Awesome topic! I didn’t know gem dragons even had so much lore built in. I love the neutrality aspect as I never really understood the point of the chromatic/metallic division. That idea of a gem dragon raising a white dragon to be good is really inspiring too. Wish I thought of it when I was making my Icespire Peak videos!

Raising them to be good isn't very neutral of them. They need to steal silver dragon wyrmlings and raise them to be evil to balance the scales.

Maybe WotC is planning an expansion with psionic classes and subclasses, since there's already a bunch of UA about it. I'd love to see gem dragons make a return if that were to happen.

Cool to see some talk on these dragons since I think they are slowly coming into 5e with the Sapphire dragon has a stat block and mini now.

After being introduced to the idea of eldenser, I simply must make a hexblade warlock.

This was so cool! My gosh, there is a cornucopia of story ideas in this video! The Ruby Palace itself inspires its own story ideas

Behold my dragonborn. He is an artificer, and his name is pneumonoultramicroscopicsilicovolcanoconiosis.

Now I want to do. A side quest where the town reports a black dragon nearby. As the party approaches it in battle, it let's out a fire breath attack. Then I bask in the confusion that's going on.

Gem dragons are so weird. Glad you tackled this topic.

Primary dragon types are gemstone, precious metallics, ferrous metallics, primary chromatics, secondary chromatics (this one's up in the air but it's heavily implied tiamat had a sibling that inbodied brown, purple, yellow, and gray), and asian dragons

Ferrous Dragons were meant to be the “Lawful” side of dragon kind. There was also going to be a “Chaotic” kind of dragons but I forgot what the theme was for them.

Love the steel dragon use them a few times in my game and its fun when veteran players didn't know they were working for a steel dragon. and their facer expression, when they do find out, is priceless. I can still surprise the players after all those years.

Awesome video, inspired so many things in my own setting :)

The Ruby Palace is Gold, but looks red at night because of two things. 1: Torril's Atmosphere, and 2: The sun. See, in FR, the sun is not like ours. It is literally a giant ball of fire you can walk on if you have the correct protections. It is inhabited by Fire elementals and the like. So the light it casts only appears white at a certain distance away from the planet. Add to that the fact that the Ruby palace actually orbits bunch closer to Torril than the actual Lunar Bodies and you have the perfect recipe for gold, to look red from the ground. (reloads the head cannon)

Well, there aren't a lot of middle east God-like creatures that have dragon like traits, and eastern names, as well as most western, are already either already used, or not neutral enough to sound like a being indifferent to things. I had a ame idea for him though.

Many, many, many moons ago (like 500 or so, seriously), I came up with the name "Keämit", being alphabetically halfway between "Bahamut" and "Tiamat".

Was not expecting to see a buddyfight card used as an example

My favorite dragon type is the Quicksilver dragon, but they are rarely ever talked about.

Currently thinking of running a Moonshae campaign, (not really up to the planning stage yet, but I have some ideas), and listening to those dragons, "oooh cool I have to think about adding one in that campaign I wonder who will fit", and you're like "Raulothim is a known Faerunian emerald dragon, he lived around Rauthym, which is one of the larger islands north of the Moonshae Isles" Me: *jumps in joy* XD

Gold can have a reddish hue btw. Pure Gold is a reddish yellow. the more "white" or darker "red" it is, the less pure it is.

@@Jorphdan im really hoping they make a comeback (cue the LL Cool J music) the Sapphire dragon they released as part of that gem dice set is pretty nice. Although i hope psionics gets a bit better than just copying spells.

I was dming About 3 years ago 3.5 my party was mineing in the mountains and on my encounter list i had a crystal dragon as a joke or a hook to get my group in the mine they roll find a gem mine cut open the wall right into the crystal dragon lair .

Hopefully with psionic subclasses apparently being present in the new book, we'll see more official gem dragon stats in a 2021 release.

In the Forgotten Realms Novella "War In Tethyr" there was a one of a kind RUBY dragon as a sub plot. She was found by the hero as a human girl but turned out to be the child of a Amethyst dragon who used magic to create a new kind of dragon. Does anyone have any idea what happened to her?

Wouldnt a gem dragon be more easily confused with metallic dragons, I mean they seem shinier compared to the chromatics

i dont like gem dragons but maybe we can get more dragons types that have been influenced by different planes. maybe even a dragon who got influenced by the far realm.

In older versions they were created by the Neutral gods.

Well tiamat and bahamut have 5 dragons each... Guess I have to kill one of mine :/

What is it with dragons and personal councils. Also he’s just a rip off version of bahamut basically. They both have flying castles that use basically unthinkable magic. They both represent a valuable resource.
