965 is $1000 here in Australia, which I believe is around $680 or so USD. massive rip off, great watch but definitely not even close to worth that price.

Know the feeling friend . I have the Fenix 7 and love it , but even after almost 6 month's with it , the weight and heft of it I find still noticeable so I've preordered the 965 for its lighter weight so it will feel more comfortable to sleep with it on 😅

Great review, thank you! Although its a lot (as you say :)). But I'm currently thinking between the two so the video helps me a lot! BTW: Do you know if there is any watch where you can get access to the raw sensor measurements and that you can use in conjunction with open street map?

I tried these on at a local shop and noticed that the 965 was considerably bigger than the 265 physically. In the video they look almost the same size but it felt at least 30% larger in reality. I was about to buy the 965 based on online research but it was so bulky I ended up going for the 265.

It really depends which day you were at the store.. on tuesdays in feels smaller. on fridays it feels cooler... i dont know about the other days yet

Did you really compare the 265 or was it possibly the 265S? The 265 is 46.1 x 46.1mm while the 965 is 47,1 x 47,1mm, so this should not feel like a 30% difference. However, the 265S is 41.7 x 41.7mm, so it would be comprehensible that it feels 30% smaller than the 965.

Awesome review! A couple quick questions as I am a triathlete who also happens to have pretty significant vision loss. what are your thoughts on the screen in bright sunlight? I have the 735 which is good in sunlight, but bad in low light, I feel this new display type may be a bit of the opposite? As I currently have Apple Watch and I’m guessing these two new screens would be fairly similar in lighting conditions? also any chance on testing the audio announcement feature of workouts when paired to Bluetooth headphones? In line keep up the great work.

I just upgraded from Venu 2s to 965, and loving the map navigation. Went out for a run with some friends, easily transferred the course they created to my watch and used the map on my 965 to guide me through the unfamiliar route much like waze. Awesome feature to have! Granted the 965 may seem bulky for smaller wrists (including mine tbh 😆) but the titanium bezel makes it passeable to wear with any kind of dress code, not too sporty looking for me which I like. I got used to the size after a while, and the larger Amoled screen is definitely great for quick glances during runs.

What's your wrist size? I wanted the 965 as well, but the 265 seems to be a better fit for my 5.5in wrist.

Was looking at the Fenix, so extremely happy with the 965 option.

Thx for the nice videos. I have a question about the data fields. Both the 265 and the 965 have the option for three datafields without text. Just the three lines of numbers. Question: are the numbers bigger in this layout on the 965 than on the 265, because of the bigger screen? Or are they the same height, despite the bigger screen? I am asking because I have trouble reading the numbers without my reading glasses. Bigger would be a big plus! Thx!

Damn. They got me on the 965 with the golf gps.. That's a feature I had to buy a whole seperate watch for. Definitely could've been implemented into the 265

Thanks for the amazing review! I just got my 265 and I found a very annoying thing about the workout upload. Even though the watch face has HIIT but I am not able to upload any HIIT categorized workout, is this behavior expected?

I’ve got the venu2 but looking to get another garmin watch that’s better, but I would ideally like one that’s touchscreen and not really bulky, would you say the 965 is a better version to the venu2 or would you say another watch? I want to stay on the garmin platform. And I mainly do walking, cardio, cycling and swimming. Thinking of starting to run though. Thanks in advance des and keep up the brilliant videos 👍

I think I would like to upgrade due to the awesome new anoled panels. I had a 245M and upgraded to a 745 mainly because I could customize the behavior of the hardware buttons on the watch. I have small wrists and in general the 265s would suit my needs perfectly. The open question is: will it finally be able to change the buttons behavior like 745 upwards? 😄

Just ordered the 965 a few days ago, having used my 645 Music for 6 years. Excited for the upgrade. Everything points to amazing in comparison. One thing that can always be a little deceiving with these, is that some features, as you mentioned once, do require you to have your phone on you. When I run, I never ever carry my cell phone on me. So some features are eliminated for me, but I’m always confused as to which. Some things are preloaded on to the watch, and certain things come off the satellite connection. So…🤷🏻‍♂️. Good video. If I could make one suggestion though. Please slow down your speech. I made it through, but I had a headache after from trying to process everything so quickly. I’ve run into this with a few other creators’ videos on this watch too. Maybe it’s just an over-caffeinated triathlete thing. But I’m that too, and still take a breath every few seconds.

Feels about the same to me. No complaints. Sometimes if there is a lot of detailed map data it can take a moment to redraw but the same thing can be said for the Fenix 7 and Epix.

The battery is the number 1 reason that I would purchase 965 over 265. Secondary reason is maps for hiking (although I have an Alt Trails subscription), so maybe maps is not really required.

Great review Des. Do you notice any difference in comfort between the regular 265 and the 965 in terms of wearability?

Hi there! I also have a Garmin 245 and I’m thinking of changing for this 965. But I have a question that I think you can help: wile on hiking ou trail running can I see de elevation gain? When I start the watch can I see the elevation gain from zero on the screen? Or just in the final os the track when I connect to my phone? Thank you very much.

