It's implied during this show and the big bang theory that sheldon was the protected one hence him not knowing that georgie took care of the family financially after george passed. He even paid for Sheldon's studies tho Mary and Sheldon never gave him his due credit, overlooking his business genius over Sheldon's academic one. So yeah Sheldon was probably Mary's favorite while george looked over Sheldon more knowing that Georgie and Missy were pretty much capable by themselves hence the "he's not really a social butterfly" comment.

@Mushroom Elm That's how my parents did it once I was 15. I could get a TV in my room, as long as I pay for it with my own money and if it started to affect my grades too much, it would get taken away. Same deal with a computer. I could get one, but I had to pay for it myself and it couldn't affect my grades too much.

George did ask that Georgie put the money into a college fund. So, you can see they are focussed on thinking better for their kids. But they can't see the irony in coming home from work and sitting in front of the tv (and not bettering themselves) as a learning tool for their children. They're lucky Sheldon is not like them and is so self focussed. Both Georgie and Missy are able to learn social cues but in otder to be focussed on learning you have to see it being done. Or be like Sheldon

George is one of those few people who can actually pull off coming across as polite to one person but a jerk to others in the same moment. Too many people think they can do it oh, and just come across is looking like a jerk to everyone. It just goes to show how layered George's character is, and how such a great young actor got that roll

I wish people would stop hating on Sheldon, because he can't help the way he is in this show, he can't help being selfish and a spoiled brat. It's very likely he has autism/aspergers.

Georgie was right about the TV. This was that old school parenting where parents are gods. Logic, reason, and setting examples go out the window because the parent is all powerful. A parent has more responsibility than just providing food and shelter.

I love this show cause it's like the middle, w a Sheldon and all his scientific and mathmatical insights

It’s a shame that the parents only talk to Georgie and Missy when they want to scold them or to tell them how they should be more like Sheldon. Every time they try to reach out to them, they are told to shut up and sent to their room it’s getting annoying at this point specially when the mom does it cuz she acts like she’s so perfect but she is clearly neglecting 2 of her children. The worst part of it all is that they are clearly good kids, they aren’t even rebellious or misbehaved, even when they are just trying to have a friendly casual conversation some how they just end up getting told how dumb they are, I’m surprised Georgie didn’t hold a grudge.

Georgie was business savvy. He had his own tire store as an adult and was much more financially successful than Sheldon. Sheldon's job as a physicist doesn't earn him enough money in California to live without a roommate in his own apartment. Buying his own home was never even discussed during the entire show's run. Obviously, having adjacent apartments from the other characters was an important part of the show but after 10 years not even having saved enough money to move out on your own implies he wasn't very wealthy. Sheldon never even owned a car, that's a huge expense he also never had. Other than Raj, who's parents were wealthy, its basically implied every other character on Big Bang Theory lived paycheck to paycheck.
