Great video. I held down the 4 buttons until my fingers hurt. It went into diagnostic mode one time, and then timed-out while I was watching the video to figure out the next step. I’ll let my fingers recover before attempting again.

Thank you for replying. Your videos are really helpful and make a big difference before having to go the tech route. This I am doing and I prefer not to do the inverter check. Are there any last minute fixes. Resets, fuses etc? The cat cuts in and out intermittently hence the occasional nudge to kick it off but I could blow on it and it would turn so could be fluff or too far on the spindle. Thanks again.

Amazing video!! Would never have known about diagnostic mode without you…certainly not from GE! Is there a list of the various diagnostic modes you can provide? I performed the thermistor test #7 and all 5 passed. My monogram freezer stays cold -6) for about a week then goes up to about 32 and I have to remove everything. It then will go back down on its own and stay cold again for about a week. This has been going on for nearly a month. Any thoughts? And tests to run?

Excellent video. I have not been able to get my ZISB420DXA Ge Monogram into Diagnostic mode. It was stuck on the default reading of 0 and 37 degrees. Pushing the buttons did nothing. We installed a new control board and then tried it and that did not resolve the problem. We purchased a new HMI Control board assembly panel and now it shows 000 000. Still locked up. I understand 000 is an icemaker error code. The entire icemaker is functioning perfectly. Not sure how to remove the 000 error code. Until that is gone, I can't access the Diagnostics Mode. What would you recommend we do next? I had a GE repair guy here who couldnt figure it out! I appreciate any thoughts on the matter. Thanks

I had no idea my refrigerator had a diagnostic mode! I suspect my 15 yo fridge has a faulty air damper, and this test confirmed it (I think it's the lower one that goes to the crisper drawer). Now I just need to figure out how to replace it. Thank you!

REALLY USEFUL THANK YOU we have the exact same fridge from 2003 and still working, Except the condenser fan has been sticking and needs a tiny nudge to get it going. But this morning the condenser was cold and freezer and fridge warming fast. When I try your test 1/5 and hit the temp display it goes to 0 0 instead of blacking out per your video for a reset. Otherwise the 1-4 are all passes. ANy thoughts re the reset? And can this be cured with a reset from overheating condenser? Many thanks again.

Based on your description, it sounds like you're referring to the compressor being cold. Given the information you've provided, it seems like your condenser fan motor may need a replacement, especially considering you've had to manually push it to initiate movement. Secondly, if the condenser fan isn't rotating at the correct RPM, it could potentially short circuit the inverter (I have a tutorial on testing this in my video collection). Therefore, if both the top and bottom sections aren't cooling, I'm fairly confident your inverter may have failed. I hope this information was helpful!

I have a Monogram ZISS360DHASS and the thermistor test results are P1, P2, F3, F4, F5. The unit is only around 5 years old but I'm so tired of having Monogram technicians replace fans, ice pans / hoses, heaters etc., etc. only for the fridge and freezer temperature to rise to around 45 and 20 respectively, usually within a few weeks of their last $500 repair. Does this unit (Note: 36 inch model) really have 5 thermistors and if so do I need to replace all 3 or could this be a symptom of a different issue? Thanks for your help.

What do I press if I don’t have a Ttemp Display” button? I have a “Display Mode” (C or F) button, a “Reset Filter” button, & a “Door Alarm” button. My GE Monogram ziss480nxbss doesn’t have 4 (+ - ) buttons, just a single row display: Freezer - + -11 39 - + Refrigerator. My freezer temperature is obviously too cold! 🙏🏻Help please

Thank you for the excellent video! I have a similar 42" GE Monogram Built-In Refrigerator and been having an issue with the temperature of the freezer and fridge. Sometimes Freezer temperarture goes as low as -17F and fridge temperature rises to 43F even thoug the set temperature is default (0F and 37F). Everytime it does this I turn off the fridge overnight and then turn it on the second day and works fine for 3-4 weeks and same issue recurres again. I think it is a defrost issue because everytime the freezer goes to negative temperature first (-17F or so) then the fridge temparature starts going up from 37F to 42F-43F. Do you agree?

