Arthur Dalton Exactly. Even though it's a totally different sport, this reminds me of watching NFL games years ago and hearing that so and so would be the next Lawrence Taylor. Nobody has said that for years. Why? because like Michael Jordan, we will never see his equal; guys like LT and MJ come along once in two lifetimes.

I think it's more than just Jordan. I think it's the Jordan's 'era' that longtime basketball fans are yearning. Back then there really were a certain 'magic' in the sport. Nowadays, it's really hard to get excited about anything basketball. Start mentioning the old guards names and any basketball fans who's old enough to have gone through that era will start reminiscing and reliving those times, you remember very vividly the moments, the games, the moves, everything that hit closest to you, that's that certain magic I was talking about. Now I just can't remember any truly magical moments in the nba that will stay with me even after 10,20 years on.

March 11, 1989 doug collins decided to put MJ in the point guard position against seattle. He finished that game with 15 assists, very next game MJ finished with 21/14/14 against the pacers in only 32 min of playing, he reached the triple double mark in just 21 min. MJ continued to play the PG position for the rest of the season in these 24 games he averaged 29.3PPG, 10.6APG, 8.9RPG 2.4SPG. March 24th-April 14th MJ recorded 10 triple doubles in 11 games, including 7 straight triple doubles. In the one game he didnt record a triple double he finished with 40/11/7. So imagine if Jordan chased stats instead of championships.

    2 жыл бұрын

@@jamaroliver850 And that relates to the original comment how exactly?? The issue here isn't about how MJ lead the league in scoring points, the OP's point is that if MJ was all about chasing stats for stats sake, or wanted to be known as someone with a lot of Triple doubles (and some people actually use this as a point to attempt to say Jordan wasn't a team oriented player), he could have stayed in the PG position and continued doing what he proved he could do in the 88-89 season, except that would have been a detriment to the overall team success so he limited himself to his best attributes and knew when to let his teammates play their respective roles, thereby creating a more complete team. Basically MJ was a defensive monster, a rebounder, shooter, and general playmaker. But he also knew when to let Kerr shoot, Pippin score, or Rodman rebound. That gave away his stats, but it also helped create a more complete team and freed himself up to focus on his own game better to lead them to Championship rings

LeBron is in 10 Finals and won 4, that’s 40%! A long way from MJ’s 100%! Also, MJ was with only one team, the Bulls, when he won his Championships. Plus, he took off two seasons in the middle of his career and came back to the Bulls and won 3 more Championships! He held the scoring title 10 times, and led the league in steals 3 times! Ricardo Sines people are ridiculous, "the number of seasons have taken a toll on LeBrons body" what? His worse injuries have been cramps and played 82 games once in his whole career. MJ suffered a broken foot in his second year. Kobe tore his Achilles and had plenty of broken finger issues etc. LeBron has had the luxury of being a genetic anomaly in that his body can stay healthy for a long period of time. Plus, this whole concept is stupid anyway, who cares how many NBA seasons you play, you're an athlete you should be able to withstand the physical exertion night in and night out. LeBrons not going to decrease in ability one day because he's "played in the league long" hes going to lose his ability because he's getting old. Stop making excuses for him not playing defence, he's either being lazy or his endurance is not as good as we thought. The number of NBA seasons should have nothing to do with that. Especially when you've suffered no injures or didn't even play full seasons.

