Music Copyright Cases: George Harrison "My Sweet Lord" (Bright Tunes vs Harrisongs)
Following the break up of the Beatles, the "quiet one" of the fab four, George Harrison released his 3rd solo album "All Things Must Pass". The first single "My Sweet Lord" topped the charts around the world but also brought some unwanted attention...
Allen Klein also makes an appearance in this twisty tale of alleged plagiarism and underhand dealings.

Always tops quality bro
Meh, vaguely similar songs… ridiculous court judgment. Great video, once again.
Hope you continue doing these videos. Great work!

That's the plan!
So George Harrison, part of the one of the most important bands in Rock and Roll history, with 20 #1 singles as part of the Beetles, Writer of two hits off the Beatles last album: Something and Here Comes the Sun needed to plagiarize some obscure band from the past. I don't buy that for a a second.

I don't think he copied this particular song, but not for any of the reasons you stated. George Harrison, and the rest of the Beatles, were well known for "being inspired", copying, borrowing or whatever u want to call it, from other artists. George Martin said George Harrison in particular would listen to the latest R&B songs over and over to learn the riffs and would then play them "ad nauseum" as he put it. In his testimony, Harrison said he took more than a little inspiration from "oh happy days". He also said it was possible he had subconsciously copied "hes so fine" as he knew it well. Its his honesty that hurt him in this trial. As for "an obscure band from the past" Just because you haven't heard of them, doesn't make them "obscure" they had a dozen hit records and sold millions of copies. "He's So Fine" alone sold over a million and went to number 1. Also, any copying of a track would have to be one from the past, it's impossible to copy a song from the future 🤦♂️😆
How has hip hop , rap and dj mixing ever existed!?

Timing! They happened at a time when the law changed retrospectively to accommodate changes. Like when records first came out there was no law governing what someone who purchased a copy could do with it. It took a landmark case of a record label suing a cafe (in Bristol I think...but that's off the top of my head) to create phonographic copyright...and an organisation to license the commercial use of recordings in businesses...PPL. So when samplers got invented it was a free for all for a few years while people caught up, but by the time people started getting taken to court over it there was a market for sampled based music, so the industry just adapted to allow samples to be cleared. So the short answer is money.
Fascinating thank you

So glad Klein got his come uppance. He was the cause of the Beatles split. Another bit of proof that Kanye was right.

Right about what, specifically?
Investigate Sting's stealing Paul Simon's Slip Sliding Away for Every Breath You Take. Much more obvious than this Harrison case. I thought you would mention that the lyrics of THIS SONG include "This song, there's nothing Bright about it"

There's lots of lyrical references to the case in "This Song". I could probably make a whole video breaking down the lyrics. As for the Paul Simon/Sting thing...there is definitely a story there. Doesn't really fit into this particular series as it's about actual court cases rather than just songs that sound similar/the same. Although, maybe I could do a series of the ones who got away with it? or the ones that were quietly settled out of court. I suspect there was some out of court agreement with Sting and Paul Simon as they have performed "Every Breath You Take" together a few times over the years.
If you want for this song to sound even more like He's So Fine, just listen to Billy Preston's recording. Harrison's version sounds like He' So Fine and Oh Happy Day(Edwin Hawkins Singers) mashed together, but Preston's almost has the same exact arrangement as HSF.

Interesting as Harrison produced Billy Preston's version and the Edwin Hawkins Singers are on backing vocals.

@@Traxploitation Did They Also sing backup on Harrison's version. If not, those backup singers are soundalikes.

‘My Sweet Lord’ was a far better track than ‘He’s So Fine’ and ‘Oh, Happy Day’. It stands well enough on it’s own and is one of the greatest songs of all time
I like the country version.
I adore George Harrison but this is pretty obvious. I’m sure he didn’t intend to copy He’s So Fine but it is way too similar to overlook.
Yes this is a direct rip in my opinion, but GH was a very wealthy man why nobody said this to him when it was being recorded , that’s what happens when you surrounded by bottom lickers and yes men
Allen Klein was such a turd 🤣
LOL, a three chord song. It's pretty ridiculous.

Huh? Troll-o-meter? What are you gibbering about? Lol. I know you're trolling, the youtube agortithm doesn't though...this is just engagement, and it helps the channel. 🤷♂️ so carry on, lol. Are there any other completely different songs that sound nothing alike you would care to add to the list? 🤔😆
Just barely similar, so it must be stolen!

Absolutely terrible verdict. I really felt for George as he's such an honest and open person, they used that against him.
