There is a story about an old man who allegedly had travelled a lot during his life. One TV reporter has decided to make a shot about him. So the TV crew came to the old man's house. Reporter has asked: "Sir, can you tell us about your life?" Old man started: "Of course. I was born in Austro-Hungarian Empire. I studied in Czechoslovakia, then I worked in Soviet Union and now I live in Ukraine." TV reporter: "Wow, that's incredible! How did you managed to travel so much?" Old man said: "Travel? The second wave happened between the two World Wars, bringing around 9000 Ukrainians mostly from Western Ukraine. @@purplestringsmariamichelac3391 If you are interested in history, you can refer to Wikipedia entry 'Massacres of Poles in Volhynia and Eastern Galicia'. Note that I am not able to asses, how accurately it was described there - I assume that it is more or less correct. It shall be taken into consideration, that Europe was not peacefull place in previous centuries, with the darkest period during WW2, that started when Germany and russians attacked Poland within 17 days on September 1939. However Poles do know, that people are not responsible for their grand parents and their grand grand parrents' actions, unless they are still identifying with it (which Ukrainians and Germans are not). Meanwhile Ukrainians are recognizing Stephan Bandera as one of their national hero, that was fighting for independence 90 years ago. Usually they are completely not aware of the fact, that he was also fighting against Poles - it is just not included in their school history courses. On the other hand, Volhynia Massacres became very popular narrativ in Poland since russian aggresion on Ukraine in 2014. I doubt that such an intensiffication was just coincidence. It was rather part of russian internet info-war against Ukraine. Anyway, full scale russian aggression on another country made those narrative irrelevant. We are standing strong with our brothers and sisters Ukrainians because we know, who is STILL the main threat for the peace in Europe and on the word.

As a permanent resident of Ukraine, I was really looking forward to this episode. You did a great job on a complicated county. It’s great you visited, wish we would had had a borcht when you were in town though.
My mom is a choir conductor and before the war, we were planning a concert tour of Ukraine. Her singers wanted to go somewhere with a different choir tradition than western Europe. We found so many amazing musicians and friendly people who were eager to meet and hear a Danish choir. Like, I've helped my mom plan a lot of concerts, but this was next level kindness and curiosity. We both agreed that the tour is just temporarily paused, and will be picked up again the second it's sustainable for our Ukrainian hosts to have us
Ukraine and Poland becoming best friends seemed so unlikely, but as a Polish person I am so happy that it went that way and I hope it'll last! There has been so much pointless violence and conflict between us, from the times of the Commonwealth, through the 19th century and all the horrible things we did to each other in early 20th century, but all that went right out the window and I'm so proud of my fellow countrymen for how we all came together and helped the Ukrainian refugees, especially in those early weeks. My dad and I were planning to go to Ukraine in 2022, but that got cut short by the invasion. We might go this year to Lviv and the Carpathians, but definitely will be going when the war ends. Слава Україні! Hope this pointless war ends soon and that all of Ukraine will be free and safe! Героям слава!

@@umkaukr i, myself, and probably many Poles had this feeling during that febuary - deja vu. But next to us. Attack by a stronger force, from 3 sides. Many of us still have grandmas and grandpas that remember the war. And even if there was almost noone to help us - we cant let that happen again. If we can, we must help to those that need help, because its the right thing to do. Also are you even a Pole, if you dont do something that Russia will not like?

I’m Bosnian but never had the opportunity to visit either Macedonia and Ukraine sadly but always wanted to visit both.
Thanks for the video. I wanted to clarify something. 19:24 Actually surzhyk is not a mixture of Ukrainian and Russian. The term "surzhyk" is borrowed from agricultural vocabulary - it is a mixture of different grains. A mixture of wheat, oats, rye, barley, etc. Surzhyk is an everyday language in which elements of two languages are artificially combined, without observing any literary norms. So surzhyk can mean a mixture of different languages. For example, English and French, Ukrainian and Polish, etc. But a mixture of Ukrainian & Russian is more common. That's why many people say confuse those two phenomena.

The English term would be creole, then
In the friendship-section, it’d be interesting to also talk about the historically antagonistic relationship between Ukraine (or historical Ruthenians) with Poland. As recently as WW1, Ukrainian and Polish Nationalists were actually warring against each other for control over the Westernmost region of Ukraine today, surrounding Lwow.

1:07 Ukraine really does have one of my favorite flags in the world. The symbol is cool, but you can read it. It also evokes the vibe of the old rus, which ukraine was founded on the bones of. Not to mention that a blue sky over a field of wheat is simultaneously super accurate and evocative, and something straight out of a fantasy novel.

I am happy that you presented the information about Ukraine as not everybody knows the history of such a wonderful country. I am half Azerbaijani half Ukrainian myself and I would like to pay gratitude for your Ukrainian colleagues who shared such significant historical and informational moments about the Ukrainian identity . But guys, you forgot to mention Azerbaijan as a supporter of Ukraine in external relationship part. We provide free fuel for the First Aid Services vehicles since the beginning of the war, we sent lots of humanitarian aid to support civilians, and we share the same historical and cultural suffering from Russia. I love Ukraine and hope that my second home will be safe and welcoming very soon as it used to be before the war.
