I Did Exactly What My Running Watch Told Me For A Month And This Is What Happened

Спорт

Sometimes planning your runs can end up taking just as long as the run itself, so what about if you handed over the planning to your watch?
The Running Channel’s Sarah spent 30 days following daily suggested workouts on the brand new Garmin Forerunner 55 watch. Did she get fitter? How easy is it to follow? Watch to find out.

    Have used programs i connection with marathon training, and I had been really great. What abou following a longer program 3-4 months, where you get VO2 max and all thoes thinges messerured before and after. Then make a short follow every week, about the week, and next weeks program. Toward a fast 1/2 marathon!

  • @rogerbergua6268
    @rogerbergua62682 жыл бұрын

    It seems that most of the training was done at or below the ventilatory threshold (low intensity runs), with some work outs getting into the lactate threshold (aka tempo/threshold run). It seems to follow the 80% low intensity, 20% moderate/high intensity distribution that has been giving so many good results to recreational and elite runners. Way to go!

  • @rogerbergua6268

    I like to keep it simple. In my opinion, there is no need to overcomplicate things. The 80% low intensity, 20% moderate/high intensity works. The 80% builds up the aerobic base (your engine) and the 20% is used to tune the engine to perform when it's necessary. Similar approaches are used in other sports with very good results (e.g., cycling). I hope that helps!

    Agreed. There is so much capability buried within my watch that I am not using. I have had to turn off many of it's "features" because I found some of them demotivating and also that I cannot really work out what the benchmark is. For instance, when it says your fitness age is ... (mine is apparently ten years younger than my actual age) what is this comparing against? Also, the blood oxygen measurement always read low against my finger monitor that I have so that has been permanently disabled too. And hr: I find that without the chest strap the hr reading are erratic and inconsistent when running. I always run with a chest strap now. It would be good to have content showing step by step how to use lots of these metrics for best effect but also how to do things such as putting plotted courses into the watch for navigation when out in unfamiliar places. A mini series of how to use your Garmin to best effect perhaps? As channel sponsors I am pretty sure that Garmin would like numpties like myself to get more out of our devices, no? 🙂

    I just discovered your channel, and I absolutely love it! I've just gotten myself a forerunner 245, and I intend to do what the watch says as well to see what happens. I mean, I am in terrible shape after 1 year of basically doing nothing, so it really can't get worst. 🤣🤣🤣

    Well, I am happy to report that it actually helps. 😅 It takes dedication at first, an sometimes I really didn't wanna do what the watch suggested... But it is true that, in general, it helped me running smarter: slower sometimes, doing the warm-up and the cool down, introducing interval training some days...

    I’ve done this for 4 months solid. Big gains in VO2max and it feels like a plan so keeps you motivated. Right up until it gave me sprints just over a week ago and I injured my hamstrings. I had 6 days off and it’s changed the suggestion to match my recent training. Managed to do 20K over the weekend, but the legs are suffering again.

    After watching this video, I purchased the 245 (which was actually cheaper than the 55 at the time due to black Friday deals) and absolutely love it. This video really spiked my interest in the daily suggested workouts and loved the idea of the watch calculating these all on its own, based on recent activity etc. Have been using for nearly 2 weeks and received my first suggestion yesterday. Really looking forward to seeing where this takes me! Great video as always!

    Thank you for this amazing review! I have watched several Garmin watch reviews on KZread but this is the first time I've seen the watch in action and it is awesome! The main things they always touch on is accuracy and oh by the way it has Garmin coach. This video has set my decision to go with Garmin in concrete. Again, thank you for your hard work, dedication, and honesty about each run. I totally get the I'm not feeling it today and how rewarding it is to persevere.

    As a 76 year old jog/walker, I love this channel. I have been running since 1973 and ran my first complete marathon in 1976. Due to a hip and groin injury two years ago and the lack of races and poor training on my part during the pandemic, I have not completed more tha a 10k (a slow jog/walk in Honolulu in December) in the last 3 months. My training and workouts have been sporadic. I want to get back to training and hopefully your videos will inspire me to work up to really running again. I didn't even realize their were training programs on my Garmin until I watched this video. When I went to Garmin connect all that I could access were biking programs and there is only one run workouts. I have a Garmin 235 and recently got a Garmin 735XT because my 235 was getting old and the battery storage with GPS was less than I needed for marathons. How do I access the training program used in this video?

    If anyone finds helpful - in addition to using pace and heart rate as noted, there is a 3rd option. If you pair your Garmin with a heart rate strap, you can use running power as well. I find this to be a great metric because there's no effort data lag time waiting for your heart rate to catch up with the effort. 😃
