Was just reading Judd's book 'It's Garry Shandling's Book' and noticed this clock on page 1 sitting on Garry's shelf along with his most prized awards from his career. Still set on 1:07 PM.

Hey, isn't this a souvenir of Shandling's resolve to do + keep doing 'Larry Sanders'? - He was offered the Letterman type gigs and turned them down as Sanders was a hit by its first year of 6. Maybe he took the clock as a symbol of stopping time on the easy gig?

Thank you so much for posting this Mr. Giller! Seriously I was a comedy nerd and was close to knowing it. Was already a big Dave fan, loved IGGSS and had seen a few L Sanders shows and was bt freshman and sophomore years of college when this aired. I had the whole Letterman episode on VHS but somehow lost it over the years.

Remembered the clock thing, and have heard since then that NBC wanted the late brilliant Garry Shandling and Dana Carvey for the spot. Thankfully they both turned it down (and David Brenner's name never came up) and the world is all the better for the foresight of Lorne Michaels and his insistence of Conan O'Brien being the right man for the job.

I had no idea Shandling was up for Dave's replacement. I missed that somehow. It would have been a great idea. Dave and then Garry. Shandling was really funny and a good interviewer as he demonstrated on the Tonight show. Carvey wasn't a bad choice either but Shandling for sure. Too bad we never got to see that happen. Such a shame what happened. One very likeable guy. A good friend of Tom Petty's whom he sadly died within months of by chance.
