Garrett HATES It But Knows He HAS To!
Garrett Adelstein is a regular in the high stakes cash games on Hustler Casino Live. Today his opponent is a newcomer to the show who is just named as Tim and he has a mystery poker hand!
Jonathan talks about what range of hands like to re-raise preflop when playing deep stacked out of position; decent suited connectors fall in this category which is exactly the hand that Garrett ‘Gman’ Adelstein has in this poker hand.
If you are only using the strongest hands to re-raise with preflop then you do not have a decent board coverage when the flop contains low cards. As you get deeper stacked you will want to be using a wider range of hands to 3-bet with.
As a poker player you have likely run into a fair few bad beats in your time at the poker tables. But has it ever happened in two run outs in the same hand?
Jonathan Little analyzes live poker hands from TV poker shows such as Poker After Dark, Hustler Casino Live, The Lodge Poker Club & PokerGO. He also analyzes popular poker vloggers such as Rampage Poker, Brad Owen, Jaman Burton, Ashley Sleeth, Wolfgang Poker and others!
You will also find many poker hands on this channel that contain some of the biggest names in the poker world such as; Daniel Negreanu, Phil Hellmuth, Phil Ivey, Doug Polk, Garrett Adelstein, Tom ‘Durrrr’ Dwan, Dan ‘Jungleman’ Cates, Fedor Holz & many more!

What do YOU think Tim has when he check jams the turn? (No cheating! 😜) a) Three of a kind b) Strong pair c) Strong draw d) Junky draw

AJ suited!!! Yes I called it. You look at the board and what would make you think you had it? Top pair of Js with the best kicker. Other than the flush draw, only a set of 3-4-10s are better. And only 10s are likely. So why wouldn't you think Ad-Jd is best? I can see why he wanted twice, if flush draw hits, it likely won't hit twice.

@@khalidalshammari3566 Huh? If someone bets a 3-bet pre-flop,. don't you assume they missed a 10-9-4 flop? It was also only a $2000 bet. It's not like he jammed with A high. On the turn he was actually 84% to win overall. And 72%-28% to win with Garrett's cards. His play was fine. He was certainly justified in calling the 3-bet preflop with AJ suited. Just a bad beat.
please do more of these mystery hand video's. Makes me think!
"I know, effective nuts... but your still putting ur money in" ahaha love it
Probably has a fair amount of sets and two pairs if his double flatting range are things that flop well, that said KQ and even AK and AQ are potential draws here and suited connector type hands also make sense in a double flat range and are pretty much all at least gut-shots. With the 9h Garrett does block some of the combo draws but there are still a lot of draws available and the board is not great for the 3-better range. I'd be reasonably surprised if he was doing this with an over-pair though because 1) QQ+ tends not to double flat 2) they are usually not the sort of hands that want to check shove.
I thought about this a lot. Pocket 3s or 4s probably don't want to play for all the money, but he might have one of those. He's unlikely to have pocket Js since we block those - maybe pocket tens, though I think he raises with those most of the time. Strong pairs like Aces, Kings, or Queens are almost certainly re-raising, so we can discount those too. He could have a flush draw though we block that. To me I think a likely set of hands is Ax, with the Ace of hearts flush blocker. Ah5x makes a LOT of sense as he'd have straight outs and block flush draws.

Please explain to me why there was second river? is it some kind of agreement between two players or what?
@EfficientRVer

Yes
Does nobody notice the turn and river were J-4 and see the irony????
My guess was J10 diamonds or AJ with the A of hearts. I know nothing about Tim but the flop call and turn jam made me lean towards top of his range (AJ). If he’s a rec, they tend to overplay top pair by protecting w/ large bets that aren’t necessarily for value? But even if Garret had KQ of hearts, he’s never folding. So I don’t see the point in the check-jam.
I was thinking either JTs or KQ or maybe a small set. Maybe even AQ💕 or QJ💎.
Jonathon, what's your take on gut-shots. You said he wouldn't shove with a gut shot. Following DNegs a lot with his stream play, I noticed the guy really values a gut shot. Often making big raises with one. Which really shocked me because I always thought of gut-shots as totally worthless, i.e. you need 1 of 4 cards with low odds.

He raises those as a bluff
@jakeleach1997
Жыл бұрын
Generally, you want to raise with draws that have little showdown as they are as a bluff. That's why the A high flush draw is sometimes not raised, as A high has some showdown. If you balance your bluffing range with some massive draws - i.e. 9Tss on Js8s2d with some gutters, you'll be much harder to play against. Especially if you also fastplay your sets, and 2 pair combos.

If Garrett and Airball are to your immediate left and you have an excuse to leave...
Why would you reload when you got a very competent rungooder to your immediate left?
He has to have something like AJo or AJs pretty strong hand in this spot but still lot of scary cards there. Not lot of sets I think, sometimes maybe trashy draw hands but not so likely
8:30 - Tim tables his hand and says what he has. Garrett does not table his hand, and when asked by Tim, he shows his hand to Tim without tabling it. He also shields it from the other players. Why did he do this? Is he wanting to avoid giving the other players at the table information about his hand? If so, why is he showing it to Tim?
Loved the "maybe suited Aces" comment. Pretty funny................ had to comment
Tim's range is pretty merged because of stack depth and the sensible price being laid (2/1). Tim can and will have all the types of hands Jon mentions, but probably not many junky draws. I think this is a fold, because 1. we don't beat any value, 2. we lose sometimes when we get there, 3. the 9h is a terrible card in terms of blocking bluffs, 4. there are plenty of strong draws that would want to take this line, so Tim should shy away from this line with (say) Q8 clubs.

