I replaced the dishwasher heating element but it still didn't work. The BEST fix ending up being to replace the Flood Switch, which has a thermostat unit built in. Here is the flood switch: amzn.to/2DOyy2o . I could not find documentation or a tutorial anywhere, but this fixed my issue!!! I hope this helps you! Leave a comment and let me know if this fixed your issue! Links to tools and parts to fix your dishwasher are listed at the bottom of the description!

If the switch doesn't resolve your issue, check your heating element, look for any signs of breaks or cracks.
Also, I believe it's important to prevent the root cause to keep from having to replace this sensor every so often. We were, for the longest time, using the good dishwashing detergent. We ran upon hard times and ended up using the cheapest stuff we could find. After 2 months, it wasn't cutting the grease we were putting through the dishwasher and it backed up the sensor. I tried to clean it but nothing but replacing it helped.
Do yourself a favor and use good products in your dishwasher. Below are the links to products we use in our home. Try to clean your dishwasher at least once a month with the Allfresh dishwasher cleaner packs. The Cascade helps to break down all of the grease on plates. Give it a try and let me know what you think in the comments section below.

@@kathi10208 if yours is a GE dishwasher that has this flood switch then I would say that is your issue. You can test the heated dry first but if it’s not heating your water my guess is the heated dry won’t work either :)

UPDATE: Thank you! I ordered the part using the link that you provided (awesomeness) and the new flood switch was delivered yesterday. This morning we replaced it and it works! A $25 part over a $200+ = JACKPOT! When I disconnected the switch I clipped a clothespin onto the wire so it wouldn't drop down into the underworld! It held it in place perfectly! Seriously, I can't thank you enough!

I had a warranty service call on the dishwasher just like this one and the technician replaced the board and the element with no improvement. I decided to Google "GE dishwasher not drying dishes" and your video came up. I forwarded it to the service technician, he ordered the part and that fixed it. His troubleshooting guide did not have this part failure as an issue for repairing this problem. He had also never replaced one of these before. He was about condemn this dishwasher as unrepairable so that the warranty company would replace it. Thanks to my finding your video, there will be one less "repairable" dishwasher in the landfill! Just wish I had searched Google before putting in a call to the warranty company. I would have saved about $40. Thanks for publishing this video.

Now my dishwasher dries again! I couldnt get the hex bolts out to remove the flood sensor because they were covered in so much gunk. Not sure if you're tired of hearing this but you saved me! I know nothing about repairs and this fixed my problem. My dishwasher is only 5 yrs old and stopped heating. After this repair, it is heating great and my dishes are actually cleaner than they've been in a very long time. The hardest part of this repair (for me) was figuring out what kind of screwdriver to use because, again, this is all completely unfamiliar territory. I had to take a photo of the screw to the hardware store and they told me what to get; it ended up being a nut driver. Thank you for this video!

Thanks for posting this. When I googled, luckily this was one of the first things that came up. I have a different GE dishwasher (GDT580SSFSS), but when you showed the door controls and inside of your unit, I realized that they were essentially identical. Thanks also for the heads-up on the screws - I stuck a very small rare-earth magnet on the side of my nut driver to capture them. (1/4" nut driver, btw) And thanks for telling us the flood switch assembly part number - I found it immediately on Amazon and it was delivered the next day. Here's a couple more tips: after you unscrew and remove the filter, there are two large plastic "bolts" behind the the lower water arm that secure the big flat stainless steel screen. Remove that screen and then you can lift out the plastic piece that surrounds the well where the flood switch sits - this makes access easier. Also, I placed a milk crate on either side of the door and then placed a board across them, creating a little platform that I could lie on while I worked. This made it much easier for me to get in there comfortably. An elastic band head lamp is really handy, too, getting good light right where you need it.

Luckily I saw this video before I bought the heating element. Worked like a charm! Super quick repair. The old one was so gunked up you couldn’t hear a ball inside at all when you shook it. Only advice I have is make sure you have the proper tool to remove the screw (not a typical Phillips/flat head screw). Once I found the right socket took me less than 5 minutes. Thanks so much!!!

Appreciate you posting this. So the difference with mine was the retaining ring around the float valve. Easy enough to take out. But I thoroughly cleaned my float valve. This can be done but has to be very thorough. Taking it out it it was quite greasy. I cleaned the outside, sprayed some cleaning (kitchen cleaning) chemicals like Mr. Clean and sprayed it thoroughly. After rinsing it I put the valve in a cup of white vinegar, enough so the top (with the small holes) was submerged up to the slotted holes on the side (electrical connection up). I let it soak for about 15 minutes, shook it out and sprayed with my kitchen faucet with a power spray. If you have a power washer you can do this outside I guess. Just don't power wash the connector on the bottom. Basically, there has to be zero grease, and if you shake it you should hear the float move. Then I put it back in the vinegar cup. Did this a few times to make sure I got as much gunk out of it, then put it back together. If this fails again I'll buy the part. But if you want to wash it, you can try.
