when you have a quiet evening to soak in a movie, watch Pure Country. its worth it.

Fun fact, when filming the movie these scenes are from he refused to kiss the female lead because he didn't want to kiss a woman other than his wife. He also actually did the roping and riding in the movie because he is a real life cowboy with a ranch and a degree in agriculture. An all around great guy, loved by all, and the real deal. That's why he's the king.

Pure Country is a fun movie. My wife is a professional singer. When she’s going to perform I often say “best wishes being the dancing chicken” she just thinks I’m being weird, which is true, but “dancing chicken” is from an important part in the movie this song is in. Excellent review

Debatable, but he is up there.

George is the best. 61 #1 hits. More than anyone I believe. George grew up around horses and now has a ranch of his own. He actually was not a bronc rider despite what a lot of people think. He did and sometimes still does (mostly in celebrity competitions etc) compete in team roping. George is a humble and genuinely nice guy. This video was mostly scenes from a movie he starred in called Pure Country. After reading the script and realizing that his character had a love interest, he made it clear that the extent of his "love scenes" would be embraces. No beds and no kissing, because he thought it would be disrespectful to his wife. Though he is officially retired (again) he occasionally does a short concert tour. The venues he plays these days are huge places like the Astrodome in Houston, and they sell out in minutes. He did a good job in the movie. Worth a watch. Stay safe and well and adorable Maggie.

You really need to see that movie. The context of the song is clearer there and the movie is very good. Pure Country.

The video we watched was the clips from the 1992 movie "Pure Country." To be honest I'm not a big country music fan but I really liked the movie and do like older version of country music. Glad you liked it, see you next time Maggie!

This song was big about 30 years ago. It is a classic and still deserves to be heard today. But we do not hear this kind of connection to the roots of country much anymore. Liked the song and the video (thanks Rose), nice reaction by you. 😀(And Poppy too)

This was my first ex-wife and my song. It can still be difficult for me to listen to at times. To say George was big is an understatement, and my grandmother just loved him. He's the real deal as a cowboy and rodeo rider and not just someone wanting that kind of reputation. His "Amarillo By Morning" is also outstanding.

I loved having him as a substitute agriculture teacher at my high school in Texas. He used to invite us to go to the dancehalls he would play at so he would have an audience. I remember him announcing that he just put out his first album and playing a song called Unwound from it.

You will not be disappointed at all. With 60 #1 hit songs, I'm sure there's more song you will like. I personally have been a Strait fan since he released Unwound in 81. Before I married my beautiful wife, of 37 years, I was informed that I would be playing 2nd fiddle to Mr. Strait. I was okay with that. I believe we have seen him in concert 6 times, and let me tell you, he is like wine and gets better with time. In his movie, Pure Country, he is a country singer named Dusty. and knows that he is being used and abused by his manager and the system. He has taken on a "style" that he can't stand. He decides to leave it, hitch hikes back home, and visits his Grandma, trying to get back to his roots. He makes trades his shiny boots to the truck driver who gives him a lift. gets a fresh haircut, ditching the ponytail look, goes to a ranch, where he pays two fellas to let him hang out, get some "lessons", does some ranch work. Which, in real life, is how he grew up. His drummer and best friend tracks him down. He falls in love with the girl, and comes back ONLY after his Manager agrees to do things HIS way. He comes back with his "new" style, sings a romantic song directly to the girl, woo had ZERO idea was already a star. "I Cross My Heart", and he gets the girl in the end!
