Gaslighting - Explained Clearly, Specifically, and Understandably

Ойын-сауық

Considering the recent announcement that "gaslighting" is the latest word of the year, Ross updated his already innovative information on the topic. Ross's perspective has always differed from most. This video provides Ross's freshest and most current information on the vastly misunderstood topic of gaslighting.
His focus is on the deliberate and inexcusable abuse of the victim, a gentle and empathetic suggestion that the codependent or person suffering from "Self-Love Deficit Disorder/SLDD" has a "broken relationship picker," which tricks them into believing the "soulmate of their dreams" is the answer to all of their hopes, wishes, and for some, prayers. But in reality, this perfect seeming lover is nothing more than the "cellmate of their nightmares."
The person who has been "baited and switched" unknowingly becomes a gaslighting victim. Blaming it on the narcissist seems fitting, as no one deserves to be abused, neglected, deprived, and brainwashed. But to overcome the SLDD problem, the victim must understand their mental health history, family dynamics, and susceptibility to giving away their power to a person who tricks them into believing in their positive intentions while secretly, in the background, schemes to destroy them.
This video provides a great deal of information about gaslighting, including what it is, where it came from, what the signs are, and what to do about it.

You just answered the question that has been bothering me since the event that occurred about this time last year. Cognitive dissonance is exactly what I saw and I’m glad it now has a name that I can call it. It floored me when I watched her sit across from me and tell me that not only did she not do the things that she actually did, but that I was a liar, deceived, a deceiver, and there was something wrong with my mind. My husband and I were able to get her to admit that some things had changed (you’d have to have been there to understand) to which when she realized she was caught in her lie, and I swear this is true - begin to flap her hands, like she was trying to fly out of the room. Before she was caught, she was totally motionless, looking at me with contempt and lying her face off, and then immediately flapping her hands. My husband and I still laugh about that sight even now but remained incredulous at her ability to lie without remorse or hesitation. Of course, she never admitted to her lies. Thank you. The more I information I have, the better I understand the perverse sickness that my mother hatched in my family.

There used to be such a joke in a Soviet school: the teacher explained the material for a very long time, but the students did not understand the topic. By the end of the lesson, the sweaty teacher says: wow, when I explained it to you, even I understood it myself...🐞

Sometimes, you can't contact people, because the gaslighter locked you out of your accounts, installed a trojan on your phone with contacts, bugged your phone, house, and is intercepting everything you type. Awful difficult to get a hold of anyone when that's going on.

When I came out of my gaslighting experience with a sociopath I felt like Patty Hearst. I understood that my attraction to this individual was based on the best and worst aspects of my parents (Bonnie and Clyde) combined - although he was infinitely more cunning. I thought I had escaped my childhood trauma. Boy, was I mistaken. It's been a long haul coming home to myself with healthy boundaries. Thanks for your assistance Ross - for me and so many others. Blessings always 🙏💐👍

Questions: How can you tell that a person with SLDD is healed? What are the signs that tell that the former SLDD ’s emotional reaction to an NPD’s devaluating actions is “normal”?

In my travels gaslighting can be conducted with home/business contractors and repair personnel be very careful. All in at first, then gaslighting can begin. @6:00 mark can be used as an example of the start of this situation. One company in my area will use "they (so and so) are in training" as code for thwarting customer inquires. Run do not walk away. Awesome and Thank You, this video helps myself to remember stay on an even keel. 1+1+1 does not equal 5. Cheers to All!

This is an important word because gaslighting is so pervasive and ubiquitous in our overall society and personal lives, many don't even know they're being subjected to it, by whom, why, and how it affects individuals and whole groups of people. Very pertinent to an increasingly social world. There are pros and cons of us all being "connected" and "communicating" all the time. Those are really GOOD things. However, the darker agents in our world use these mechanisms as weapons, often to great effect.

Can’t say absolutely it’s because people are becoming more aware of narcissism and arming themselves with knowledge. But I certainly hope so. Maybe next year “narcissists “will be the most searched word!

Questions to Mr. Rosenberg, Is "gaslight syndromes" contagious??..Y do I ask such questions seemed kinda dumbfounded??..To my own experiences, during the past years of COVID-19 proliferation, I was soooooo shocked to find out all those around me did have this sociopath syndromes as you described all at once..Lucky me, I didn't contract this syndromes afterall..Although few years had passed, I am amazed to find out these individuals still suffering quite seriously of this untreatable sociopathic lied without shame and seemed like they were very uncomfortable at my presence..I wonder why??..Do you have an explanation for this according to your experiences..Greatly appreciated..

I don't know if what i experienced is indeed gaslighting or abuse..but now that i'm working on my self awareness i can't stop feeling that. I often feel bad for myself for dealing with few people with NPD in my fam since my childhood that affect my everyday life now. I used to be said like they love & treat me like i'm their princes, that they spoiled me to others..but inside i feel like i was treated like a robot/doll/trophy. I used to feel guilty for taking care/prioritize myself, even for basic needs like eating, taking a shower..that now i still hardly able to enjoy eating even when i'm alone. They even guilt trip me for prioritizing my education when i was trying my best to finish my thesis..basically because they think i had to devoted myself to take care of their sick mom (while they are busy doing adventures, pursuing their dreams) as to show my gratitude. I used to feel i'm never good enough that i have to do beyond people (specially theirs) expectation +do everything for them even doing their personal obligation like cooking for them, washing their dishes, cleaning their room & bathroom, taking care of theirs belongings (they always forget & loose it)..while had to take care of myself on my own. I used to feel worse for not always be happy, patient & wise in every situation. I was treated like a monster whenever i express my anger or even slight disappointment. Even rn people still ask me to stay at home to take care of them to show how grateful i am for getting those love..but all i want is to escape, have my own life & enjoy every bit of it. It's really weird..because people love & adore them so much. People always say i'm lucky to have such kind, caring & loving fam around me..but why do i always feel hurts, unseen, unheard or even suffer (i have been struggling with deppression, panic disorder, OCD, eating disorder, suicidal).

Hello Dr. Ross Can you explain whether a person can gaslight themselves? That is in Addition to their partner/family member? My daughter has been gaslighting me for many years. I was groomed to this role by my mother. It’s impossible to have a balanced conversation with my adult daughter- I think she may be gaslighting herself? Deeply traumatised by her father as a small child. Unable & unwilling to seek help. If this could be the case what might I say to help her? I’ve pulled right back from her recently on discovering she has grievously betrayed me Thank you and best wishes with your wonderful work 🙏

There is a difference between compassion and empathy though. Also, BDP are mostly well aware of themselves and their actions. There is just emotional deregulation (inability to inhibit the reactions). Do you say "uhm" alot? Notice the video is trimmed every few seconds. Don't get me wrong. Appreciate the insights. Just many things being blanketed.
