I chose to save JD. From a narrative perspective, Del's death feels more cohesive. If you compare the two scenerios, the Del death seems more finalized. At least for me it is.

Respectfully disagree. Del's character evolved more than JD's in my opinion. Also, I think Kate would have saved the friend who never left her side.

Personally i saved jd even though i like del more. It makes more sense considering the emotional impact it has on the player since you were with him for most of the game and gives more of a reason for JD to have a “Redemption” and live up to his familys name.

@@Bloodcell2001 Del has a relationship with JD and kait, that's about it, and maybe Baird. sure him and Fazi start to get buddy-buddy (hence "who is saving who") but that has only gone on for half an act. Del seems like he has them but that is cause we play as Kait and build this bond since he our only company and battle buddy. JD has been making way more connections with major characters since his birth. Neither of them gave an emotional impact to me personally but sometimes death is a pathway to Redemption. they really all replied with a "Man that sucks" attitude besides JD and Kait, Marcus just had a 'i know the feeling boy'. Honestly i think making it a choice was stupid, should killed JD and ended the Fenix line. sorry for the long message just wanted to hit some key points

Marcus's Father died in 3 due to himself having whatever immulsion exposure because of self testing. Anya stroud or Anya Fenix died in 4 but we come to know in gears 5 because of the project fertility. I am NOT going to put marcus through losing his only son even if he was a brash boy who made mistakes. Everyone makes mistakes. Also imean... I absolutely love del but theres no history besides 4 and 5. Which well... ugh it was still heart wretching to see him die because of the relationship he had with Fiaz.

I was so sorry for Del, but I'm a player since Gears of War 1 and I saw Marcus lose his father, his best friend and his wife, I couldn't kill his son with my hands.

I saved JD, thinking del would get kidnapped or something. JD can team up with marcus and they’ll save him..ohhh, shit. Well i still think JD is the better imo canon choice. Del is a nice guy and all but..thats just it, hes not interesting. JD has family issues, now scarred for his mistakes, lost his best friend, bringing him closer to his dad. Its the better choice, still sucks though lol

Saved JD. He has more directions to go as a character, while Del doesn't really. But at the end of the day this shouldn't have been a choice. This is Kait's story, nor ours, this isn't Mass Effect or Dragon Age or Witcher, it's Gears of War.

@@exithumanity7224 I feel the same way. The cutscenes felt like they were fleshed out and almost designed around Del's death. JD looking off into the distance and Marcus coming over to comfort him made more sense, just from a thematic and narrative sense. JD and Marcus have rarely seen eye-to-eye, but now JD understands what Marcus went through. Del's death provides character advancement for both JD and Marcus.

I saved Del because I think it just suited the story better. You spend most of the game as Del and Kait so it made sen for me to save him. That said, Marcus repeatedly saying ‘no’ while walking backwards and refusing to take the cogs was goddamn heartbreaking!

Nah men I wasn’t gonna made my boy Marcus suffer another loss. He became my legend among all of this years! Besides now JD it’s going to have an enormous breakthrough. What a game... What a saga...

I just wonder how developers are gonna make your side of the story I started playing gears as a little boy still the 1st one is my favorite I saved JD not only because it’s Marcus son but Marcus was the only one to help her truly find herself in the game. Edit: Doms death was way more upsetting

The thing i liked the most about Don's death (in a storytelling point of view) is that it doesn't happen at the end of the story, so the characters have a lot of interaction afterwards and the player has time to mourn.

Fucking hell man that cut scene when Marcus reacts to JD dying was too heart breaking... fucking Gears of War out of all games brought me to tears, that was some incredible voice delivery by John Dimaggio I had to save JD because Marcus has lost enough already, and seeing his face when learns of his son's death made me glad I saved JD. Poor Del though I really thought he was going to be Kait's love interest, but that's what makes this choice so hard. Do you save the man who spent Kait's whole journey with her and supported her no matter what, or do you save only family member of legendary hero who's lost almost everyone dear to him? Fuck man the wait for Gears of War 6 is going to be painful.

Dom passing was more heartbreaking for me ! It was the first time I seen Marcus cry! And got emotional He has never cry not even for his own sons death! I think doms death impact Marcus way more than anything that was like he's blood brother !

I played the entire campaign with my brother. He played as del through the entire thing so I just instinctively chose to save del over JD. and damn that ending was heartbreaking. I played with Marcus for gears 1-4 and seeing him lose jd was just awful.

I saved del thinking JD would get captured and we’d save him. Boy was I wrong. Honestly, the ending ended on a great note but I wish we didn’t have to lose JD or Del

I thought I chose correctly when I picked Del but then immediately thought of Marcus and how much he's been through. I betrayed myself.

Honestly I feel like either one you choose will somehow be bought back in the next game. Because if you notice as the ground collapses del or jd fall's in the ground and is presumably dead. But I think the new queen will probably bring them back one way or another and use them as leverage and emotional gain over the others🤔.

