I was thinking the same thing. Aretha & George singing together again in another life.
2 of the greatest voices ever. What a great duet!!!
Ah, George before he cut off that beautiful hair. ♥️ As a kid I didn’t really appreciate this song, and now as an adult I see the genius of it.
A great song, from a great year (1987)! A number one smash, of course. 🌟👍
Gorgeous George. RIP, Aretha and George. LEGENDS
The moment when George puts his hands on her shoulders and he looks so happy, like a 'pinch me' moment. One of the best collaborations ever.
Awe you really are an 80's 90's babe

Love your take on this. I loved this duet. I read in his book, Aretha's team approached him when he first left WHAM. He declined at first. He was about 26 and he said she was his idol and he was just too nervous. He finally came through. He didn't know how he would react not producing the track. He was so used to doing everything on his tracks. What a great move. This took Aretha back to number 1. It won the grammy for best duet in maybe 1987-88, I can't remember the exact year. George tells a funny story of how she brought a stack of ribs to eat and brought him some. He said he wasn't eating meat at this time. She sat on a stool and clean the ribs off and there was a basket half way across the room. She threw the bones in and never missed one time throwing the bone in the can. She wanted him to write and produce for him, but he felt he couldn't do her justice. I don't agree, I bet he would have come through for her. I love this one, but my fav will always be "As" with Mary J. Blige. I miss both of them. There are many great artists out there, but they are always looking for that great song, that great producer, the great music. Not George Michael, he did everything on his own, wrote, sang, produced and did most of the music for his tracks. He did it all and did it HIS way. I'm 71, I'll never see another George/Aretha in my lifetime.

I also heard him tell that story about the ribs, you are correct Karen artists like George and Aretha I don't think will ever come around again, I love George since careless whisper and still do he was a genius OMG and so gorgeous and handsome when he died I was heartbroken never has any one actors or singers made me feel that way miss him, thank God for his beautiful and wonderful music he left behind, once said he didn't think he would leave a mark but would like to leave music he's left a huge mark its like he's coming back round again x
It's Only Love by Tina Turner and Bryan Adams is another 80's duet banger.

Bryan Adams and Mel C - "When You're Gone" is a good one too. He recorded another version of the same song with Pam Anderson.
Forgive me if I am wrong but I think that was Ms Franklin's only number one in the UK. Brilliant song. Love seeing George in pretty much anything but this is a good vid. Thanks

You are correct. I read his book. It brought Aretha's career back. Only #1 in the UK forAretha. It won the grammy for best duet, I think 86-87? Not sure what year.

Lol as you say - yes we are all kidding ourselves on that we can critique the singing of these legends - even the decent singers among us can't! An absolute classic and I cannot believe they are no longer with us on this plane :( I loved them both, but George was only 23 here! What gems they both were. They just clicked so well and yes, it resulted in a classic. Thanks :)

There are very few people who can sing with Aretha and not sound soulless, but George Michael actually does a pretty bang-up job!

George said in his book, he didn't want to overtake her. He wanted it to be all about her. He just let her do her thing. But yes, he did great. She was his idol.

You would have known if you have listened to his songs before this song. He has always soulful. Good example are Careless Whisper and Everything She Wants.
In this time period George did hundreds of vocal takes to perfect each line

That's when George was young and innocent and absolutely gorgeous and handsome
I get both choked up and in a dancing mood listening to this now and watching the music video for obvious reasons but it really is one of the best songs ever recorded. Lightning in a bottle and happy we have it still even with them both gone. I hope you know that now you gotta react to George & Whitney "If I Told That" as well as George & Mary J "As."
Such a beautiful duo. Always makes me cry. THANK YOU !!

Thank you for telling us if you'd heard the song or not. On many of your videos, I often wonder if you've heard the song when you're reacting to the music video. Please react to George singing "Brother Can You Spare a Dime" live.

Let's talk about how great Narada Michael Walden is at writing, production, and drums 😎
I love this song. God I miss George Michael :(
Got to agree GEORGE MiCHEAL, is so handsome. And ARETHA, looking so hot. Wow, what a hot duo, singing a fire hot song.

