i don't doubt this guy is a genius and that he can or has already contributed more than most people would in his particular field of work. however the fact that he looks and sounds like this is brutal because the vast majority of people upon first impressions will think he is some kind of mental cripple. when it comes to intelligent, sometimes perceived intelligence is preferable. imagine if he grew up with people recognizing his intellect and abilities, perhaps he would be even more accomplished and contribute even more to society than he has.

We all deserve peers. High iq societies are regarded from the outside as hierarchal in a way other clubs aren’t, but the core driver can be a place of inclusion for members, not exclusion of others. The gifted have to expend more energy seeking stimulation. It’s not convenient, and is a journey. Even if further blessed with good looks, athletic ability, charm, musical talent and humor, the need for intellectual parity is paramount. It’s possible to be lonely while surrounded by people.

  • @jefferyford5309

I have always found it interesting when folks complain about high IQ societies being exclusionary. Many things in this world are exclusionary that people have no problem with ... but if intelligent people wish to gather and speak among themselves ... heaven forbid! Sometimes you just have to smile and feel grateful - no matter who you are. I frequently think about how auto mechanics are so in tune with the sounds, smells, vibrations, etc. of what they experience with an incredible catalogue of automobiles lodged in detail in their memories. That is WAY beyond me! I'm just not that guy and never will be or even could be. I would never criticize them for getting together and speaking and networking among themselves in groups or at conventions. Simply put, I don't belong there - and that's okay.

Thanks for taking the time to explain your point of view. Especially on things like feeling more comfortable around certain types of people, and the importance of those people being decent. I'm unsure of the value for myself in determining my IQ, it seems the primary value would be to set expectations against myself and to potentially grant access to some groups of people (while not others, I'm definitely not a triple niner). Do you find discrepancies between people who have enormous cognitive potential, but who produce very little tangible output? E.g. smart engineers with bad work ethic, professors who produce no papers and struggle with their students, or simply highly intelligent people who somehow find themselves encumbered by seemingly banal things like balancing a budget or holding down a stable job. I hope that makes sense.

I have a gifted IQ and great social skills that i developed after high school. I wasnt picked on or bullied much but i was really lonely. Anyway, i made a point to learn how to be a social person because i wanted to be able to talk to people. I dont care if someone can't talk about my deep interests anymore. I like when people talk about their deep interests, regardless of how intelligent they are. People like you more when you listen to them. They are happy to see me when i approach people this way. When i start getting deep into the world of things I study and do people quickly get alienated from the conversatoon and i can see how fast i lose them. I also realized that because i was born decently attractive peoples first impressiom of me before they even know me is good, to sour the relationship is in my hands. People that are considered ugly or strange looking i find are often disliked at first until they show their personality and humanity. Then if they are good people they become well liked. It doesnt seem fair that people judge so quickly on looks, but it's true. Good looking people have an advantage socially over what is deemed not good looking people.

Mensa is the only high-IQ society with enough membership to matter. Other groups might have local meetings in a few areas, but Mensa is the only one with local groups anywhere with a significant population. Even so, outside of the major metro area, the groups are small. You can qualify join for a year, not renew and pick it up later. You will remain qualified thereafter.

He’s eleven but they suspect his math and science level are currently at college level or higher. I never heard of Mensa, don’t even know if I’m spelling it right. And googling it is a bit dubious. They’re setting up the test, but just trying to gather information.

Hello Jeffrey Ford, I felt touched by your emotional presentation and subscribed to hear more from you. I have been playing with the idea of getting tested just to settle the issue for myself once and for all. I was tested once as a pre-teen and once as a teenager, both times I had higher than average IQ results, it's been at least a good 35 Years since I've been tested and I understand that one's IQ can change during one's lifetime. I certainly don't consider myself particularly special in any way, I just feel sometimes that I may not be living up to my full potential. The biggest concern that keeps me from taking the next step to actually getting tested is that I'm afraid of the actual potential results. Would you recommend that I look more seriously into being tested? How does one go about getting tested?

  • @jefferyford5309

Hi Paul, Thanks for your comment and I appreciate your subscribing to my channel. I truly wouldn't be tested if the results could cause you difficulty. If you do decide to be tested I wouldn't take much stock in online tests. Perhaps you could speak with your physician and they could recommend an affordable and accurate test for you to be given. Regardless, all my best to you and I hope you'll enjoy a great future regardless of IQ - it's the heart and acts of kindness that matters most.

