Gary's in his spaceship, ready to take off. He's one of those unearthly musicians
Gary was the absolute guitar master! The best guitarist ever to walk this earth! This video is indisputable proof. This was in fact Gary's second encore of the evening. Just imagine that if the audience hadn't demanded more then this absolutely brilliant guitar playing would not have been captured. Oh and by the way, that is in fact Andy Pyle on bass! 😊😎🎸

I was scrolling around and stumbled on this, first time hearing it. If there's anything above ''masterclass'' this is it, this is the best instrumental i've EVER heard and believe me I have heard some great ones.!! The emotion in this is unparalleled.!! R.I.P Gary. !!

It's only an instrumental as far as there's no actual words to the song but, that guitar was singing.
The Messiah may come again but will we ever see the likes of Gary Moore again? A God and Legend of the guitar if I ever saw or heard one.

The best thing about this song is that the guitar is telling a story. She speaks, screams, cries and in the end she dies. And I think there's no one better in the world to do that on a guitar than Gary Moore. Not only in this song, but also the Prophet is another display of feeling and many other solos that he has in his career.

This is my first time really focusing on Moore’s technique and feel. Holy shit. Jeff Beck is always spoken of with awe for his chops, but I don’t think he has anything over Moore after having watched this. This is the technical chops of Beck, or Satrioni, with the passion and soul of Vai or Santana, or Page or Gilmore. I am blown away!

Why those strings are not smoking is a mystery to me. What a great performance from a master. Thank you for this.
Greeny is called Greeny because Gary Moore named it that in honour of Peter Green. And that is Greeny on the screen. For me Gary is untouched in the guitar world, his combination of technicality and soul is just sublime.

But seriously, have you watched a Roy Buchanan video? Watch the Austin City Limits video. Remember its the 70's and he's playing straight from his Tele to his amp - no effects or other electronic assistance.
The guitar in this video is indeed greeny and now owned by Kirk Hammett. And Gary always used to say because of the wider neck, it ain’t the easiest Les Paul to play. So if you take that into account, it makes this performance even more special

Gary Moore could do it all. Every style of rock music you can imagine. He was always a natural talent when it came to Blues guitar playing but his years of Jazz-fusion with Colosseum II is what really turned him into a monster player. By the time he rejoined Thin Lizzy for the 3rd (and final) time in 1978, Moore was easily one of the very best guitarists in the world.

Gary Moore had more grit, passion, and emotion in his guitar playing than anyone has ever had. The fact that rolling stone magazine doesn't even have Gary Moore in the top 100 for guitar players is a complete joke! Gary is better than anyone on the top 100 list. They also totally blow it by ranking SRV at 12th and even more absurd is ranking Rory Gallagher at 57th. Gary, Rory, and Stevie are all no worse than top 5 all-time!
Thanks for this. I have seen GM in Montreaux before - but not this song. It is not necessary for the interminable debates. There are many great guitarists - all are unique and cannot be compared. It is just for us to appreciate them all. GM is one of the best and will surely be missed - and this is one of the best. Thanks again.

@@TheThamesmen The essence of the guitar led instrumental are similar. Roy plays a Telecaster while Gary is playing a Les Paul. The Tele has thinner sound and lacks the heaviness and depth of a Les Paul. Roy's solo is mostly based in the melody and lacks the dynamics and soulfulness/feel displayed by Gary. Don't get me wrong Roy is no slouch on the guitar, but Gary's chops, arrangement, and soulfulness just takes the song to another level where only eagles fly.

This was scintillating guitar work.