I had forgotten how good this song and duet was! Two beautiful voices!
Classic jam👏👏👏👏👏
Oooh Respect with Jennifer Hudson is gonna be out soon! 😍😍😍
What I still love about this song is how George reins it in right until the end -- he doesn't really do any vocal acrobatics at all until the end, because he knows it's Aretha's show, that she should get to dominate most of it. It's a really respectful performance by a young 23-year-old man who worships the idol he's singing with.
The vocals sing for themselves
I read somewhere that A.F. Asked GM to produce her album. He declined saying that he didn’t think he could give her objective feedback. How can you tell Aretha Franklin how to do what she’s does best different to make it better?
I love this duet! Perfect.
Two Legends In GREATNESS PERIOD (:. Enough Said (:
Yay!! Another brilliant George Michael reaction. To put in perspective, this song was release post Wham! but pre-Faith album. He was only 24 years old when he recorded it and one of the very few songs that he didn’t produce. Definitely check our George Michael with Queen (LIVE) singing Somebody to Love at the Freddie Mercury Tribute. 🔥🔥🔥 He has had so many incredible collaborations and I would also highly recommend his Elton John live duet of Don’t Let the Sun Come Down on Me. To hear a whole other side that will make you melt…George Michael’s Kissing a Fool. ❤️

@@PancakeMarshmallowDude Oh yes! I remember now. I totally wished you watched the video because GM is so 😍 in it but I simply love your album reactions. When George performed Somebody to Love with Queen, he was obviously paying tribute to his close friend. What makes the performance even more amazing is that George’s true love, Anselmo, had just been diagnosed with AIDS (which is what Freddie had passed from) That night George sang with such passion for both - for Freddie AND to Anselmo. GM was not “out” yet so it was years later that he told the full story behind the performance. You really will be left speechless and there is nothing like a live GM performance in general but this one in particular is one of his greatest. After you watch that performance, I recommend you re-listen to Jesus to a Child (for your personal GM journey). It’s deeply personal about Anselmo and all of the emotions following his passing. You reacted to this song a while ago but knowing the background the song will hit different. For the channel, another beautiful GM ballad by George is A Different Corner. I strongly recommend the LIVE version on the BBC Parkinson show. The official video is great too but GM live is masterful. ❤️
Great pick -- love this song so much, definitely a great moment in time!
They are so beautiful together and somehow I tend to listen to this gem around christmas time.
What can you say that hasn’t already been said. I want to sincerely thank you for your GM reactions. It hurts me to my soul to hear the younger generation say that don’t know anything about him and have not heard any of his songs. That is just heartbreaking to me. Two other GM duets I would suggest If I Told You That with Whitney Houston and As with Mary J. Blige. I can’t think of another artist that could hold there own as George did with the powerhouse women. Of course his duet with Elton John is also legendary. Both recordings of I Knew You Were Waiting For Me and Don’t Let The Sun Go Down On Me were number 1 singles. Elton had recorded that song back in the 70’s and it placed pretty high on the charts back then. However you add George and it went straight to Number 1.
I've always said this song is like smooth cake batter being poured.
i love you Aretha

I love this duet and the video homage to what I think are Marvin Gaye and Tammi Terrell in the background along with Sonny and Cher are also great duos. They mention in the song the mountain and valley, which are the subject of the former’s “ain’t no mountain high enough” (not to be confused with Diana Ross’s later similar-themed disco hit). The Marvin and Tammi song was written, I think, by famous singer/songwriter couple Ashford and Simpson, so if you can react some time to their “solid” or “found a cure” would be great. :-)
Enjoyed your reaction! I love this music video!🙂👍

Never thought I would enjoy a “reactionary vid,” let alone comment on one too, but here I am, and thumbs up on the reaction. You got my thought wave after the chorus I think. 🙂 PS: another great duet of George’s is with Ms. Jody Watley. An album track, but should’ve been released as a single off her solo debut LP. It’s a great jam if you haven’t already reviewed it. Just sayin’ and keep reviewing. Appreciate younger generations keeping legendary music, and artists relevant for next generations to come. Keep up the great work. 🙂

Needless to say ,this song went to #1 and they won a Grammy for their duet! But Duh!!
Lots of misinformation on how this song came to be (like she asked him to write it, they never met, or this was her first 80s hit) all inaccurate. Here is MTV interview with her talking about the song, her praise for him and other thoughts from her. kzread.info/dash/bejne/hoSf1aSLer23gpc.html
