I’ve been out of work for almost two months first due to covid then due to a fractured fibula that I had to have surgery on. I’ve been quite depressed, and Mikey, from the bottom of my heart I wanna thank you for your hard work you put in your content. I feel like you’re a friend to me in this lonely period of my life. Every time you come out with a new video I feel like a friend is coming to visit me. You make me laugh, smile, and forget about my problems. I love seeing all your videos. And I’m so grateful you pump out content frequently. Your light is infectious. Your passion is inspiring. Again, thank you. You truly don’t know how you and your videos impact my life.

When you said BBQ and gas station, I knew you were going to Joe's. Jack Stack is also good bbq. They are known for smoking their beans below their meats so the juices drop down into the beans. They also have lamb ribs which were something new and tasty.

KC native here. My husband and I are getting Joe's for lunch now. 😆 You flung a craving on us. Also OF COURSE the burnt ends are better in KC than Texas. Burnt ends are a KC specialty. You kind of can't really call yourself Kansas City BBQ unless burnt ends are on the menu and they'd better be good.

Yo Mike! You can totally call ahead and place your order for pick up, especially when you're doing a long distance drive. I did a cross country road/camping trip last summer, after doing some research I decided to stop by Joe's on my way to my next camp site. I called them when I was about an hour away & pretty much walked in/walked out while there were long lines out the restaurant waiting for both take out and tables.

While I haven't lived there for many years, I am from KCMO originally. I've never heard of making burnt ends sweet until you showed it at a BBQ in Texas. Next time you go, you should try Jack Stack. It's been around for decades. I know you don't normally do sides much, but if you go there, you definitely have to try the beans. They are sweet, smoky with a little bit of spice added and then cooked in the smoker under the meat and all the juices that drop down into them. You might also consider doing a show around the American Royal where the annual World Series of barbecue is done. You'd get to try barbecue from all across the world and you can apply to be a judge, although there's no guarantee.

Burnt Ends are definitely THE thing to get when it comes to KC BBQ. Ribs are next in my book. And for us that sweet tangy sauce is the big thing. Even the spiciest sauce is still gonna be pretty sweet. Sometimes I prefer a more vinegar-based sauce but in terms of the actual BBQ, KC does it right.

Had Burnt Ends at Okie Joe’s ...WAY OVERRATED. They tasted...burnt...but saltier than a Slim Jim. Also went to Arthur Bryant’s...overated. On the same trip, I ate at a Cheesecake Factory. NGL the Pulled pork Sandwhich at CF was better than the “legendary” KC BBQ joints 🤣 California has better BBQ than KC. Perhaps my expectations were too high, but I was comparing the KC joints to everything I previously had.

If I were to recommend a place, I'd recommend Smokehouse BBQ. They have three locations in the general KC area and are pretty reliable in their quality. Though to be honest, I was lucky enough growing up to have parents who were great cooks, so my favorite bbq joint is my dad's backyard. And I'm not gonna just champion my hometown BBQ - I've had some of the most amazing BBQ in Texas and North Carolina. Doesn't matter where it's made as long as it's good and close enough for you to get it. Also, I can't recommend or comment on Oklahoma Joe's. I've never been there purely on the principle that I know where good BBQ is already and I can't really expect good Kansas City style BBQ to come from a place that's namedropping Oklahoma as their location of choice. It's like opening up a big BBQ pit in the heart of Texas and calling it "Wyoming Fred's BBQ"

@@thehuhu Hmmm... it looks like he did edit the video. He took out the part where he stopped at a burger place in Oklahoma City. He mentioned it in the intro, but for whatever reason he took that part out. The screencap I was referring to is now at 19:44

watching Mikey chow down on ultra juicy and tender BBQ distracted me from my comparatively plain soup that I was eating at the time. All of that delicious food was truly a feast for the eyes, even if I didn't have a feast for my stomach, haha.
