Oh for crying out loud, we always get this when there's a new version of anything from the 60s, 70s or 80s. The only reason you think it's "not as good as the original" is nostalgia... I think it's very, very good. Gary Barlow does a fantastic job stepping up to a big plate.

The fact that this is on radio currently and has rekindled the love of war of the worlds for many people is satisfying enough for me. To be honest im not a massive gary barlow/take that fan but he has proven that he can write music himself and hes sold millions of records so... for a man of that calibre to do a cover is fine with me! As a HUGE fan of war of the worlds I LOVE IT!

I love the original version of TWOTW I remember being a kid and my Dad used to play the original vinyl and I would sit there listening to the album looking at the pictures of the artwork in the book, I love the TWOTW new generations too as it appeals to us oldies and the young'uns who can identify with Liam Neeson, Gary Barlow, Joss Stone, Ricky Wilson. Barlow is cool as the sung voice of the journalist, however my favourite is still A Brave New World.

hello people .. here we are a few weeks on from the seeing the new version, and you know what? .. i loved it .. i wasnt really expecting to enjoy it as much as i did .. pellow sang the classic and done a great job .. both my son, and i, came out of the show very happy .. having seen both old and new now i can say i am still in love with the stage show of both .. i knew the boss wouldn't let his creation down by letting it fall flat on its face .. and it, or he, didnt .. awesome show

Gary is known for having an extraordinary voice live, let alone if it's recorded. No need for auto tune.

And I thought the original was amazing... Gary's voice is just angelic on this... Seriously in love with this version. Beautiful and modern-ish.

The original will always be one of my favourite songs and it's still the better version, but I think Gary's voice has done it justice.

I agree with you, I have always loved the Hayward version but I was gobsmacked when i heard this new version, I love the way Barlow performs the "like the wind through the trees" bit, modernized for once sounds great!

Ooooooo Mr Barlow....You sing this like you're in a Karaoke bar. Am always open to someone doing a cover, but Justin Haywood's original can never be beaten.

When I think on it, there might be something to the fact a number of we Moody Blues fans have heard Justin sing this in settings outside WOTW. I guess I should account for that in my thoughts, So maybe it's not just nostalgia. It's a song with a life outside it's original place. That said I applaud your giving them fair shake and making your stand. That's what will make this new version stand on it's own.

Don't think I've heard the original Jeff Wayne version, but only the cover Justin Haywood did for Jeff Wayne's musical. Love this song and forgot all about it until I heard Barlow's cover. Good job man.

Gary Barlow does an amazing job on this (even If the Justin Hayward one is untouchable) and his voice is perfect for this :D Even though I grew up with the original, I just can't get over what a great job Garry has done. simply amazing

it seems a few people on here have the wrong end of the stick Gary barlow was invited to guest star on this new interpretation of jeff waynes war of the worlds along with all the other new artists, also this album and new gen concert have been in production for a few years if you have seen any of the recent interviews with Jeff Wayne, I personally only have one gripe and that is gary saying drawring instead of drawing but I think I can live with that due to the fantastic job Jeff has done l

I personally think this version is composed more eloquently. The original is more rugged and edgy, but this version will allow it to reach a new, modern, audience.

Actually like this version... in fact the more I listen to the rest of the album I'm (Slowly) being won over... unsure I'd buy it tho... Im one of those purist banging on about the good old days of music and that its not the same ect ect... but having said all that hope this brings the album to a new generation so they can enjoy it as mutch as i did

I don't know the original (don't blame me, I'm not British!), but I fell in love with this song because of Gary's voice, which, by the way, is not bland at all. I can't say whether the original is better or not, but this version is wonderful and I feel no need of looking for another one.

Im not a huge fan of Barlow's genre of music but these complaints in the comments are a real stretch. He is a great singer and can emote very well. Let's face it, it is exceptionally rare that a cover version bests the original and this is not the case. It is however a new rendition of the song for a new generation. Barlow did a very good job and has probably gone some way into bringing the iconic (to me at least) War of the Worlds musical to an audience that would have otherwise not heard it.