There’s been a lot of noise lately about LeBron perhaps passing Jordan as the G.O.A.T. There’s no doubt that LeBron is all-time great - in my opinion, there’s a solid argument that he might land at #2 on that list. But when the numbers are laid down, sorry kids...it ain’t close. From a post on KSR: Jordan vs LeBron Updated after Lebrons 14th season. Michael Jordan has: •3 more rings •3 more final mvps •1 more DPOY •1 more season MVP •9 more scoring titles •3 more steals leader •3 more all defensive team selections •4000 more points / bron moved past him in playoff points, but it took him longer. •800 more steals •Beat 20 50+ win teams in the playoffs (Lebron only defeated 10) •Jordan never averaged less than 40% Field Goal in the finals Lebron did it twice •6/6 (never allowed a game 7) •Lebron had much more offensive help, example: Jordan never had a teammate average more than 22 points in the finals.. In fact, Mj is Only player in NBA history to lead a team to the championship with only one teammate averaging double figures in scoring * In the Bulls’ 1997 playoff run, Scottie Pippen averaged 19 points per game on 42% shooting. All other teammates of Jordan averaged under 8 points per game Kyrie averaged over 28 and DWade averaged more than 26 •MJ never ever had a finals meltdown like Lebron in 2011 against the Mavs •MJ had more points in the playoffs in less games.. MJ accomplished all of this in 13 seasons Lebron after his 14th season, is still chasing the “ghost (GOAT) that played in Chicago” •Michael Jordan in the playoffs has put up atleast 40ppg, 5rpg, 5apg in 6 different playoff series. Along with an average of about 55% shooting, 3spg and 2bpg. (86 vs bos, 89 vs cavs, 90 vs philly, 92 vs Miami, 93 vs Phoenix, 88 vs cavs) Jordan won every one of those matchups except for the 1986 matchup vs the celtics. •Jordan in 88-89 averaged 32ppg, 8apg, 8rpg, 3spg off 54% shooting. LeBron has never even came close to this stat line. •in 87 thru 92, MJ averaged 5 straight seasons of atleast 51% FG shooting. LeBron has never done this. •the lowest FT% MJ ever shot in a season was 78%. Lebrons highest in a season ever is 78%. •MJ has a higher playoff FG% of 48.7% to Lebrons 48.3% •MJ has a higher playoff player efficiency rating of 28.6 to Lebrons 27.3. •MJ shoots a higher playoff 3 point percentage of 33.2% to Lebrons 32.9% •LeBron James has scored 30 points, 416 times in 1,117 games. Michael Jordan did it 562 times in 1,072 games. Jordan won 6 championships without losing a final in 1,072 games and LeBron in 1,117 games has lost 5 times and has only won 3 times (updated 2018) •MJ also shocked the league by being the first (and only) player to have 100 blocks and 200 steals in the same season, then turned around and did it again the next year.. •Mj also has more career blocks (893) than Lebron James (853) despite playing in 22 LESS career games and being the smaller guy. Also, MJ averaged 1.6 blocks per game in the 1987-88 season which is absolutely bonkers for a 6’6″ shooting guard. Seriously this list can keep going. This isn’t even a debate. Mj is the GOAT. MIchael Jordan: •NBA record 5 playoffs series’ averaging atleast 40ppg •Only player in history to lead league in scoring and win DPOY •Highest scoring average, points per game, in any championship series: 41.0 vs. Phoenix Suns, 1993 NBA Finals •Only rookie in NBA history to lead his team in four statistics (1984-85) •Only player in NBA history to lead the league in scoring, win Most Valuable Player, and Defensive Player of the Year in the same season (1987-88) •Only player in history to average at least 30pts 6reb 5assists And 2 steals per game AND HE DID IT 7 TIMES. •Only player in NBA history to win Rookie of the Year (1984-85), Defensive Player of the Year (1987-88), NBA MVP (1987-88, 1990-91, 1991-92, 1995-96, 1997-98), All-Star MVP (1988, 1996, 1998), and Finals MVP (1991, 1992, 1993, 1996, 1997, 1998) •Only player in NBA history to lead the league in scoring and win the NBA championship MORE THAN ONCE in the same season * He did this SIX TIMES!! (1990-91, 1991-92, 1992-93, 1995-96, 1996-97, 1997-98) •One of two players in NBA history to score 3,000 points in a season: 3,041 points scored in 82 games played (37.1 ppg) (1986-87) * Wilt Chamberlain is the only other player to achieve this. •MJ is also the only player in NBA history to score over 40 points at age 40, and he did it twice! •In 1988, MJ earned: Dunk Champ, All Star Game MVP, NBA Scoring Title, League MVP and Defensive Player of the Year. Michael in only ELEVEN complete seasons with the Bulls: -10 scoring titles, -Won Defensive Player of the Year, -9 times all defensive team, -9time All NBA, -5 league MVPs -6 finals MVPs All 11 seasons. Mj has done in 11 seasons things Lebron hasn’t done and won’t do in his whole career… Remind me again...who is the GOAT?

I do think players switch so much now because there are so many 3PT threats in the league that can shoot with just an inch or two of space... You cant hedge and let the defender recover, the ball is already in the air... I think the bigger problem is allowing yourself to be screened so easily with almost no contact. Very few players set true ball screens now.

The fact that they can't acknowledge that Lebron is 16-6 vs Kobe Bryant speaks volumes on how they completely ignore that Lebron defends Kobe in the fourth quarter. Or are we gonna say Kobe Bryant just let Lebron win those 16 times? This is what I hate about media/sports media is their ability to choose what to remember to fit their narrative.

MJ's Bulls wins back to back Championship in this era, Kobe and Lebron would put that hate aside and play together to try to beat MJ's bulls, along with wade and Harden and possibly Rondo running the Point with Ray Allan in his prime. It's gonna be the same if the Bulls played in this era, I will give the Bulls 3 championships, but no more.. Players are too smart in this era it's either can't beat em join em, or form a team to beat the best and win a championship..

