Great way to explain this process! My lab follow the same procedure too and I wish I knew this before going in.

Loved to see this video and the insides and the workings of a lab! Looking forward to seeing more similar stuff. Also hoping to do research in a lab in the future ;)

This is super helpful. If only you told me where to order all the shit I'd be set.

How do you know what primer and cocktails to use?

As I have never worked in a lab, this might be a stupid question, but it seems like genotyping this way is a complicated and long process. What is the reason it is done like this and not e.g. by sequencing or using something like an ELISA test?

In my lab, we use electrophoresis when we have a specific gene in mind for example, checking if offspring inherited the gene. Sequencing is usually too much information and something like ELISA tests for the presence of proteins (the output of DNA) not the DNA the itself so the 3ish hours it take to genotype and get a clear yes or no answer is actually quite quick in lab time!

But how is the primer and other cocktails made?

good question, I didn't have to make a new batch of primers for this round and not knowing if my first video would get any views I didn't want to waste anything
