Scatting isn’t as hard as it sounds. To use an audio metaphor, it’s like taking another line out of the same signal. He’s thinking this melody line anyway. Singing a regular song and playing lead at the same time is actually harder. Playing a bass line and singing lead is way harder because you’ve got to split your head in half and track two melodies at once, plus lyrics, plus independent dynamic decisions.

Due to the greatness of his voice, we often forget how great his guitar is. This guy is incredible.

George Benson has been at the forefront of jazz guitar since Breezin' came out in 1976. I got to see two shows in Houston that summer and it was truly amazing. For the second show, I got a table about 10' from him and was in musical bliss for the entire show. And he's only gotten better since then! This performance was in 2011 - just 6 years ago - and he's just killing it here! Thanks to whomever posted this!!

He was a renown jazz guitarist way before Breezin, playing with Miles Davis and similar giants! When he had the big hit with This Masquerade, folks were shocked to find out it was him!

This guy has been ripping it up since the 60s. He started playing professionally (sort of) when he was eight years old. In the sixties and seventies he was considered one of the fastest players in the world. Check out the George Benson Cookbook, I think his second named album.

This is the song that inspired me to get a buy a guitar and learn to play. Mostly now it is classical guitar. Toss in SRV and and "Little Wing" and I am a happy musician. George Benson is a class act....enjoy!

And this year if God allows me. I buy my guitar and start playing ... I always wanted to be a guitarist ... And I will be, in the fall of my life. It does not matter!

If you got the itch, scratch it! Guitar is one of the most rewarding and fun things to take up as a hobby and have fun. Limitless possibilities. There was nothing better than learning it and then joining up with other musicians and playing even the most basic of songs with them. I started in 9th grade, that year I played our school talent show with some friends and covered Have a Drink on Me by AcDc. That experience hooked me and I've been playing religiously ever since!

He is one of the very few remaining great jazz guitarists of all time. I can think only of the great Pat Martino as the other.

I saw GB in London 1982 and his oncore was BREZZING and that still brings tears of joy to my eyes. This is also George at his best. Thank you are a true star.....
