Clark Terry's tone is always incredible. Love when jazz players never forget about sounding great.

Completely agree - some artists, like Barney Kessel, have great ideas but will play a little beyond themselves. I prefer each note & phrase polished like a string of pearls, even if that means simplifying the idea. Benson always has immaculate tone also.

In the “jazz” world I’ve heard people always tell the guitarist and pianist to take turns comping and not play chords at the same time. That’s such a silly absolute to me, it can be done if it’s done musically and this is a great example.
