Lyrics:
I won't let you down
I will not give you up
Gotta have some faith in the sound
It's the one good thing that I've got
I won't let you down
So please don't give me up
Because I would really, really love to stick around

I don't feel enough credit is given to David Fincher as the director of this video. He is the one who put this entire array of jewels together that make up the crown that is this masterpiece of a video. The look, the way the models communicate, what image goes with what lyric and where it goes, the individual different worlds each model exists in within the bigger world of the video, all of this is him, really. It is not surprising that he has gone on to have his film career. David Fincher is a brilliant talent. How lucky all these incredible forces were able to come together at this moment to create this piece of art.

@@halfvader8015 I dunno, maybe I'm translating it wrongly, but the supermodels worked with the message for me. Most of the people lip syncing to George's very male voice were female, two of which had a scene together with sexual tones. At the least, it has a message of wearing whatever you want, whether people judge you for being skimpy/prudish/unstylish (and in a more specific case, a crossdresser, but that's only implied). If we're bringing body types into the equation, though, the supermodels were a bad idea.

Well said. He was one hell of a cat. He even made a private free concert for the nurses of the hospital where his mom was having treatment. I love this video very much. The words, the girls, the guys, closeups, long shots, at last but not the least, the message of this great song. We should care for people around us and we need to nourish our inner freedom, as well. Live it, dont fake it. This is what this all about.

One of the greatest music videos ever made, hands down. No George, just pretty boys and girls, and that was the point. Listen to the music and let you imagine the rest. He touches on his past, the present state of MTV, HIV, fleeting beauty, and the uncertain future. He took a massive gamble on this and it paid off in a major way. R.I.P.

Gilbert... I was a "not" gay teenager stuck in a tiny town in the early 80. It was right when "the gay cancer" became a part of the many reasons people used to discriminate, harass, and vilify homosexuality. I could NOT be gay... I knew I'd get killed if my secret ever became public. So I locked up all my urges, hid from the world emotionally, and spent the next decade fighting myself, because, I couldn't be gay. I so understand what George Michael went through, but turn his anguish up to eleven.

January 11th marks the 1 year anniversary of the death of the late Supermodel, Tatjana Patitz. She was one of the original female supermodels that appeared in George Michael's Freedom 90 music video in the early 1990s along with Cindy Crawford, Christy Turlington, Linda Evangelista and Naomi Campbell. All of the 5 top female supermodel stars were popular, talented and famous in the model industry. I was so heartbroken and devastated over the passing of Tatjana Patitz who sadly died in early 2023 last year. I had no idea that she was battling with breast cancer. It's so sad that she didn't make it to 2024. But she will be remembered as a good person and a good model. She also will never be forgotten. May she continue to Rest In Peace. 1966-2023. 😢👼 🕊️

I won't let you down I will not give you up Gotta have some faith in the sound It's the one good thing that I've got I won't let you down So, please, don't give me up 'Cause I would really, really love to stick around Oh, yeah Heaven knows I was just a young boy Didn't know what I wanted to be (didn't know what I wanted to be) I was every little hungry schoolgirl's pride and joy And I guess it was enough for me (said I guess it was enough for me) To win the race, a prettier face Brand new clothes and a big fat place On your rock and roll TV (rock and roll TV) But today the way I play the game is not the same, no way Think I'm gonna get me some happy I think there's something you should know I think it's time I told you so There's something deep inside of me There's someone else I've got to be Take back your picture in a frame Take back your singing in the rain I just hope you understand Sometimes the clothes do not make the man All we have to do now Is to take these lies and make them true somehow All we have to see Is that I don't belong to you And you don't belong to me (yeah, yeah) Freedom (I won't let you down) Freedom (I will not give you up) Freedom (gotta have some faith in the sound) You got to give what you take (it's the one good thing that I've got) Freedom (I won't let you down) Freedom (so, please, don't give me up) Freedom ('cause I would really, really love) You got to give what you take (to stick around) Heaven knows we sure had some fun, boy What a kick, just a buddy and me (what a kick, just a buddy and me) We had every big-shot good time band on the run, boy We were living in a fantasy (said we were living in a fantasy) We won the race, got out of the place Went back home, got a brand new face for the boys on MTV (boys on MTV) But today the way I play the game has got to change, oh, yeah (oh, yeah) Now I'm gonna get myself happy I think there's something you should know I think it's time I stopped the show There's something deep inside of me There's someone I forgot to be Take back your picture in a frame Don't think that I'll be back again I just hope you understand Sometimes the clothes do not make the man All we have to do now Is to take these lies and make them true somehow All we have to see Is that I don't belong to you And you don't belong to me (yeah, yeah) Freedom (I won't let you down) Freedom (I will not give you up) Freedom (gotta have some faith in the sound) You got to give what you take (it's the one good thing that I've got) Freedom (I won't let you down) Freedom (so, please, don't give me up) Freedom ('cause I would really, really love) You got to give what you take (to stick around, to stick around) Well, it looks like the road to heaven But it feels like the road to hell When I knew which side my bread was buttered I took the knife as well Posing for another picture Everybody's got to sell But when you shake your ass, they notice fast And some mistakes were built to last That's what you get That's what you get That's what you get I say that's what you get I say that's what you get for changing your mind That's what you get for changing your mind That's what you get That's what you get And after all this time I just hope you understand Sometimes the clothes do not make the man All we have to do now (oh, yeah) Is to take these lies and make them true somehow All we have to see Is that I don't belong to you And you don't belong to me (yeah, yeah) Freedom (oh) Freedom (My) freedom You got to give what you take Freedom (I'll hold on to my) freedom (My) freedom You got to give what you take (you got to give what) (To give what, to give what you take) Yeah You got to give what, to give what, to give May not be what you want from me Just the way it's got to be Lose the face now I've got to live

This song was about George's fight with Sony. He sued Sony to get out of his contract so he could have more creative control. He wanted to stop being a "Bubble Gum" teen idol. Hence burning the motorcycle jacket. The phrase "I won't let you down, I would really love to stick around" is what he told Sony. The scenes with the pricked fingers represents signing a contract wih Sony sealed with blood or simply a deal wit the devil for fame. What was produced is arguably the greatest male singers in the history of music. RIP George!

That may be because these women were the super models of the 80s. Linda Evangelista, the first one to appear in the video, known to have said that she did not get out of bed for less than 10000$ a day, Christy Turlington wrapped in the white sheet, Naomi Campbell, the first black super model, Cindy Crawford in the bathtub, and a girl whose face I recognized, called Tatjana Patitz. There are also 5 male models. but these 5 women are a pure concentrate of absolute beauty. And the video was made by no less than David Fincher, who went on to become, well David Fincher of Seven-Fight Club-Zodiac-Benjamin Button fame, amongst other interesting pieces of film...
