Actually in bringing up Eddie Van Halen, Nuno (the guitarist) said this solo is a tribute to him - Especially right at the start of the solo with the fast picking it sounds exactly like something EVH would play. Nuno, as my Dad says, is like EVH turned up to 11, he got a lot of his influence from him and his playing style.

This song brings back what a 80s guitar meant to be.

The issue with most people...is they only know Extreme for More Than Words. They are one of the most versatile rock bands that has ever existed. Do yourself a favour and watch them at the Freddie Mercury tribute convert. This line up is the same as when they first started, save for the drummer who joined them post Mike Mangini on the waiting for the punchline album. The original drummer Paul Geary went on to a very big career as a manager. Nuno is considered one of the greatest rock guitarists to have ever graced the stage...was a massive friend of EVH. You really need to look into their back catalogue. Nuno is a god.

More than words is an exceptional song. There are few songs that are timeless. Listen to it in 2023, it doesn’t sound like it is from 1990. The Beatles, the Rolling Stones, the doors, the beach boys pulled it off too. Fuckin’ genius

I love that you keep saying that it sounds so much like STP and the lead singer sounds like Scott. Its the reverse STP got inspiration from Extreme.

Brings me back to my high school days in the 80s...great heavy rock...love it!

The thing with Nuno, is that when he emerged (1989) - he literally rang rings around every other guitar player on earth - (imagine frank Zappa’s son wanting to release a solo album) - Nuno produced it, rescued it, and as Dweezil said “”stopped it being shit”

Sometimes replies are annoying. But, when you’re basically spreading the truth, you want to Say “fuck you mother fuckers” if watching Nuno in the “More than Words” video doesn’t convince you that war, evil, and being a cunt isn’t the absolute worst thing ever. That makes me sad

Quite a few bands touring right now. I’m in Australia and we have Extreme with Living Color, then matchbox 20 with the goo goo dolls and I found out today, we have Def Leppard with Motley Crew. Seen MB20 about 20 years ago but haven’t seen the rest so I’m soooo looking forward to these gigs 😊

I presume you thought the ballad "More than words" was boring - big mistake not checking out the album it was on, though. Pornograffitti; It has blistering guitar-work on it from start to finish.

All the band members are original, they haven't put out anything in 15 years they were all out doing other projects but they never officially broke up. Gary was actually the lead singer for Van Halen for one album, and this song was a tribute to Eddie

Not fully original in that this is their second replacement drummer since Pornograffitti (and by original I mean the first album lineup, if you go back far enough, even Pat and Nuno aren’t original, and they had some other folks who were briefly members of a live version of the band but don’t appear on any recordings) but the rest of the band are the same as they were in 1991.

Check out extreme rest in peace that's from three sides to every story that's from the back in their hay day you will like it. You missed out on a good generation of music if you only heard more than words

You didn't mention Steve Vai in your list of guitarists. It's not new, but he not too long ago released his "Teeth Of The Hydra" video. You might want to check that one out. As for Nuno, you get so much classical influence in his playing. It is what sets him apart from a lot of the others in today's guitarists.

Extreme was doing this before STP. STP borrowed from Extreme.

I’ve watched many reactions to this song…I enjoyed yours. Definitely nailed what I think they were going for. A tribute to all that the kids are missing in rock these days. You should listen to their older stuff…Pornografiti and Three Sides To Every Story. Most songs have a Nuno solo. Horns!
