Garrett ACE 250 Metal Detector Review - Beginner Machine Guide for Metal Detecting

Ойын-сауық

Last year I dug $186.43 in modern coins alone. This doesn't include silver coins, old coins, foreign coins, or coins not made anymore. It also doesn't include all the rings, charms, buttons, buckles, colonial artifacts, or other relics I found; just the modern coins you could roll up and take to the bank, $186.43.
I tell you this because metal detecting might seem like an expensive hobby to get into up front, but it's a hobby that over time can easily pay for itself and then some. But in case you can't afford a $1,000 machine, or a $500 machine, or even a $300 machine; I scoured the internet to track down every machine I can get my hands on that retails for $186.43 or less (okay, I kinda bumped it to $199.99 or less) so I can do a review and go over the features on it so you can see what different machines are out there that each cost less than what an average detectorist can make back in modern coins alone in just one year!
This weeks review will feature the Garrett Ace 250 metal detector and shows everything from an unboxing, assembly, review or all its features, and then some tests so you can hear the sounds, see its depth, and everything else it has to offer to see if it might become your first treasure hunting machine!
You can purchase the detector at the following link which always helps support the channel:

Hi Quarter Hoarder. The Ace250 was my second metal detector. Boy o boy it really pays for itself in no time. I have the best time with this particular model of Garrett metal detector. I have had it for about six years now and I am NOT disappointed. Metal detecting is my best hobby. I really enjoy it whenever I get the chance. Thank you for your great video.

Now I know more of how it works and how to adjust it. My wife wants me to go down to the river where all the rafters stop for lunch and hunt that area. Sounds good to me!

I'm doing the same. Found a 250 at a pawn shop here in Elkton, MD. They, also, had a Garrett AT pinpointer. The detector came with a bag and headphones. I paid less than $200 for both. The detector looks brand new. The pinpointed is well used. Going to be taking it out in our yard today while I'm smoking our turkey for Thanksgiving.

I have a Garrett Ace 250 and generally it's a very good detector for the price. The interface is very easy to use, it uses AA batteries, it has a good audio tone that draws attention to more interesting finds. I use it mostly on the beach. I also have a knock off pro pointer (which is awesome actually) for finding stuff in the spoil. I was on a beach today with it and found a (functioning!) Airpod charge case of all things. But the detector does have faults - the beep lags after the signal which on a sweep is too long. Also the discriminator can get very confused not knowing what it's found. I find the pin pointer kind of useless - the ring has a notch but whatever I dig up is never there. It can also beep when it bumps the ground which is annoying. Things which all lead to false positive situations. So overall it's good but not without it's faults. I think it's a very good detector for people who want a detector that offers a good bang for buck and has a decent discriminator. IMO it's one of the cheapest "proper" detectors instead of the junk that occupies lower price points. I was looking at the Ace 300 and IMO I don't see a whole lot of difference in the two in terms of appearance or functionality.

Thanks for all the info, I've always wanted one, and for Xmas my sister bought her boyfriend ( sound guy ) he got a dr oteck, think it was 160,and 30 for the small hand held one, around 200 bucks all in, works under water too. Can you tell me what would you buy for a first timer and some fun, but again I drive a Toyota corolla, in my opinion their the best car out there, won't stop. But does it tell you how deep they can detect, are there any metal detectors that just will tell you what youve detected in writing, like, Gold,Silver, Steel etc extra 100 or so on a better one, so if there is any advice yo could pass on to me ild be greatful. Thanks.

@@Whatever-gv3gq Yes, I had to lean to pin point by sound and by the coil because it doesn't have pin point on it. I now use it for the grandkids and people I take out that has never detected before. It was a easy move to the Max in 8 months after starting to detect. I took the max over the the yard and found even more things that the Ace missed. I got a big coil for max and found a few things in the yard after it had been gone over a few times with the Ace and the Max.

@@Whatever-gv3gq Yes I would recommend one to start with. Then move up to a better one later. It is simple and easy to be up and detecting with no learning at all. Like I said you have to learn to pin point with the coil and the sound. Which is a good thing I think. I still use that way at times over using the pin point on the Max. You would still need a pin pointer so I got the Garrett carrot at the same time and a Garrett hand digging tool. But some just use the coil on the detector and hand full of dirt. I just think it easier to use the pin pointer in a yard that way you don't bust up the plug. In a few days you can't even tell where you dug.

I bought a second hand Garrett Ace 250 , It didn't have an owners manual. Question how do I open the battery department, to change the battery's?

You should visit me, people have lived here for 10,000 years. The Vikings were here so there may by some buried gold. I borrowed a metal detector and found a lot of WW11 gun cartridges and a 1933 silver shilling. There were military bases here in both world wars. The first German plane shot down in WW11 crashed about a mile away from my house. the only downside is that there is a lot of naturally occurring iron in the soil. Happy hunting!

I want one that actually tells you what you’re detecting😂 as you go over the target a voice will be like “GOLD” “GOLD” “GOLD”

I have one of these. You can set it for just gold. It won't yell out gold but it's nice to know you aren't looking for nonsense.

My con's on this machine are - no VDI (but I understand the x00 series does) and no volume control.

When looking for a new machine. I wanted a Garrett. Looked at the 250. But went for the 200. Why you ask ? The only thing i saw was the 200 had the ID number. Thanks again Quarter !

I need to know about the tree? Were you chasing the proverbial money that grows on them, or was it a silver spruce?

How many hours a week do you spend out in the field? I have a cheap metal detector and want to upgrade, but I can't justify the expense given how often I get out to dig.

The Simplex goes for $ 230 so you should put this in. It is so superior to any of these other machines for a few dollars more . So when you slipped in the Garrett you opened the door