I have a Monogram refrigerator from 2003 and it has been running warm. Freezer is at 20F and refrigerator at 45F. Compressor is very hot to the touch and the center panel is very warm/hot as well. I will try the 1-4 defrost test but if that fails, what can I do to fix that? Will replacing the motherboard solve that issue or is there something else? Thank you in advance and your videos have been very helpful!

It appears that your compressor is overheating, and the center is particularly hot. This could indicate a couple of potential issues: A) Your condenser fan might not be functioning properly, or B) Your condensers could be heavily soiled, leading to an increase in temperature. I would recommend examining these possibilities to determine the cause. Please feel free to update me on your findings. Wishing you the best with troubleshooting!

I was able to clean the condenser coil and fan and vacuum the built up dust around the area. Refrigerator is cooling properly so far, center divider is no longer warm/hot. I Did notice condenser fan was very loud when rebooting, maybe that will need to be replaced soon. Compressor is still very hot to the touch. Could that be a motherboard issue?

I have a ge monogram refrigerator that I just purchased used. Owners say it worked fine, but I had to lay it sideways for a day before I could get it up in my garage. I let it sit upright for a week, then plugged it in. It's not cooling, but when I run diagnostics, all of the process pass. I've rebooted a few times, unplugged, turned off power and let it sit for 24 hours, no go. Thinking I need a service call but wanted to exhaust all avenues before doing that.

  • @onlineappliancetech

Hi there! It sounds like you've already taken several good steps in troubleshooting your GE Monogram refrigerator. Transporting refrigerators sideways can sometimes cause issues, as it can lead to the oil from the compressor running into the cooling lines. You did the right thing by letting it sit upright for a week before plugging it in, as this allows the oil to settle back. However, if it's still not cooling, there might be a few more things you can check before calling for service: Check the Seals: Make sure the door seals are intact and sealing tightly. Any air leak can prevent proper cooling. Condenser Coils: Ensure that the condenser coils are clean. If they're dusty or dirty, they can't release heat efficiently. Thermostat Setting: Double-check the thermostat setting to ensure it's not set too high. Ventilation: Ensure the refrigerator has enough space around it for proper air circulation. Listen for the Compressor: The compressor should be running. If it's not, that's a clear sign something's wrong. If after checking these things the issue persists, it might indeed be time to call a professional. They can check for more complex issues like a coolant leak or a faulty compressor. Best of luck!"

Monogram Refrigerator, Model ZISS360DHBSS, Test 0-7 to test thermisters, and 1,2 Pass, but 3,4,5 Fail. What does this indicate needs to get replaced? The temperatures are fine, for the moment, but the compressor (I think) runs a long time.

I have the same results. 1 and 2 pass but 3, 4, and 5 fail. The refrigerator is not cooling all the way. It is currently about 6 degrees in the freezer and 40 in the refrigerator. The fan in the freezer that you can hear running with the door closed and normally turns off when either door is opened is NOT running with the door closed. The fan test seems to make it run. I have had this problem several times especially after a power outage in my area. Any comments or advice is appreciated.

@@mstreich No they are still failing but the temperature in the freezer and refrigerator has come back down to where it should be. It’s a strange situation in that each time we have a power outage, when the power is restored, the refrigerator seems to not cool until I fiddle with it by resetting the main board until I hear the fans running running while the doors are closed.

It's important to prioritize safety before attempting any electrical repairs, so please make sure to unplug the appliance first. Once that's done, it's possible that the issue stems from a grounded wire, meaning the wire connecting the fan to the main control might be touching the housing, which could be the source of your problem. After ensuring the appliance is unplugged, disconnect the harness from the main MPC. Then, use a multimeter set to the OHMS setting, as you'll be checking for resistance. To test each wire, place one prong on a wire and the other on a ground wire at the housing of the fridge, making sure there's no paint obstructing the contact. The multimeter should display "OPEN LINE" for each wire. If it shows any other reading, it indicates that your wire is grounded, and you'll need to locate the point of the short. If you're not comfortable using a multimeter, I would advise seeking the assistance of an experienced technician to perform the test for you. Please let me know how it goes. I hope this helps, and have a wonderful day!