Hello again Jeffery Ford, Thank you for taking the time to respond, I imagine that you are a very busy person and it means that much more that you would take the time. Wanting to take the test is not a spurt of the moment thing for me, I have tried a few of the online tests which I don't put too much stock in, I test out consistently in the high 130's but I'm not at all confident in the reliability of "tests" that are obviously designed to be first and foremost for entertainment purposes. It would mean a lot to me and would make me feel good about myself if I could confirm that I have a higher IQ level and it would also explain many of my personality traits and quirks. I just have one question for you, if I may; Does IQ level necessarily equate to educational attainment and a higher degree of financial and professional success? I have read different opinions on this and would like to know the opinion on this. Thanks again and I apologize for my long winded post.

Hi Paul, On average people with high IQs do make more money but MANY don't. Educational attainment is not a sure measure of IQ. Spend time on a university campus speaking with some of the professors and you'll quickly discover that many higher degrees come mostly from memorization, time and money spent. Lots of great, intelligent professors and (sadly) lots of highly educated fools as well.

It totally depends upon the individual I'm speaking with and how well I can ascertain how best to communicate with them and also whether they are able to listen and hold focus long enough to assimilate the information. I can simplify things fairly well and communication is one of my strong suits. Still, I can't control what others are capable of understanding. That said, I find that most people are capable of understanding at levels far higher than they themselves would believe as long as it is explained in ways that are most easily accessible to them.

Hi Jeffery! When you are speaking to the "average" people can you sometimes get the feeling that you are speaking to a wall? Do you analyze all the time even if you do not want to and can read people like a book? Do you know whats up before someone is telling you? Do you often get into deep discussions with people with higher IQ:s and does it feel good? Like a drug when you are coming up with new ideas and getting new powerful insights? Its like you are really getting somewhere. When you are reading a book if you do? Do you read very quickly without really "reading" if you know what I mean? Its like you do not make anything out of texts consciously. Its already there automatically and you can play with it however you want and draw new connections. And have all the important useful information unconsciously that you can use in certain situations. Well. This is examples how I work. I dont know anything about my IQ. Sorry if I lack English but I think you can understand anyway. I hope.

I understand your comment perfectly. Yes, on almost everything. Speaking to people with higher IQs can also sometimes be like talking to a wall since so many of them suffer from cognitive dissonance just like everyone else and have the added feature of so often being right that it's difficult for them when confronted by someone who knows more and thinks clearer.

I remember I took the OLSAT in middle school and scored an SAI of 104. An SAI score of 132 is required for admission to Mensa, however, I was in a gifted program and skipped a 2 grades in math (technically, 4). According to my Stanford Achievement Test, my mathematics problem solving ability is in the 97th percentile; my spelling is 99th percentile; my word study skills is 98th percentile; and my "listening" is in the 35th percentile--the only score I received which is below average. I struggle with ADHD, which is also a gift in some ways, but still a huge detriment in others. I'm in college now and I've won 3 state competitions related to computer science and 1 nationally. I'm president of 2 clubs and I'm extremely far ahead of my peers in terms of programming ability--mostly which I credit to my ADHD hyperfocus, which is also a curse... I've failed 2 math courses. It doesn't interest me, and whenever I try to put my mind to it, I get distracted. I may not graduate college if I can't get through 4 math courses. Any advice?

Im in the same boat and i really identify with what you’ve said. I’ve chosen something I love in college, but my adhd is still my greatest struggle. I don’t know what I’m doing either but I know that what we have is a terrible thing to waste if standardized testing is any indication. Do what makes you happy and keeps you interested. I’m studying music and learning more everyday which I love. But I feel that lots of things could make me happy. I could live a lavish life, or live simply. My biggest encouragement is that there are other people like me that are living their life and making it work. It will be okay for us too. Also, take every opportunity that comes your way. Because if I’ve learned anything, it’s that trying something new is never a bad thing, and adventure will always be a better option than staying still. Also were you surprised by your sat scores? I knew I was going to do well in English and writing, but I didn’t know anyone in my class who scored in the 99th percentile like I did. I went to school with all of them my whole life, we got the same education. The gifted programs didn’t do much more for us than regular curriculum.

Its a matter of pride, and selfish ambition.. i would take a back seat, compete only to your own standard, and enjoy school/classes while you can. You can only form your mind to be more rounded, not different. More rounded = stretching past your own cognitive abilities, or whatever other attribute you have, and having a sense of ability beyond your natural capabilities. Being intelligent isnt 'smart' widsom, maturity, a lack of pride, and balance will soon set you up for a fun time in life. Enjoy life while you are still living.

