This episode was fine, but TBH I thot the much anticipated finale was a big letdown. Nothing of any profound consequence really. Felt to me like, after all that, they just phoned it in. I was disappointed.

I was a bit disappointed, though there were many good segments. First: two high school staff come to the door to say that George has died. Really? One would speak to the wife in private. It is not their place to blurt it out to the kids. What was the purpose of the vasectomy? To show how George keeps secrets? It would be discovered by the coroner. I think they had several story lines that needed developing. They discussed selling the house, before George spoke with the university. Very odd.

Especially, Whenever they get scolded or corrected or restricted.. and they grow up to realise it was all for their own good.. and they realise it even more when they themselves become parents.. What I found really interesting with this episode was the fact that George was offered a coaching position in Rice University. This episode also seems designed to soften Mary's previous refusal to move on a previous job position where now Sheldon is moving to Caltech, George Junior is married with a child paving a way to their family and Missy wanting to rid that dark shadow of Sheldon being the twin of a child prodigy and somewhat "special". George Senior was an amazing dad. He was not a "Homer Simpson" but similarly poor however did his best to provide for the family. I actually cried at his death as it brought back memories of my mother's death where I never truly grieved which was over a decade ago. I would like to hear thoughts on this...

Honestly, I love how his death isn't milked for drama. It would have been so easy to write the heart attack happening at home with the whole family rushing him to the hospital where they all say heartfelt goodbyes. Instead, it's handled in an arguably more tragically realistic way, by having nothing seem out of the ordinary. Gearge just leaves for a typical day at work, only to never comes back. We don't even see him have the heart attack, and instead receive the news in exactly the same way the family does. It really captures just how sudden and unexpected death can be.

When my dad died 2 years ago, I was the only one in the hospital and was holding out hope until it got really worse. Up until that moment, in the back of my head - he will pull through. As with Missy's reaction, she was hoping. My mother never visited the hospital, and looking back - I think the moment we all found out my dad had a heart attack, she knew. My father was hospitalized around 3 weeks but for some reason my mother had started grieving. This is what got me, when Mary opened the door she did not ask if he's okay or if he survived. Her expression showed she knew while Missy was waiting to hear that he's still alive so she can go to him. We have this view of our parents, especially our Dads as strong and though we watch them grow old, it's so engraved in us that our fathers, will always be like he is. And as a daughter who suffered a father's death, I felt that in this episode

I do think they regrated how in Big Bang he was described as an abusive alcoholic who cheated on his wife, and pretty much spent the whole of young Sheldon walking that back by showing it more as ways in which Sheldon misunderstood his father.

One of the things that was, in my opinion, left out of both the young Sheldon and the big bang theory was resolving Sheldon's mistake regarding Georges supposedly being unfaithful to Mary. In TBBT Sheldon relates about seeing his Father with another woman to Penny and that is why he always knocks three times before opening a door. But if you recall in the young Sheldon it was actually Mary with a blond wig role playing the part of a young German Hausfrau with George that Sheldon barged in on. There was no "other woman". I think there should have been a scene in TBBT where Sheldon relates this to Mary and the she enlightens Sheldon about what he really saw. Had this happened, Sheldon might have seen George in an entirely new light. You see, George was not a bad Father or husband. He was just a guy trying to do his best for his family. Yes, he made mistakes as we all do. Yes, he clashed with his sons as all Fathers do at some point in time. But when it came to his little girl, George shone just like most Fathers do with their Daughters. And when it came to Mary, how many times did George put his thoughts and feelings away to protect and fight for her? Being a Father and Husband is not an easy job. There are times when the pressure can be crushing and you just want to walk away. But you don't. You don't because you know that if you walk away you will be letting everyone down including yourself. If you walk away you can never face yourself in the mirror again because you know you did the wrong thing. If I were a betting man I would be willing to put money on Georges last thoughts. It wouldn't be, "Oh God, I'm going to die." It would actually be "Oh God not now. Who is going to be there for them if you take me now?"

I know that feeling. I lost my father last May as well. The way Sheldon reacted in the show was exactly how I felt. No one was near me at the time, and I was arguing with the doctors pointlessly to somehow release that overwhelming tension. The saddest part is that the last thing I said to my papa was during an argument. It still haunts me, even though he laughed it off. I'm not the type of person who cries easily, but since I was alone, I was able to cry my heart out because my mom wasn't there while I was watching this episode. The way Sheldon tried to think of alternative reality scenarios was exactly what I did for a week or so. Thanks for this series.

I just watched it tonight. It was a double hanky event. While being a comedy and both a prequel, it was also in a way like watching the movie "The Titanic". You know going into it there is gonna be a bad ending. If you were a fan of The Big Bang Theory, set 15 years after Young Sheldon, older Sheldon frequently talked about his dad and how he died right before he went to CalTech at age 14. So the writers were already constrained with that fact and the prequel followed that. I already knew when I started the show what, 7 years ago that one day the dad was gonna die. But I rationalized that day was not today and just enjoyed the show.

It was always meant to happen. His death was inevitable, and it canonically happened shortly before Sheldon moved to California at 14. This is how things were foretold to happen. Doesn't make it any less heartbreaking though, George was such a lovable guy, and the show made you forget he dies young.

i lost my dad on Janurary 19th, the last time we "spoke" wasn't even a conversation, he was under drugs and machines, so he could only hear me cry and beg him to forgive me because due to his actions in and out of the hospital he was put on comfort care, me having to make the choice...i know he would've wanted to not be in pain anymore, he always complained about it, but it hurts me so that I didn't get to say goodbye, I've felt so empty since then
