--------
In this clip, Gary Payton recounted an incident with his good friend and former teammate Vernon Maxwell. After chirping back-and-forth during practice, Gary said things escalated to the point he armed himself with a 10 lb weight to hit Maxwell but ended up hitting Horace Grant instead, leaving him with a busted head.

This happened in late March of 2000. Newspapers reported it was Maxwell who threw the weight while Payton threw a chair. Both Horace Grant and Chuck Persons were injured while trying to separate them. Grant however only sat out 1 game which was a loss to the Spurs.

That's why when I hear all of this noise on how this era is tougher than this era. How many guys have been suspended or career has ended due to fighting? Or arrest? This is aggravated assault for the rest of us.
He's lucky he's not in prison for accidental murder. The only time you hit somebody with a weight is when you get attacked in a dark alley and you need to get home.
