Based on this the extra pacing features etc not of interest to me but for the sake of slightly more comfort on the strap, slightly quicker GPS pickup, slightly better battery life, the 55 sounds worth the extra outlay. The other thing I think I read somewhere is the 55 has more custom look and feel to the text whereas the 45 only can do downloadable alternate race faces. Is this correct?

My 45 has come to the end of its life today whilst running today switched itself off , I had ran 6 miles as it came up as I had before saving i saved it and it went off once it came back on told me I had ran 5.98 gps is not great and battery life is not good now either lasts around 3 days also walk setting wouldn’t work so I’ve invested in the 55 👍

I am going to take back the forerunner 55, replace it with a 45. and save some money. I wish I could just get a replacement forerunner 35, but I can't find one new.

does strava work on them please?

Need more time to read the tables on the screen. Hard to read both tables especially the first one. I would add 5 seconds to each to allow easy reading. But overall great info and thanks for reviewing both watches.

Got the 55 in June and the battery lasts longer than advertised. I’m currently 3 weeks on this charge and have 10% left. I turn all notifications off tho

You really should lead with "55 has double the battery life".

I don't think any of them has the Trail running activity so I would probably look at the FR245 or a used Fenix 5.

What you recommend as the best “bang for your buck” running watch. I have an Apple Watch for personal life but just want a good value running watch for workouts.

No it won't . To use Runtastic you'll need a smartwatch / watch that runs apps. So you're looking at Apple Watch, Samsung etc.

It looks like the forerunner 55 is 1 gram heavier than the 45. The 55 weighs 37 grams, the 45 weighs 36 grams.

So the 45 is underrated against the 55, not really a lot to rave about the 55 just some travails.