@Younged 510 Going off by your name....You never watched Jordan play did you? Still swimming in your daddy's nut sack, huh? LeBron has played with better players than Jordan (Of course outside of the Dream Team). Let's see, LeBron has played with Wade, Bosh, and Ray Allen (All future HOF players). Then add Irving and Love (Both have multiple All-Star appearances). Wade, Bosh , and Ray Allen have all been to more All-Stars than Pippen and Rodman combined.... Wade, 12, Bosh, 11, Ray Allen, 10. You LeBron cheerleaders always talk about, "Jordan had Pippen and Rodman" but never want to talk about Pippen's stints with the Rockets and Blazers or the fact that Rodman was not there for the first 3-peat. Jordan made Pippen great/relevant.... Who has LeBron made great, huh? Oh and the, "coach excuse." Ha! Ha! Without Jordan or Kobe, Phil would be a nobody. He certainly could not win a ring without Jordan when he retired the first time now could he? Pippen was begging for him to come back but none of you cheerleaders want to talk about that, huh? Why does LeBron wear #23? Why does LeBron have Jordan at #1 on his top 5, huh? What happened against the Mavs in the 2011 finals, huh? Jason Terry (Bench player) outplayed LeBron. Then LeBron got shut-down by Iguodala (Bench player during the regular season) in the 2015 finals. Kawhi has shut-down LeBron in the finals too. Who has shut-down Jordan when it matters the most? Right! Jordan is the better defender and scorer, and it is not even debatable. One word to describe LeBron's cheerleaders, DELUSIONAL. Maybe in your wet dreams LeBron is better than Jordan.

Hand checking, hard fouls, post player dominance, and teams full of tough hombres made the 80's and early 90's so much more fun to watch, and millennials have no idea what they're missing but insist that their new era Houston and GSW 3 point chucking style of play could actually compete with and hypothetically beat the Lakers, Celtics, Pistons, Knicks, Sixers, and Bulls teams of old?? C'mon now. Even the Suns, Sonics, Blazers, and Magic teams of the 90's would man handle these cupcakes of today.

The Michael Jordan being the greatest or not is the dumbest debate. It's like debating weather the sky is blue. It's obvious and it's unarguable. Michael Jordan is bigger than Basketball, he is the star amongst stars, he is the measuring stick, he is the standard that all others are compared to. He is athletic excellence personified. He is the reason the NBA is known around the world. He is the reason sneakers are so popular with people who don't even play basketball. And to compare him to a player who joined super teams and still couldn't win against Dallas and San Antonio. A guy who is 3-6 in the finals, and barely won 2 championships with a Ray Allen and Kyrie three pointer. If not for that he'd be 1-8 in the finals..... Stop comparing this man to Jordan. The debate should be who is the second greatest of all time, Kobe, LBJ, Magic or Kareem.... leave MJ name out of this.

Umm I don't know about KD, Klay usually takes on the task of defending the opposing teams best player, KD is there for rim protection on defense

LeBron usually does it when it matters, he has also done it for entire games they are just ignoring it. Paul Pierce, Paul George, Durant in OKC, etc. Locking up D Rose etc etc, pretty dumb argument honestly. They got a memory span of like 2 years.

Soooo... are we just gonna forget when Lebron guarded Paul Pierce (2008-14), Derick Rose (2011 conference finals), Tony Parker (2013 finals), Paul George (2012-14) Chauncey Billups (2007 conference finals), Kevin Durant (2012 finals), prime Joe Johnson in atlanta and Brooklyn, Andre Iguodala (2011 first round), Carmelo Anthony (2012 first round), Jimmy Butler (2015 2nd round), Vince Carter and Richard Jefferson (conference semifinals in 2007)... Have we lost our minds that Lebron NEVER took on a defensive assignment?? I'm not saying he plays defence on the same level he used to but SAS saying he's never seen Lebron take on a defensive assignent to shut down a player is just not true... this is coming from an NBA fan who thinks Jordan's the goat.

Who great did MJ defend though? Look at his opposition in the playoffs and finals. Which of these was Jordan the main defender on? Bird - no Magic - for 1 game then Pippen Thomas - no Ewing - no Barkley - no Drexler - yes Kemp - no Payton - no, Payton guarded him for 3 games and did pretty well actually Malone - no Stockton - no Miller - yes MJ was a good defender but this notion that he always defended the other team's best and shut the best down is just not true. Usually Pippen took the other team's best perimeter player and Grant/Rodman took the other team's best post player.

Not really, people just forget that he got drafted in 84 and got his ass whooped for 6 years, then after the best players were done, Jordan started winning. Jordan wasn't the best when he played let alone all time.

Lebron is so boastful and overbearing when he declared he is the GOAT. MJ when asked who is the GOAT, he just mentioned several great players before him like Jabbar, Magic, Bird, Wilkes and others, and it would be a disrespect to them if he says he is the GOAT. Just a humble guy!!!. Btw, most of his peers would say he is the GOAT. I agree his Airness is the GOAT.

Yo same thing i was saying lebron is so arrogant, someone needs to quote the old saying "self praise is no praise". He had the nerve to say he is the best player ever....those words will haunt him forever. MJ will never be fogotten his moves were so so awesome
