Genesis GV60: Watch this before buying an Ioniq 5!
Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары
Jack takes a look around the new GV60, the maiden EV from Korean luxury brand, Genesis. If you’ve never heard of them, that’s understandable - they only came to the European market last year. Typically, new brands who try to encroach on the posh family car space that the German trifecta of BMW, Audi and Mercedes has dominated for decades don’t fare especially well - just ask Infiniti. But Jack suspects this new upstart may be in with a better chance of success. Check out the video to find out why.

Another great review! Loving the smooth but aggressive looks of the GV60...but...love the modern/retro of the Ioniq 5, they are making it tough lol. Not thinking of the money would probably take the GV60 if the ride and performance is as expected.
I bought an Ioniq 5 after my wife and I fell in love with it while watching your review. It’s our first new car and our first EV. We managed to get one of the Project 45 launch models and it’s an absolute joy to drive. While I like the idea of a more driver focussed car I just love the looks of the Ioniq 5. There’s just nothing else like it on the road.

@@DS-pk4eh it’s very quiet and comfortable. It took a while to get used to the fact that it’s so quiet. It’s all too easy to go faster than you meant to, so I really appreciate the HUD as it’s a fairly constant reminder. The ride is definitely not sporty although it’s 0-60 launch is pretty addictive. I’ve heard reviews suggest that it’s wallowy around corners but that’s not been my experience. It is a big and heavy car though so don’t expect to chuck it around corners at high speed. It’s an excellent family car. Plenty of space for rear facing car seats in the back and/or grandparents, a reasonable boot size and when you’re on your own it will embarrass most other cars at the traffic light Gran prix, if that’s your sort of thing. Yes we got the Project 45 edition that has the solar panel roof, pop-out handles, electric rear seats and the rear privacy blinds.

I’m still hoping but in our country the prices are still silly and when subsidies came (€2000 euro subsidies for second hands) the prices rose with €2000, which makes them even more expensive because those subsidies are gone within a few weeks after new year (fixed amount so high rush in January).

I think of the 3 the ioniq 5 still looks the most amazing. It's the most amazing blend of modern but retro, daring outer design, roomy interior. I think genesis looks very clean in contrast. I think the 21 inch wheels is a sad feature. I would eventually change them to 19 or 18 inch wheels in time for better comfort which ruins the overal design profile and an ovetsized wheelarch. For now it looks cool, but when people want to change tires the car will look ugly.
@logicalChimp

Good point about the wheels... but regarding the Ioniq 5 - I agree it's an amazing blend of modern and retro, but I can't help but wonder how quickly it will age / start to look dated... whilst this Genesis design is both clean, and potentially more timeless...
@Lifecoach7Ra

I think on my basic EV6 AWD with all in expect seat ventilation, sunroof and Meridian sound because of our Gordon Setter, the 19“ for summer and winter with the black wheel arches and snow white pearl body color are just perfect. The summer wheels are the standard aero design and my Kia partner has choosen marvelous black winter wheels looking even better!❤😎🇨🇭
I just returned from the Fully Charged show where I got to sit in both the Hyundai and the Kia. What an eye opener? I also sat in the Audi and VW offerings and surprised myself with realising just how much more pleasant the Korean offerings are. Choosing between the EV6 and Ionniq 5 would not be easy as there are details on both which I like... a lot. Adding the Genesis GV60 to the mix makes things a bit more complicated but, based on this video review, I suspect I might be placing an order for the Genesis GV60 when it comes available.
That is a damn fine-looking vehicle. Great review, Jack!
I think I like the EV6 most of all. Seems to be the best value

Yeah tbh I agree with that Out of the 3 definitely my fave looking from the back reminding me of the DBX and the generally sporty design to it. Probably followed by the Genesis as I’m not a huge fan of the Ioniq 5 to ‘retro’ like styling of it also the reason why I hate the Honda E the Ioniq gets away with it more though but still not amazing. Also i feel it seems worth the slightly higher price overall as it’s better speeded overall in comparison to th Hyundai and the GV60 isn’t that comparable as it isn’t the same price or premium value. Also as proven in Carwows range test it is far superior to the Hyundai and probably will be better then the GV60 as the most range you get out of its batteries is 280ish whereas the Kia EV6 is 300+ (I’m writing this late so I don’t remember everything of the top of my head lol) So overall the EV6 is most certainly the superior of the 3 Korean Electrics

