GCN Takes Over a Bike Shop | What Could Possibly Go Wrong?

Спорт

Have you ever wondered what a GCN bike shop would look like? Well wonder no more! We take over Pronto Bikes in a nearby town of Frome for a day and, well, the results speak for themselves.
Manon breaks out a saw before she’s thankfully stopped by Ollie, Alex actually seems to know what he’s doing in the workshop, and Hank tries to do a bike fit. And tries to sell a bike. And tries to run a yoga class…

My local bike shop is excellent. They treat my family and me professionally and friendly. We always get a bike education when we visit. Of course, we have bought four good bikes from them this year, and next year we plan on buying two more. A fat tad etrike for my wife to replace the $5K fat tad etrike that was totaled, thus saving her life, when she was hit 67 feet on 11MAY21 and broke 6 ribs. She wants her fat tad etrike back. All my cycles (velomobile, fat tire, Amsterdam, & Wal-Mart single speed cruiser brake bike) are for my cycling commute. I want a gravel bike for pleasure riding, but that might be in our budget in November 2022.

we've got one place that's kind of like that here in Albany New York it's got a cafe above with a bike shop below, I don't think they have any of the other things though. however that shop's not convenient for me to go to. the shop that I do go to just happens to be the only one around that sells 45Nrth products, but it is kind of clique-ish. if you're not in the clique, then you're just a sale, when the attitude should be about growth of the community... bringing new people into the community. for example nobody's ever mentioned to me when they have rides or where to go to find out if they have rides although I've heard them talk about rides with other customers. not that I'm particularly interested, but that's how you grow those communities how do you know if somebody wants to unless you mention that they do it?

Hank did a brilliant job of showing exactly what not to do. He could make a good used car salesman in America. Ollie has it right with "Listen to the customer," and he would do the best in a bike shop.

Man owning a bike shop would be so cool. Challenging no doubt, but having all of these different aspects of the shop to grow a community is just incredible

Sounds easy enough. If your shop is like mine, get used to saying, “it is out of stock right now.”

Hahahaha! The bike sales example reminds me of a kid I used to work with. The things that would come out of his mouth was amazing. He would be on a roll and doing good and all of the sudden he would say something like " Lance Armstrong rides a bike just like this. It's why he wins all the time. You'll be just as fast." The bike would be a Tiagra or or 105 flat bar road bike or something. My favorite was when a different coworker told two girls shopping mountain bikes that Rockshox SID was short for Sudden Infant Death. They looked like they wanted to run out the door. They were not even in the market for a $1800 mtn bike. This guy always went straight to the XC, XTR bikes with small frame and 135mm stem and never asked the customer what they wanted.. I could tell they wanted to spend around $650. I about fell over in shock! I didn't want to make my coworker look stupid but I didn't want the ladies to be offended, not come back and talk bad about us. I got on the intercom and called him to the repair department for a customer thank you. When he came over I told him it was Superlight Integrated Design and he needed to apologize and correct that. He could say someone had played a prank on him and he didn't know. Then I said he needed to show them the 14 inch Palomar swapping an 70mm stem onto it with a gel pad saddle not the 18" Zaskar Team if he actually wanted to sale a bike. Luckily that all worked out and they left smiling and came back for accessories later.

Ok, it was a long ad, but great. Manon is definitely the sharpest knife in the GCN box. I remember when bike shops were run by bitter old blokes in warehouse coats.......

Spotted where they were almost straight away - Pronto is in Frome and is a brand new setup since i was last home two years ago. The "real" staff are super friendly and great coffee at the cafe when you walk in. The Pronto jerseys are superb - Castelli. They looked after my bike whilst i went shopping in town and i swear they cleaned my brake disks whilst i was out as when i came down the hill, everyone in the shop thought there was a baby elephant outside ! On my ride later in the day, not a squeal to be heard.

Mega-LOL, DS Manon came out right away when she opened the book ... Then, fell off my chair laughing when Manon watches an Alex video to do a tubeless setup LOL, ultimate goal : drop Ollie LOL, Hank does everything he shouldn't to sell a bike. Is it me, or the store closed definitely after that stint ?
