Gen 2 Coyote is a semi closed deck, port injection with 11mm head bolts, while the Gen 3 is a open deck block, port and direct injection with 12mm head bolts. Being semi closed, the Gen 2 block is stronger for boost, the Gen 3 can run a higher compression since it has better cooling from the open deck design and larger damper for vibrations.

I’ve had my 2018 for almost 3 years w/bolt ons and e85. No tick or oil consumption. It’s unfortunate for whoever had the issues but it’s really an amazing motor.

Just got my 2019 in August and I already had to take it to the dealer. Been in the dealer since Dec 21 I’m just getting it back Monday. My advice is if u got the 2018-19 GT make sure you get VCT Solenoid checked out they come faulty in a lot of those cars. My issue was my car would turn off at a stop or red light it would also though am positioning code and shake from what I thought was the exhaust. But after the dealership ran a computer on my car overnight and changed almost all the parts in the engine that was the issue with mine.

I have a gen2 2017 GT PP manual Grabber Blue. After hearing about the infamous tick and oil consumption of the Gen 3, I'll stick with my N/A Stang. So far no issues other than the the issue with the IRMC valves on the manifold breaking. The last addition of the Manifold supposedly fix the issue. FMC should have done a recall on this obvious problem.

Does direct injection require a different ECU? For the cyllinder head flow numbers I have 289cfm@.500" as my coyote flow numbers and cannot find gen 3 specific flow numbers, does anyone have them? So he said the differences: gen3=460hp/420tq and gen2=435hp/400tq 1. Direct injection on the gen3 vs port injection on the gen2 2. 12:1 cr vs 11:1 cr on the gen2 3. higher flowing heads and intake manifold

I have a 2017 mustang GT M/T obviously with the Gen 2 motor in to and my engine blew up today and I need a new engine. Was thinking about buying the Gen 3 motor as the new one. Do you know exactly what I need for the swap or should it just be a plug and play becuz both Gen 2 and Gen 3 motors are near identical? Like do I need to buy a different harness to make it fit, a new PCM, etc.?