I chose Del and I feel SO bad now.. Marcus lost EVERYTHING .. I had chills and tears... His wife,best friend,and son?! This story is heartstomping. If you save jd, it's a bummer but you see the embrace of father and son-also a dark bond of losing best friends Dom,and Del. Saving JD is more cliche and paletteable...but if you want to experience a taste of what Marcus has..choose Del. Not for the faint of heart

I would love to see both endings for gears 6 with del maybe have players pick there own cannon ending put it this way JD is so scarred by the events that he will never be the same del has no family because he was fostered

I'm going to save Del he was by my side 99% of the beginning of this game and JD switched up on us. I don't like that they forced us to do this decision I would've preferred if they made it for us choosing to kill on or the other was a dick move.

The game makes you feel guilty for killing JD and makes you feel guilty for killing Del. You choose differently and get the same outcome. Such a lazy way to end a character

Marcus shows the 3 stages of grief fucking sad but perfect in everyday possible The first no he said was avoidance he didn't want to belive it Then the 2nd lots of no no no was confrontation when was he walking away from the kait showing him the tags The last part was accommodation accepting JD fates with the cog tags I'm hand oh my god that's definitely Upsetting as hell for any father who has lost there son

I saved Del... he’s under rated and I played with JD for a whole game and I liked the characters developed meant more in this one... it’s just I couldn’t see del dying sense he’s always on the best reason side.. he’s to energetic and Marcus did loose and lot of friends... like Dom, Ti, Anya, and the bold dude I forgot his name... his dad, and most of the Carmine’s... now that I think of it I should’ve saved JD.... ITTTTSSSS SOOOOO HARD, FUCK THIS GAME, IM HAVING A MENTAL BREAK DOWN

You summarized my thought. I went with saving Del, my first and only playthrough, I regret it and I think the logical option is saving JD. Marcus is THE main of all Gear's game, let him have some rest from the trauma.

I chose del, I really liked him and I kinda felt bad at the same time when Marcus found out that jd died

I believe that saving JD and letting Del die is the true outcome of the story. It makes sense because JD gets a shot at redemption and learning to fight for a true friend.

He saved her life from Reyna's grips earlier in the game. People are choosing to have JD live as they would choose to have Dom live if it were up to them even though JD dodged death enough times in the game already.

I really couldn't let JD die. Been with marcus whole life man. He used to be my main game hero

I feel really sorry for Marcus, but in the end I saved Del. Because when you (as Kait) flipped out and left, out of the whole group he is the friend that didn't let you go alone.

Man feel sorry for jack then two was connected, we lost two good heroes...

tbh its kinda significant when del dies bc he is important but marcus knows that look jd gave him bc its the exact way marcus looked in gears 3 when dom died. Honestly I just feel like JD should live for gears 6. He should takeover as the main character bc it makes since fot him being marcus son. I like del but hopefully JD lives in gears 6. I personally saved JD even though I loved Del as a character. It was a REALLY tough choice to make, but I chose JD as to not make Marcus suffer anymore close deaths in his lifetime. He's lost so many to War, from Dom and his Father, to countless others, including his own wife to the fertility project that gave him his son. I feel as though this choice was definitely more fleshed out though in-game.

@@TechMorePayLess It's heavily implied that the fertility project had something to do with her death by Jin when she's talking with Marcus about her. It could have had nothing to do with it though, so I guess we shouldn't say it's concrete evidence to explain how or why she died.

My son and I just finished 5 (played through the series together). After this choice (I chose Del), we were quiet for a beat before I said "I had to". My son didn't hesitate and said, "you made the right choice."

My first playthrough i saved Del because he was there for Kait through everything when JD wasn't.

She has the aim to cut the tentacles from that range while being chocked but couldn't put the knife between reynas eyes

Like every Gears of war fan I Saved JD in a heartbeat I was already moving RS to the right for JD before I even had the option. ❤️ Marcus has lost too many he doesn’t to lose his son too. 😢

I picked JD. Marcus has had at least 3 main losses throughout the series. Anya, Dom, and his father. Not to mention there are probably more than that. Regardless, I didn't have the heart to pick Del, and have Marcus lose someone else near and dear to him.

Lets appreciate for Marcus because he has a journey from Gears 1 to Gears 5 and lost his own kid which is JD

There are only 2 things to go from this point Either punished Marcus (nothing to lose, nothing to gain) Or JD going through Marcus-phase (like when Dom died)

I picked JD because I thought of Marcus. Guy has already lost Dom, Anya, his dad. Too much to also lose his only son. Also, JD has a bit of a redemption arc going on. I hope Del dying is canon, or there will be 2 different paths in the campaign of Gears 6 where either Del or JD lives.

The death of Chopper in the Ace Combat franchise made me do that. They made him such a likable character. Funny, talkative, had a brother...

I am so glad that Kait was the one making the choice. It could have been worse. It could have been JD choosing between Kait or Del. Thank god, the coalition didn't do us like that. JD and Del are both guys so the choice isn't that hard for me. I could never be deeply emotional over another guy. As a straight male, I only grew emotionally attached to Kait. She is cute and smart. Thank god, I was playing her. I liked JD and Del but never grew too attached to either of them. So making a choice between the two isn't difficult. I would enjoy Gears 6, playing with both JD and Del as teammates. In alternate story runs.