Id like to add to my last encouragement bro.. There is nothing more important in life than developing a rational mind.. you can be super intellegent, but fail to connect your intelligence with real life senerios, and interactions.. Im going to just say it extremely bluntly.. You are trying to excel to achieve intimacy with with others... through beating them, and also trying to attract attention to satisfy yourself.. and may not be capable of seeing that, but its what im sensing from your question.. Which is ok.. but know, the remedy for this situation, in my personal opinion is your whole self. You see, you cant live life on your mind's terms.. humans are complex.. you have to be whole, and balance all aspects of your soul, so they work together EFFECTIVELY, rationally, and in a way that CONNECTS to the world in which you are living in. At the end of your life, who is going to praise you for being intelligent? And, if someone does, did it make you feel good? Maybe... For a minute. But you and i both know that it wasnt worth the effort put forth. Its all about humility.. bro, best advice i can give on your question is humility.. the effect being enjoyment, and utter graditude for anything you are priveledged to be learning. It goes fast bro! A shitty class to you now will be a realization someone worked so hard to hand material over to you, so you can grow as a good human being.. love is a sweet thing. A very very sweet thing, so be grateful, and partake in its essence. Hope that helps.

I'm reminded of a concern in abnormal psychology. One concern over the diagnostic system in abnormal psych is that studies have found that, once label has been imposed on a person, that person is more likely to act in ways that are in accordance with that label. This may be one of the dangers of admitting you're an alcoholic in AA. So I wonder...since the same label has been placed upon all members of a high-iq society, are the members thereby more likely to view their past experiences in a way that exaggerates their commonalities and downplays their differences? Most of the people that I've met or heard speak on the topic, and who've received the external validation of being labelled as gifted, have all said the same thing as if going down a checklist: - often bored - have a hard time relating to others - unconventional interests But the people I've known just to be smart less often say as much. I know this is anecdotal, and I myself have never been tested, but my bestfriend has a verified iq of 172. But he disavowed any label of giftedness and I've never observed him having trouble relating to others. Anyways, it's just a thought.

Jeffery, I am so glad you have found kindred spirits in the various high IQ societies. In your association with fellow members of these societies, have you noticed a high correlation between having a high IQ and having a good heart?

Hi Jim, There are some incredibly kind, caring, giving individuals in these groups that I'm truly honored to be associated with. That said, I can't truly state that I find them any superior (on average) in that regard than the general populace. There are absolutely great and dreadfully awful folks across the entire IQ spectrum with most people being somewhere in the middle - especially when you observe people in various contexts. Most folks are simply mixed bags.

@LNY I am from Somalia and I have 160+ iq; I broke the ceiling for the test. Also consider malnutrition and war torn areas, the origin of the data, and its credibility.

@@letsthink8245 Its not the ethnicity that he is talking about its the people who live in the country. The average iq is lower there because of the low literacy rates and poor education. I also doubt you have 160 iq.

Another great video Jeffery. I did take an IQ test in Nov 2015 but the scores were odd. I have them as images bellow. i.imgur.com/ttVWr5m.png i.imgur.com/nOjClGs.png I was in gifted programs because my (g) is 130 yet my FSIQ is 113. I was wondering if you know why sub scores would fluctuate like mine do?

I'm glad you enjoyed the video. Your scores are impressive overall. You're obviously noticeably more intelligent than the average person and you take the time that's necessary for yourself to ponder problems before jumping to a conclusion which can help you to have higher accuracy and can save you and others money at times. It's not terribly uncommon to have strengths in some ways and challenges in others. Majestic mountains have peaks and they also have valleys. Be glad you have those peaks (strengths) because many people score average or lower throughout.

Thank you for this Video. I will now apply to join Mensa. I have a IQ above 130 but I‘ve always followed a normal education path, even though I could have gotten my A-levels way sooner. I just wanted to fit in. But now I feel like I‘m getting less intelligent every day, because I have to adapt to my peers. I think I‘ll need to change my social Environment and what better way to do that than to join mensa? Thank you!

Wise choice. If you don't use it you will lose it gradually over time. I wish that I had never for one second compromised the best parts of myself. I'm truly grateful for you and the world around you that you will be stepping up to your authentic self!

My iq is around 150 I have one classmate with an iq of 140 who always scores higher than me in tests, at least when I don’t study. But we both want to join a Society because we are always surrounded by stupid students who don’t understand anything about how we think and what we talk about so any suggestions?

Hello Jeffery, truly your video has provided me with the catharsis I needed from rough patches lately. I'm 16 and have a high IQ myself, 150 IQ through my diagnosis for certain mental illnesses and disorders, primarily bipolar 2 and ADHD, and I agree with your sentiments that these societies provide solidarity for very clear reasons. I was wondering if you're active on other outlets, such as Quora, where I often find myself.

Jeffery Ford No problem, I'm keen to keep track of your content :) Quora is a great knowledge-sharing site, however there is a big central limit on knowledge being shared and overlapped into others from the most popular subjects people generally write on, just in case you need to know :) Take care Jeffery.
