    It might sound odd coming from someone who's been a Kiss fan for over 40 years, but what I admire Gene for is that he wasn't one of these people that seem to have been born talented, no stand out child with an amazing musical ability, but he wanted to be a rock star and made it happen. He doesn't have the best voice, nor is he a virtuoso on guitar, but he took what he had and achieved his goal.

  • @brianpeterson7557

    @brianpeterson7557

    3 жыл бұрын

    @@Dave-Rough-Diamond-Dunn I agree but it didn't take gene and kiss to make it big. They started kiss in 72 and by 75 they were huge and had made it only three years it took them. They're way many bands and artists who never had that opportunity and struggled for way longer when they shouldn't have. You gotta remember the 70s was a way different time then nowadays. Way different cultures and way different people and their music tastes. You honestly think if Kiss came out as a new band they'd make it today? I sincerely wouldn't think so. He was lucky he was around at a time when people weren't so divided when it came to music. The 70s are long gone unfortunately but it's the truth. Also looks have a lot to do with making it in the music business more than talent and that's been true for a very long time. I'm a guitar player and drummer and I was told by people that they thought I was talented but my looks weren't great and that's what sells. Just telling you what they said to me man. That's why gene and alot of musicians made it because of looks just as well as the music honestly. They're a lot of great bands that should've made it big in my eyes but didn't and like I said gene was in the right place at the right time and some people like me are not privileged enough to get that position that's the cold hard truth and I've accepted it. Some people dont want to and they live in a fantasy world and believe their lies. Someone has got to tell them the truth even if they dont want to hear it.

    @@WillieSurvive1 Yeah, I don't hate Kiss or Gene Simmons, I like their music and appreciate their legacy they have. But they're not anywhere near 'one of the most influential rock bands in history'. Couldn't give a fuck about Madison Square Garden or any of that shit, like I said, dick heads like Justin Bieber do stuff like that, even though he is talentless. Just proves there's a lot of morons on this planet. Some of the best shows I've ever been to have been in clubs with an attendance of only a few hundred and some of the best rock music to ever emerge from the 60's,70's and 80's can barely be found now on record. Being popular doesn't mean they automatically make quality music, couldn't care less about big numbers or what the masses think. And Garth Brooks is a no one to me, please don't act like he is someone I'm supposed to give a fuck about.. Clearly we have two different kinds of taste and opinions on music, though I will say that Van Halen are great.

    I'm not always a fan of Gene Simmons, but he literally even to an extent insulted Dr Phil's audience when he said "I saw people smirking at you and heard them laughing when you said you wanted to be Elvis and the best thing ever." He literally risked insulting Dr Phil's audience because he knew this guy wanted to make it, and he would do anything it takes, and Gene was trying to help him and support him. Even when he said "Get a job." He was trying to get him to be the biggest thing ever. I don't always like Gene, but he said and did everything right here.

    Everybody has called Gene Simmons a douchbag because they think he comes across like an arrogant person, his ethos is work hard and you will reap the rewards. He certainly has done this since before he was in KISS. His CV is impressive, worked at Vogue magazine, was a teacher and edited his own comic,so he knows what he is talking about. He deserves respect,he has earned it through his hard work.

    His mother is letting him bleed her . There is a magical word " NO " . My mother used it and I built my own recording studio without having to take from my mother . But they have allowed this to happen . When we had our child , I got out of the National Guard and I quit the bands and after my son graduated from college , i went back to music . Take care of business !

    Never was really a huge KISS fan growing up, but I've always liked some of the band's songs and watching those performances on TV. I even remember watching "the demon" sticking out his tongue during a live performance on some show back in the late-1970s when I was little. Besides my earliest memories of Deborah Harry [Blondie] and Rod Stewart performancing on television prior to MTV's existence, I remember Gene Simmons doing his thing. I've always liked Gene (just like Paul Stanley, Ace Frehley, etc. in the band for their personalities) and also respected him for what he always had to say and say to the point. Some call him a narcissist and such, but I don't see it that way. He is an intelligent and confident individual who also does have his flaws of course like any other human, but I'd rather listen to Gene Simmons on any given day than most of those ridiculous talking heads out there in TV land or on the internet. Can't deny that there's something about Gene that draws your attention. That is a quality he has.

    As a professional musician, I can confirm that you can do both: chase the music dream and have that "apple pie, white picket fence" life. Apple Pie White Picket Fence Life I work a full time career in health care and support my wife, our bills, housing needs, food, car, insurances, and anything extra. I also had a son (sadly passed away last year) whom I was also financially ready to support. Music Life I practice with my band once a week, play a show or two every month or two depending on show offers. I also practice in my spare time for around an hour a day. I have also been on tour, recorded albums, sit in for other locals, been recognized locally for my music, and have had an offer to play at Carnegie Hall. To me, this is enough for me to be satisfied musically. I have also been pushing my music for as long as I have been playing (18 years). I should mention to I bought almost all my equipment myself ($15K-$20K worth) minus a couple of gifts from family here and there. I think when this guy realizes that there is a happy medium thats satisfying, he can make it work just like I have.
