Neville was offered two Premier League jobs and two Championship jobs, yet none of the black players from his era have been offered anything beyond bottom of the table 4 division club jobs. And people try act like there is no racism in English football. No wonder English coaches are so bad when it has nothing to do with merit all about what colour you are like an old boys network.

i actually love garry neville after this. he is one of the most professional poeple in football saying that the players gave him a 100% that he frustrated his coaching staff he is really honest in this interview

As a Valencia's supporter I am, it shows a great sincerity and honesty from Gary that not all managers who have trained Valencia C.F have admitted.

Dont know why everyone gives him such a hard time for it. Any one of us would jump at the chance to manage a club like Valencia if we had the badges to do so, especially if we had been involved in football for 20 years. He gave it a crack and failed. No different to the countless managers who fail at other clubs year in year out.

Honestly, Gary Neville just won a lot of respect off me for this. Such an articulate and analytical self-analysis. His ego is kept at bay and he truthfully explains his experience and the growth he's had to go through since. Props Gaz.

Such a detailed, interesting, well-produced interview. Gary Neville is such an honest, direct guy that it made this interview a whole lot better.

I like the way Gary conducts himself always honest, barely biased and level headed. A step above some of his colleagues.

Fascinating and brutally honest. It takes a certain type of person to face up to their failings and not pass the buck. My respect for Gary Neville just went waaaaaaaay up.

This is actually a fantastic listen to anyone even outside football - people. The things Gary explains about how failure affects a person (losing your confidence, going weak in important moments and becoming indecisive) are completely accurate and important to remember. To reverse the effects of failure it is very important to know how it affects your mentality and within it lies the key to combat it.

Massive credit to Neville from a huge Liverpool supporter here. His honesty is refreshing and it reminds us that we all fail but we have to learn the lessons from those mistakes.

Gary is such a humble guy. Love his approach to dealing with past failures. Top class and proof that you can learn from your mistakes and profit from them.

Brutally honest, self-critical and self-analytical both positively and negatively. It does take confidence to soul search like this. It's why he's actually been a huge success in most of what he's taken on in life. Love him or loathe him, you can't deny his intelligence and forthrightness. Really enjoyed this.

Incredible honesty and willingness to learn from “failure”. As an Englishman who grew up in Spain I knew the language barrier would be a big issue for him going in (coupled with inexperience). I’m glad Gary’s found his calling as a broadcaster though - He’s nothing short of brilliant at it!

Mad respect for opening up about it. In the past he’s been too biased for me but he’s really growing on me, class act!

Gary Neville has become one of my favourite commentators across all Sports. He speaks with such honesty passion and clarity on everything from themes related to Football directly to the political and social realm and also to the psychological individual sphere. Great work.

The courage it must take to take on a job like that has to be mentioned. Very self reflective with no mention of who let him down or who added to his time being so difficult. As a football fan who has watched Gary throughout his playing career and tv work for the last twenty plus yrs I find it a bit upsetting to see how he was treated yet all he can talk about is how it was all his fault and how he failed to train, organise, coach, communicate etc. Great guy and we’re lucky to have him represent our game and our country.

Love Gary's frankness and honesty here. As a Liverpool fan, I used to hate him but he is hands down the best thing on sky

Essential listening for anyone interested in top level football and theories of management. What a. cogent, intelligent sportsman! @Sky has a gem. Entirely superb!

Gary's openness and honesty is so refreshing. That Simone part has got me thinking, as to why he would do such a thing.

in this video, Neville explains so many good things that you need to do to run a business, or manage a team etc. it's a shame (for him) that he didn't adhere to those (as he admits), but you can tell that it has made him a better leader, businessman, manager etc, and he wont make that mistake again. i think this video is a must for any business owner and/or footy fan.

Acceptance and Honesty! Got to give Gary credit. Not much people admit their insecurities/failures for all to see, with NO excuses. Salute✊

Never had a problem with failing at Valencia. Only have a problem with the inconsiderate criticism of Wenger and other managers: “Wenger is naive.....” “Mourinho is clueless....” etc, etc. It took him working as a manager to really understand the work it entails to be a manager.

This is nearly a year old, but must say it is a lesson learner, not just in football, but in other career moves that have not worked for one reason or another. Thanks for this, loved it as I resembled with it in the middle of lockdown. Top stuff you both 👍🏼

Great interview. So much to learn from in terms of being down in the dumps and low on confidence. Throw in moving to a new country with a different culture. So much to unpack. I love that story he tells of being slowly strangled by Simeone. I am going to really dissect this interview for my own benefit. In completely different way but I have lived this experience and recovery is so important.

I would really love it if Gary speaks with one of his ex players like Andre Gomes about their time in Valencia.

When Neville talked about being outclassed that honestly made me a little scared too. I mean imagine how frightening that would be. The man standing what is it 10 yards away from you is actively managing the game 3 steps ahead of you, you bloody know it, and there's absoultely nothing you can do about it. I remember it being the perfect recipe for Disaster. 1. Valencia's massive decline due to an incompetent president ( Peter Lim) and board. Selling their best players and youngsters. (They still have that same board that sacked Marcelino who took them from relegation battle to top 4 and won them the Copa Del Rey. He got sacked because of a slow start in the season after 5 games (2 wins,2 losses and 1 draw) and because of disagreements). 2. Unhapppy fans and a toxic atmosphere at the club 3. Gary's lack of experience as a coach.

@@briane5706 True they sacked Marcelino at the start of the season and are managed by a caretaker manager at the moment. Well they had alot of key players missing over those 2 games and in the last couple of weeks to be fair. Their starting 2 CBs Paulista and Garay. Missed their starting 2 ST Rodrigo and Gameiro, Cillesen GK and Guedes and Soler starting wingers missed the first leg. They've also lost 3-0 to Getafe, 4-1 to bottom table Mallaroca, 3-0 to Sociedad. And they are currently 7th. But Valencia really were improving under Marcelino going from bottom table to back to back top 4 finishes. To bad they're run by idiots.

Valencia still are in the same postion or are they doing better than they were few years back?

@@MyNameIsKhan25 They finished 4th the season before Gary was appointed and were in the Champions League. 8 months later they were batteling relegation.

@@MyNameIsKhan25 today they are 7th with their former succesful manager Marcelino sacked in September. The to seasons prior they finished 4th twice and played in the Champions League. Now they seem to be going down again.
