I live in the Caribbean and Belize is considered part of the Caribbean nevermind it's location. It's washed by Caribbean waters. Same thing with Guyana. It's amazing many Mexicans on here don't know anything about their neighbour. Language is indeed a barrier.

That's because they're hungry pirates who at one point tried to own the whole world, but lost their feet. Some day they'll start mentioning how the USA was involved in Coup d'Etats, bombings, invasions, etc, all around the world, and the British will look tame by comparison. But for that, they first got to lose the hegemonic power first.

I was in Belize last summer. I was there for 4 nights and then took a bus to Flores, Guatemala. On the bus there was somebody speaking a different language and since I like talking with people I kindly asked him what language he was speaking. Although first I had to figure out if he spoke english or spanish because those are the only two i speak. He spoke Spanish and told me he was speaking German. We had a long conversation and he told me that he was born in Mexico and moved to Belize later on. His ancestry traced back to Canada before tracing back ti Europe yet had managed to keep German, or their specific dialect of German as their first language. Now thanks to this video I understand. It all makes sense now.

Some of my family lives in Belize and I just traveled there for the first time this year and am staying for a good part of winter. I want to say that it is one of the most beautiful countries I've ever been to. The people here are super friendly, even for central America which is already way friendlier than people in the northern U.S were I am from. I had people coming up and talking to me, and met lots of amazing people with interesting stories and lives. The food is also mind-blowing especially breakfast (good fry jacks, and beans, sausage and eggs.) Wonderful little villages, a huge respect for the natural environment (meaning primordial rainforests that go on forever, massive healthy reefs, crazy mangrove swamps and hundreds of tropical birds). Anyway what I want to say is that I love Belize and have a huge respect for it doing so well, and being so good to the world with what it has, and also that I recommend others visits the country. Just be sure you are consious of the effect foriegners can have on little communities, and try to give you money to local businesses and entrapenoures, the food will be better, and they will appreciate it.

pretty good job although its impossible to sum up the awesomeness of Belize in less that 12 mins. Must say, though, that the two men on the flag were Baymen (British Buccaneers and Africans/Creoles) who are known as the founding fathers of Belize. The lighter skinned man does not represent a Mestizo man. The mestizo do represent 60% of Belize's population, but the growth of that particular ethnic group is relatively recent due to an increase in immigration over the years. Just thought I'd add that bit.

That is exactly what I thought, I remember it was a majority Black/Creole country in the 80's, massive immigration will probably wipe out their unique culture, sad

Maxence Barré Well, one guy did the calcs and at the current rate he'll finish in roughly 7 years. 7 years is enough for a new country to form, possibly Basque or Catalonia. I wouldn't be surprised if either one becomes independent in the next few years.

  • @maxencebarre3833

Are you sure 7 years !?!?! It's pretty huge ! So yeah, It's possible to see a new country. I think the most possibles are kurdistan or greenland. I think It's not possible (too early) but occidental nations like catalonia, basque, scotland and corsica, but also quebec why not! All is possible.

Maxence Barré Greenland already is kind of a country. THey're kind of like Puerto Rico. They're self-governing have loads of autonomy. But aren't really a country. Both though do have their own sports teams like the Greenlands mens national team in association football etc., own flags, different language etc. So I still think he should do Greenland.

I've been there and his video is very accurate. I visited the mennonite town in Spanish Lookout, lots of people and they have a lot of technology, like John Deere tractors and a bit of electricity and internet. I visited a mayan community and it was so strange to see people who are very culturally mayan, speak in creole english. Lots of mestizos, near the coast tons of creole people, much of the food is influenced by them. Near Guatemala are lots of military because they mayans want to go to belize for work. Many get past security though and work there. I went to a banana plantation and it was majority Guatemalan workers. Near the border they speak a lot of spanish too and use the Guatemalan Quetzal currency. A lot of the islands off the coasts are pretty much strictly tourism now but had a fishing history. Lots of drugs and cheap booze there. It also is a very low lying country that experiences floods often and that's part of the reason they built inland belmopan. They have their own beer called the Belican and many people are very patriotic of it and will only drink that. Taiwanese people are very accepted by the country but pretty much stay there for only 5 years before using belizean citizenship to go to the USA. Incredibly interesting country!

Belize has been an independent colony since the 1860's when Brittian signed a treaty with Guatemala. Subsequently Guatemala and British forces worked jointly in clearing the border and setting up border markers. Belize became a self governing independent nation in 1981. The border markers are still there. PS it's Belikin beer.

Good summary, near the border with Guatemala I even had situations people only speaking Spanish, but that probably was because they were people from Guatemala. I actually really enjoyed a lot of the beers in Central America and the beer Belican was surprisingly good too!

The countries have a bone to pick (well sort of, it’s more like a forgotten thing until someone brings it up lol). We kinda see each other like distant cousins, my encounters have been very welcoming and there is crossover between the Garifuna population as well as German settlements that have been in Guatemala. Overall there is a lot more tied up history between Guatemala and Belize. Both countries have humble and amazing people. I recommend for all to visit both countries.

I've been in Belize spending a bit of time in Belize City which didn't always feel save but had many cool people and particularly nice musicians smoking weed all day. Belmopan was strange though, felt like a spacious suburban area with some government buildings. Would love to come back and see more ruins because they are freaking incredible!

Just found this channel and particular video ( on my country ) today . Though some pronunciations and spelling aren't correct but the facts are. Really enjoyed your presentation and im surprised how much info is in it . and yes we do draw our flag in elementary ... takes a ridiculous amount of time.