EDIT: I forgot he only needs 25% equity to call, lol, its an easy call.
I'm a big fan of Garrett's play, however I noticed a tell in him I see in many players with marginal or weak holdings. Over observation, trying to find a read in his opponent. When players are stronger, they're more focused on being hard to read, not on reading their opponent.
I think he is on AJ with ace of hearts or KJspades maybe somewhere around there
Crazy. I put him on exactly AJ. Likely suited since he called the 3 bet out of position. Hard to put him on that if your Garrett and holding a jack, but couldn’t imagine he would be doing that with much else. Thought he could also have a huge combo draw like KQhh, but he may have 4 bet that preflop in hopes of taking down the pot preflop instead of playing a big hand out of position.
Should dude be check raising the flop here with top pair and a flush draw on board?
I think he has AJ .... with the ace of heart as a blocker....or KJ with the K ❤️ Blocker....
AJs of diamond? how can he not 3b pre with Gman behind. i was almost certain he got 45 of spade.
If you are playing against Garret I think it's fine to leave at any time. :)

Not factoring in cards that were folded pre-flop... On the first river, 12 of the 44 unknown cards were good for him. On the second river, 11 of the remaining 43 were outs. (12/44) x (11/43) = 7%.

What’s it like to run that good garret?!
I'd probably get up from the game too, rather than sit with Garret directly on my left all night.
I think he has a strong draw. I don't think the stronger hands would snap all-in like that, especially against someone like Garrett who could be bluffing in any spot. To me this screams that he wants us to fold, but he likely has sufficient equity in his hand that he's not dead in the water if he gets called. Something like KQ of spades. So I call, thinking I'm likely ahead right now. [Watch the rest] ...and I'm completely wrong! Oh well.
Sucks that Garret had to act like he did. I really liked him.
Two pair J-10
Watching Garrett on his heaters is reminiscent of watching those sketchy online “players” stack everyone at their table over and over and over again in spots where they are dominated. You know the ones I’m talking about. The mysterious online players who have a literal 100% win rate at their cash game table or in the tournament. The ones who sit there and don’t ever chat or use any of the emojis and appear to be psychic, as they will fold for a bit and seem selective with their starting hands, then randomly decide to call another big stacks 4 bet jam that’s worth around 100BBs and at least half their stack with Q5 off and the all in player shows them KK when the chips go in. Flop comes AK4. Turn 3. River 2…..
either 10 10 or over pair

So u need 2 mill to play this comfy? 100 buyins?
The guy in the hat has to have a big hand because Garrett basically effectively is short stacked against his stack. He's getting pot odds basically no matter what he reasonably has to call. The guy in the hat must have a big hand
Yep therunout does not matter. if you had it in good you are a champion.
i meant diamonds
Most players don’t re-raise with nothing.. if he put him on a draw why would he do that… he could have AK❤️’s also Garret could have a set… Tim made the wrong play
Set of 4
I would put him on an overpair at this point, maybe too 2, But then I would remember that I’m Garrett and I’ll get there so I call

I think it’s funny how Garrett portrayed himself as this little quiet guy who doesn’t mean any harm and then, as soon as you get into a hand with him, he turns into a super card, bully and tries to block the shit out of you almost every single time. And then the one time he gets called out as BS just because the other person didn’t have a super great, and he gets to accuse them of cheating, he gets almost 150 grand back and then just takes his ball and goes home. They even did an investigation they found no cheating so basically he’s just a poor sport and won’t even return the money that he fairly lost. Lost a lot of respect for that guy. No, this was before that
aace jack hearts
I think Tim has a strong but vulnerable hand like AJss or KJdd, and he doesn’t want to get outdrawn. Against these kinds of hand, Garrett has 9 heart outs, and 3x 9s. He could be up against JTs which would be unfortunate, or even 44 (way less likely). But against top pairs he has 12 outs = about 27%. Against KQ he is ahead so that’s gonna over-balance out the 2pair and odd sets in Tim’s range. Let’s say he has overall 30-40% vs Tim’s range. He has to call 17.5 to win 53 so he needs about 33% equity. It’s a near-0 EV decision I figure. So it’s going to be all about Garrett’s read on Tim-and I see him eyeing Tim both when he called the flop and when he raised the turn-as well as what type of player Tim is. If Tim has been overbluffing, it’s a call. If Tim is a super nit, maybe he can fold, and if something in between, it’s kind of a coin-flip, unless he can get a specific live tell off of Tim… leaning toward a call
When Garrett doesn't run go, he calls them a cheater.
Garrett somehow tried to ask for his money back sometime after the conclusion of the hand