Great review. One thing for me that no one seems to cover in reviews is WRT swimming. Can you set a swim alarm for either distance or laps? I cannot seem to be able to do this on my Venu 2 and I would upgrade to either of these if that function exists. I’m currently checking the watch to set a 750m split time or 1000m finish for example, manually, which is a pain.

I think you can. I could set up a alert (lap alert) each 500m on my forerunner 735xt. I think the issue is that the venu lacks the buttons needed to manage the watch while the display is wet (touchscreen).

I switched to a Garmin Epix from an Apple Watch 4. I have now become so addicted to the Garmin training metrics with Garmin that I can't go back. Garmin's morning report is probably my favorite feature. The AMOLED display is awesome, and I personally like having a round watch over a square Apple Watch. The 965 (or even 265) delivers almost all of the features that most people would want, even cheaper than the Epix that I bought. I probably would have purchased the 965 if it had been out when I purchased the Epix. (still love the Epix thought - the build quality will probably last forever). I don't think people can go wrong with either of these two new watches from Garmin. They look awesome. Love your reviews DESFIT!

Have the same here. Have an AW since the first gen. And realy like the apple eco-system. But know I have the Epix sapphire, i love it. No more 'i need to get all training rings rounded', but more focus on health and training. The only thinh I like more on the 965 is the UI interface, which is way more nicer.

@@laoluomisade2438 I do sleep with it on my wrist and I only charge it up once per week. It has a night mode so it doesn't come on unless you push a button (which is great). I don't find this watch to be that heavy at all. It might be too large for smaller wrists like my wife's.

Are you still digging the Garmin Epix after using it a good while? I am using an Apple Watch 4, as you did, and I’m trying to decide whether to move over to Garmin, since I run often, or stick with Apple. I’m tempted by all the cool running data, and the weeks long battery life of the 965. Do you find yourself missing the functionality of the Apple Watch, with all the watchface options and apps?

@@TroyRickertsen I’m wearing the Epix as I type this. 😀. When it comes to measuring fitness progression, there is no contest. There is a feature on the Garmin called Acute load, and for me it is a game changer. It shows the progression of your ability to handle harder work without overtraining. And it tells you if you are overtraining. The integration with sleep quality, training readiness - it all just works together. At the end of the day - I’m kind of a gadget geek. I just really like how everything on the Garmin fits together. I’m sure you can get some Apps for an Apple Watch that will give you similar data as well. I think I just wanted something different than Apple to change it up.

I like the 965 features but I feel the size is a bit to big for those with smaller wrists. Thinking of going with the 265s

Thank you for providing such an in-depth review, I personally don’t need the upgraded maps because I generally run the same routes by my house or at the beach. The feature that is enticing me to potentially purchase the 965 is the real-time stamina metric. Is this one feature worth the extra money to spend on the 965 vs the 265?

I prefer the 965 because of the better battery life. I worry it’s too large of a watch and won’t be comfortable to sleep in and wear all the time. What has been the user experience regarding comfort for the 965?

This is such an amazing and in depth comparison. Thank you. Would there be any chance of comparing the 965 and the Epix 2 in the same in depth style? Specifically battery life when using maps and gps on extended hikes, I've tried looking but it's very confusing, the 965 apparently has a bigger battery and a full weeks extra smartwatch battery life over the Epix yet is worse in music and gps. How do these work if I have a Garmin bike computer like the Edge 840? Would I need to use them both or only the bike computer for rides and the watch for runs and other workouts?

I'd like to know how reliable the compass is. The Fenix 7 compass appears to have a hardware flaw that can't be fixed with calibration or a software update. Does the new 965 have the same flaw?

I watched the whole thing, I think 965 makes more sense for a long term purchase, cause there's really nothing it can't do. I love the altitude and heat readiness features, and climbpro, but is that worth $200 cad extra? I think I'd be really happy with either but still will wait for a sale. I have 935 right now and it has been great, but it's starting to fail and the altimeter doesn't function anymore.

Thx for the nice video. Again! I have a question about load ratio. The green tunnel already indicates if the acute load is suitable. But the green tunnel itself depends already on the chronic load. The tunnel moves upwards in the scale with progression in training. So, do think that it’s possible that the acute training load is in the green tunnel, but the load ratio has nevertheless a bad value?

Does the 965 or 265 have a real time estimated finish time during a workout ? How does it work ?

A more interesting comparison would be the 965 vs 955...One thing I don't like about the Amoled displays is that you have to gesture to get the backlight to come on. You can't read the amoled nicely while cycling in the sun, where the MIP it's never a problem...

How many data screens can be max on 265s or 255s , is it 4 or 6 data screens like on 255?

I have a question does the (watch size 42m 265S ) fit on ( 22mm yellow bands? )

The displays seem to be curved outwards a bit. Is this the case? Won’t they scratch quickly? Does it not distort the view? @desfit So far Garmin displays have been flat.
