It's all so good. Ravi, Wah Wah , Billy Preston, Ringo just being there, & Leon . The Master of Space & Time is off the charts amazing on this. George bringing Clapton to the gig to help get him out of his heroin addiction days, and Dylan back after his motorcycle accident hibernation. This is a gem. 28 years ago I was wandering through the newly opened Experience Music Project EMP in Seattle Washington and there was a small auditorium I walked into. It was accousticaly perfect with a very large screen. I got there for the start of the film & was glued to my seat until 5 minutes after it was done. The sound was incredible & right in front of a large screen of the concert.

George Harrison - Concert For Bangladesh ---From Wikipedia - - - The Concert for Bangladesh (or Bangla Desh, as the country's name was originally spelt)[1] was a pair of benefit concerts organised by former Beatles guitarist George Harrison and Indian sitar player Ravi Shankar. The shows were held at 2:30 and 8:00 pm on Sunday, 1 August 1971, at Madison Square Garden in New York City, to raise international awareness of, and fund relief for refugees from East Pakistan, following the Bangladesh Liberation War-related genocide. The concerts were followed by a bestselling live album, a boxed three-record set, and Apple Films' concert documentary, which opened in cinemas in the spring of 1972. The event was the first-ever benefit of such a magnitude and featured a supergroup of performers that included Harrison, fellow ex-Beatle Ringo Starr, Bob Dylan, Eric Clapton, Billy Preston, Leon Russell and the band Badfinger. In addition, Shankar and Ali Akbar Khan - both of whom had ancestral roots in Bangladesh - performed an opening set of Indian classical music. The concerts were attended by a total of 40,000 people, and the initial gate receipts raised close to $250,000 for Bangladesh relief, which was administered by UNICEF. After collecting the musicians easily, Harrison found it extremely difficult to get the recording industry to release the rights for performers to share the stage, and millions of dollars raised from the album and film were tied up in IRS tax escrow accounts for years, but the concert has been recognised as a highly successful and influential humanitarian aid project, generating both awareness and considerable funds as well as providing valuable lessons and inspiration for projects that followed, such as Live Aid By 1985, through revenue raised from the Concert for Bangladesh live album and film, an estimated $12 million had been sent to Bangladesh, and sales of the live album and DVD release of the film continue to benefit the George Harrison Fund for UNICEF. Decades later, Shankar would say of the overwhelming success of the event: "In one day, the whole world knew the name of Bangladesh. One that is often left off the list is Stephen Stills. Manassas had played the Garden the night before. Stills left the stage, lights, and sound equipment in place. And kept the roadies and techs there also. All he wanted was to be a part of the show. He waited in Ringo's dressing room and was not called to the stage.

How amazing. I was looking through this special antique box filled with R+R memorabilia from the 70s. Incredible stuff I have not seen in years. Way more than I could describe here. At the very bottem I found my torn ticket half from the Concert for Bangladesh. I had saved it because the event was so special. According to the ticket the price was $5.50. I did not buy it myself, I was a guest but it's hard to believe today. I was in sec. 320 row.F seat 8 with Andy Williams sitting directly in front of me. It's a weird coincidence because I just posted a comment on this very subject yesterday. ( I think) I'm listening to the concert on my I Phone as I write this. Leon Russel is performing his wild ass confessional cover of Jumping Jack Flash. The music, the ticket, I've just traveled more than 50 years back in time. Incredible!!

Sitting at a press conference that opens the performance film, The Concert for Bangladesh, he was asked why, out of all of the crises in the world, he assembled a benefit for refugees from what was then East Pakistan. In a tone reflecting why he was dubbed "the quiet Beatle," Harrison responded simply, "Because I was asked by a friend if I'd help, that's all." That friend was legendary Indian musician Ravi Shankar. 6:09 [NPR]

@@johnurban7333 Well, I would start by saying that of all the mega concerts, it is probably the least talked about on social media. That's my impression, I haven't taken any polls! It may have something to do with it's lack of availability to modern audiences due to legal reasons, which thankfully has started to wane in recent years and have more of a presence on hosting sites. I remember trying to buy a dvd copy several years ago, and the only copies available were extremely expensive. I think that situation has also been corrected.

la naivete est un don: 'some of us are prisoners, the rest of us are guards' pour citer Zimmy qui etait la, dans le Madison Square Garden, yup, close to Pen Station.

the George Harrison album All Things Must Pass was released in 1970.... This concert for BanglaDesh was a first of its kind. Pls correct me if I'm wrong to say so... A Beatle will always do some thing first and at the right time.

If someone buy it today, you're still helping The George Harrison foundation wich is connected to UNICEF. So...

    - In the beginning it was said: "Sell everything you have and give it to the poor" - In 1971 it was said: "We give a concert and what we get, for the poor" - In 2024 it is said: "I will steal from your payroll whatever I want, a part so that the poor continue to vote for me and the rest for me and my band of thieves called the socialist party or socialdemocrat party or comunist party" As you can see, over the years the matter has been optimized, more and more is stolen from others, but no one gives of theirs voluntarily.

To J: Boy you have it wrong, this is from someone who was there. He tried to get the other 2 for the concert and they declined due to other projects. Bangladesh was going through a very severe famine and their friend Rave Shankir approached them to organize a relief project and both Harrison and Ringo immediately said yes and with other friends the concert for Bangladesh was born. One night only at Madison Square Gardens and all revenues All went to help feed the millions who were starving. Do you homework and check it out. I had 3rd seat 3rd row right near the Ilse center. It's too bad the sound track did not include the whole concert, although most of it was covered.