Great video and this looks like another very impressive Korean EV. I agree with your point at the end about the biggest rival potentially being the EV6 and Ioniq 5. I'll be very interested to see the rest of the Genesis models being converted to the EGMP platform, particularly the G70 and G80, which I reckon could be big sellers for them in Europe and North America
I'm a Korean. I already signed a contract with the gv60. But because of semiconductor problems, the car dealer said you will have to wait more than a year. ㅠㅠ
In the past 5 years Hyundai / Kia / Genesis have been knocking it out of the park in the style department lately. Glad to see the trend continues with the EVs. Their styling is seriously making me consider moving away from my Mercedes-Benz.
If I had to choose... wait, I already did, and I went for the Ioniq 5 and I don't regret it! I also think it's the best looking one.
Great video like always.
Picked up my gv60 performance 2 weeks ago here in Australia. Matt white exterior with the blue interior. Very cool, very refined, and very fast!
Every time I see a review of this guy I wanna buy the car! Super great car and great presentation!
Another great video Jack. This right here just has "fún" written all over it. For what it seeks to be its brilliant and I'd take this over the other two without a second thought. This is the type of pleasantly different yet suitably emotive kind of design one wants to see from car makers - the fact that its an eV is just icing on the cake. Really hope its as well put together and drives as good as it looks.
This does look really good. Those wheels in particular are great. I look forward to seeing the full review.
I’ve just returned from Fully Charged Live UK 2022 Farnborough. What a great show - and seeing some of these cars in the flesh can be so different to just watching the videos. I got to test drive the Ioniq 5 and EV6 back to back - and that claim of a sportier drive for the EV6 must just be at the limits - I couldn’t tell them apart on the main roads ( bumpy sections, dual carriage way and some bendy bits). Got to sit in the GV60 and the luxuriousness of the interior is mind blowing it doesn’t come over in the video - it’s the touch and feel. And the infotainment system although the same hardware two 12.3” screens (curved like the KIA) runs a more attractive modern interface. I’ve got an KIA EV6 GT line AWD w/ heat pump on order ( delivery delayed twice now as it seems in the situation in the industry at the moment) but I’ve doubled down and placed an express of interest in the GV60 Sport ( mid range - will need to lower my performance spec and even then will be pushing the budget). But that extra refinement for road trips will be glorious. It’s seriously an interior which makes you go “wow!”. The interior space is still very good - Jack is a very tall lad! What the Hyundai group has given us is a great selection of new generation 800v architecture cars (Ioniq 5, EV6, GV60) for various tastes and budgets- what an exciting time to be shopping for an EV!
Great review, Jack - you really are knocking it out of the park on this channel, fella...! 😎 One 'slight' omission, I noticed... You didn't mention the physical HVAC controls... whoop... whoop... bonus points for the GV60, for sure 😉

Absolutely love it as the design is fantastic especially in that colour
I just love that colour! The car looks great too. Can’t wait until the driving review. ………..bring it on. Oh when’s it available?
Great presentation of this beauty. I have to say the Hyundai brand including Kia and Genesis, really is on fire. What an impressive development in just a few years. The interior of this, and all other Genesis cars, is gorgeous looking. With real buttons and knobs, thank you. It is funny that these buttons seems to add a premium quality to the car
Appreciated Jack’s reference to the group Genesis at the start by paraphrasing the lyrics of the song “I know what I like (in your wardrobe)”

I love the colour of your GV60 (having a lime green C-HR currently). From your review, the GV60 looks really interesting both in styling, features and potential driving fun. I've test driven the EV6 which is a beautiful car that drives well but is quite big (I live on my own with no family).I have yet to see the Ioniq 5 in the metal but intend to give that a test drive too.

I’m weird. I own an Ioniq 5 P45 and love that colour you’re presenting. Off to Specsavers. The design element in the C pillar is supposed to represent a volt….. Performance version looks interesting, but Hyundai are putting the 320kW motors in the Ioniq 5 N being released later this year, I fancy that. You’ve got me hooked Jack, always look at your video first on launch release day.

Thanks for the review and I like the way you did it the presenter is top notch Genesis does have the opportunity to gain some ground in Europe they need to build the customer base and get noticed they build some really good cars honestly
I was charging my e-tron in Uppsala (Sweden) at an Ionity charger and there were a bunch of German plated cars sat next to me. One was an ev-6, but 2 others were mules. One had a sheet over it and the other just had weird plastic bits stuck to the outside. There was an id3 and a Model X alongside them. There was probably a team of 10 Korean engineers and some English and German chaps in tow - all just waiting for their fleet of cars to charge. Turns out this was the car they were testing! They're using the low temps/winter to test range and battery degradation for their designs. The engineers were super cool to chat with and their approach to how consumers use and view these cars was really smart. I will probably be switching to one of these brands after the e-tron!
Jack is hilarious- love his reviews!

Great review again Jack. Got much better idea of it than with other reviews and more entertaining too. I love all the eGMP cars. Would probably go for this one out of choice, then Ev6 then Ioniq. While the Ioniq looks more out there i didn’t love the feel of sitting in it at the FullyCharged show. Wouldn’t go for the Genesis in that colour. It’s great to look at now but to actually own one in that colour would be annoying over time.

I like this GV60, it's a nice looking car. I also really like the EV6 so it's a bit of a toss-up between the two. The Ionic 5 is definitely the least of the 3 but it's still a fantastic car as well. Agreed! The Maxxus eDeliver 3 is a bit small, the 9 is too expensive, the eVivaro is not bad but lacks some cabin finesse. And no doubt if we ever see the VW Buzz van we shall need a second mortgage. There is a sizeable market out there for families and those into outdoor activities, surfing, mountain-biking etc who need the space to move the kids/toys without range anxiety. I think it may be that the battery technology is just not there yet to sustain vehicles of this size over longer distances. When we do get what we are after, it will be great to kiss almost all maintenance costs goodbye. I currently run a BMW I3 for commuting and a diesel VW Campervan for spare time activities. The I3 has saved me thousands a year in fuel charges, but I would be delighted to be able to say goodbye to diesel forever. The smallest maintenance job on the van costs enough to run the electric for months......
In Korea you get those side mirrors w camera. Supposedly it's coming to North America on the EV6 and IONIQ 5 down the line. Most likely an option though.
