Gender, War and Peace | Madeleine Reese | TEDxLausanne

In 1945 there was dream, one in which future generations would be spared the scourge of war and there would be peace. Laws have been put in place to regulate our conduct to protect human rights and to bring that peace. We have created systems to oversee their implementation and to hold accountable those who transgress. But the dream still seems out of our reach.
In this talk, Madeleine Rees examines gender and how the intersection of political economy, militarism and the multi lateral system, have undermined the promise of the Charter and Human Rights, and explores what we must do to reclaim it.

Bravo! Thank You Madeleine Rees for such an important and powerful talk. I have been examining groups for peace and workers of Peace ... You say something most do not ... you tell people where to start, "school boards etc..." and this is essential for people to know where they can start BUT even what you say is so minimal (about where to start). What is required is for someone to have some specific groups who are dedicated to having a list of actual groups or places or steps one can take to begin to bring together all of those who want peace (and while some insist this must be nonviolent actions there are still many Peace groups who are willing to use violence) ... not enough is said about this division between those who want Peace but it needs to be taken on ... those who want peace have to stand and admit they are not working effectively AND THEN go on to the next step of doing something different and getting others involved (not just getting others money ... but getting people to stand together strong (and including women and including men. I have joined "World Beyond War" recently but have tried to communicate directly with anyone there and no one has responded ... so sad I found a group that sounded like it was really going to do something and yet they do nothing to retain or encourage a person attempting direct contact ... I wonder how often this is going on in many Peace groups. Perhaps you can look around and find Peace groups looking for people who want to do something who are truly receptive to direct contact? I believe we can have a alternative to military and end war. Love and Peace to All

War will not end as long as there is more than on religion, race, or government in this world. If you are not willing to fight for your own than you deserve to be conquered.