As much as I loved Del, I couldn't put Marcus through this loss. It's his legacy. He's already lost his wife and his brother. Too imagine him going through losing a son is just too much.

Hopefully they do like mass effect and the game plays on depending on whuch character you choose

I was hoping for fahz to come in and save the day it's sooo saddening to have to chose one or the other I chose JD like most people ( coz of marcus) but it's been less than 5 and I'm missing del I hope it's messed up and he somehow survives

Marcus was upset for del aswel marcus cared for both JD and del thats why marcus was asking hey wheres d because marcus had del look after JD del was like a 2nd son to marcus ether way it hurts to lose a friend who is soo close to the family because even dom was so close to Adam and marcus that marcus was literally trying to get dom out of a exploded on fire fuel truck that's dedication till anya stops him from getting himself killed

I see a lot of people saying they killed del but I picked killing jd the first time. Mostly because del has always been there for kait no matter how bad things got. I kinda made my decision not on what I would make, but what Kait would do Edit: I feel like this should be the canon ending cuz it would be interesting to have room fleshing out Del’s character and seeing him recovering from JD’s death in Gears 6. Perhaps we could actually play as Del in that game and get a side of him that’s a little more serious. It would also be crazy to see Marcus sacrifice himself to end the swarm since with JD gone, he’d have nothing left to lose

What happened if you pick neither just wait?

It's like everyone misses del but if they gave time for more character development and maybe where you didn't have to save one and kill the other and someone saved the day

James finally saw his father again in gears 4,and actually had a chance to talk with him, Marcus should not go through all his deaths again,even worse if james actually died Marcus might kill himself by sacrificing his own life to join his own family.

JD dying has got to end up being the canon storyline, which is why I saved Del. Realistically Kait has too much of a friendship with Del and JD was pretty much an ass to the two of them following the HoD incident in Act 1. Obviously players are attached to JD for being a Fenix, but I feel it drives the story so much fluently for JD to be the one yo bite the dust. A lot more of an emotional impact too

I saved Jd because my boy Marcus has gone through way to much to now lose his own son even tho I liked Del more. But it was sad to see Fahz. He was a dick at the beginning of the game but I grew to really like him. It was said to see him like that but nothing can overcome Marcus.

Chose Del. Thinking JD would come back in Gears 6 with Queen Reyna taking JD body mentally messing with Marcus, Kait, and Del.

I imagine her messing with them differently To marcus it would be “You sholdive been there” to del “Why you” to kait “Why him not me”

Shouldn't be a choice. You are playing as Kait. She saves JD out of instinct because they are more than just friends.

seems like killing Del was the canon ending but then way was i so quick to kill JD and feel nothing, besides pain when i saw i marcus.

I chose Del over JD... and man I had no idea what I was getting into. That really messed me up and feels like such a great push in the story.

JD Marcus has been through enough pain.

Man had to save Del 🤦🏾🤦🏾that my dawg but I wanted to cry so bad when they killed Jd man that was my dude no cap 😭😭if It was any and character other then del I would chose JD in Heart beat on god man 😭😭I honestly didn’t even think about how much Marcus lost during the war doe 😩

Clearly going to be a gears 6. How are they going to continue this? Either your choice carries through or they pick one and stick to that narrative. Either way it’s kinda bizzare plot point

Or at the beginning of the game, it flashes back to this scene so you have to choose again and the game will go from the choice you made

funny thing is we only see the queen once and like she just kills one if them which is a stupid and lazy and she ending.

Gears 5 is the first game i played gears so i dont know marcus s story so much. Probably thats the reason i saved del. He was so good to kait.

It’s so sad because I loved the new team. JD fahz, Kate, and del so sad to see it go

I saved Del because when I heard about the deaths of them which were spoiled for me I just think since Dell was with you all the time in the game makes him a loyal companion and since everyone kills del I wanted to see what was different long story short Marcus is moody as hell I wonder what happens when he finds out you could save one of them and you chose Del he would go absolutely mental

Who knows which will be the canon ending

Riccardo Capizzi There is a guidebook of gears 5 that confirms the canon ending is when you save JD. And also rod says that the canon ending will be with JD alive but who knows they can chance that decision.

He lost his best friend and his dad in GoW 3 he lost his wife and unborn child in between games how much pain can one man take i wasnt gonna find out sorry Del i loved you but I love Marcus more

JDs is sadder because of Marcus. I can't take away the last thing he has in his life

Don't get me wrong I liked Del but Marcus lost a brother, a father, a wife and I don't want to see him lose his son

That's whyt I saved James for my old man Marcus. He didn't deserve to lose a son. I love Del too but I just couldn't let Marcus suffer more pain.

Del had to die, he was the second black guy next to Cole. Narratively speaking, there can only be one, those are the rules.

It's funny because it's true, haven't you seen every horror movie or the walking dead? Lol

This is literally the saddest thing ever for Marcus if you save Del. Marcus, who lost his best friend Dom and his wife Anya. He then went to keep Doms memory alive by giving his son his name. What a fucking ride man. I saved JD because of this.
