@@ChaseTheSummit It's especially helpful for talking about the Fenix 6s as there are like 12, it's less of an issue with other watches. Similarly, you do an excellent job of keeping the band colors different for each watch for the viewer to keep track of which on is which. I've watched a bunch of your videos and always come away feeling like I know more about the equipment than when I started; keep up the good work!

Great video, thank you! My Polar V800 finally died after 8 years of activities😥, but I always found the distance and elevation a bit off which I had to correct on Strava. So I bought a Fenix 6X Pro to replace it. Still getting use to it many features, but I love it. Other than the price ($1000 Cdn), I wanted a longer lasting battery from my V800 especially when doing loppets (cross country ski marathons) which can decrease battery life in cold weather, and the Fenix differentiates the 2 ski techniques (skate and classic) that 745 does not, also the Fenix you can show you the trail map system. Like you said the Fenix 6X Pro is definitely heavier and the GPS tracking is a little lacking (hopefully Garmin will correct that in an update), though I am happy with the purchase.

So much detail in 4K. You can see all of the wonderful blemishes on my face 😂 Maybe I'll go back to 1080P? The 6s/945 debate is a tough one. I think the 945 is one of the best values on the market right now. Super light, great battery, offline mapping, all the bells and whistles! But, isn't built with the premium materials. The Fenix 6s is fantastic as well but doesn't offer the same battery life. Which features are more important to you?

I liked your video a lot. Just got rid of my 745 as battery life was awfully short, it seemed to me that the use of stryd as a paired sensor drained the battery too much. I got around 3 1/2 hours of gps+stryd use, so short that one couldn't believe it is intended for triathlon use, not even a marathon. I never used it with music but I guess it would have crashed with both music and stryd. I am doing my research about the 6s and your video was very helpful.

Great comparison video :) I would go with the Fenix 6s for the battery life and the looks of the watch. The accuracy of the 745 looks really good, currently still runing with a Garmin 230, also 16 hours of battery so 745 would not be the greatest upgrade battery wise. My 230 still works great, so I will patiently wait for the 7 series. 945 series is just to big to fit nicely on my wrist.

It's a good video topic indeed. But I'm struggling to understand some of the impressions of most part of the reviewers about the 745. Heck, not everyone is ultra runner or triathlete to need the extra battery life or maps. I know hundred of runners and only 2 of them are ultra runners and 1 is triathlete. So that key points you guys put like a problem in the 745 over the 945 or fenix are insignificant for the most part of the people who are interested in the watch and see your reviews in the expectation of make a good buy. And honestly only in the reviews of Desfit and the Dc Rainmaker they are objective and keep the things simple, every other reviewers had the tentation of do things like don't do this mistake, the 945 is a better watch, its overpriced etc etc. At this moment 745 here is 420 euros and the 945 500 euros,is an huge difference for things almost of runners will never need. For 420 euros we can have the best of Garmin without spending a big amount of money 💸💸 . I don't know ,but here a gap of 100 euros is almost 3 days of work , maybe in US 100 dollars don't is a big thing. I love your channels,Chase and Matt but in this particular case ,in the end of your videos about the 745 the impression you guys pass are is not worth it the watch, it's better spend a bit more and purchase other and that is not true,at all ! But hey, you're not alone, many channels go in the same way. I only saying this because in my perspective,if I follow you guys,I trust your reviews to purchase something and that purchase will cost me a lot of money ,I need things are objective and simple, that's all. Well, sorry its a long text and my English is not the best,is not my native language , but is my opinion, but hey, love your channels guys. Cheers from Portugal ☺️

@@tiago6197 Here in the US the 745 and 945 are often the same price. Which is why I tend to lean towards the 945 simply because it has more features, and bettery battery life for the same amount of money. @@tiago6197 - Great points Tiago! I think both Dave and I tend to review these watches from our own perspective and not the larger population. And I think I need to keep that in mind more frequently. But I also want to keep my channel as a trusted resource for triathletes even though the topics can be generalized to a larger audience. The issue of battery life is interesting. (945 is about 2x the 745) I think it's rare that an average runner is going to go out for 16+ hours. (745 is rated for 16 hours of GPS usage) but I still think it's important to know that difference between the two watches. And trust me I'm not going out for any 16+ hour triathlon training events any time soon. But with the extra battery life, you end up charging the device less and I love the fact that when I'm about to head out the door, I'm not left with a device that isn't sitting on red with a low battery warning. As for the $$$ difference. I think finances are going to be very different for everyone. I don't think it's a Europe vs the US kind of thing but there are some people that wouldn't hesitate to drop $1000 on a watch and others who wouldn't spend $100. I do have a hard time recommending really expensive watches for athletes and I do work hard to find affordable triathlon watches to review. It's difficult in the current market but there are some options under $500. At the same time, I think it's important to show the expensive options as well and to show the key differences and what you get for spending that extra money. I typically agree with Dave on his reviews. But I also tend to agree with Ray and Des. I have a ton of respect for all of the reviewers you mentioned. I think they work really hard and do a good job of staying objective and they tend to post some amazing reviews of all of these products. It's a process that didn't realize was so difficult to do well until I started posting my own videos to KZread.

Dave I have the Fenix Saphire with a 47mm diameter but if I could get the extra battery life with the slightly larger screen and a reduced bezel I would have gone for the the 6s Saphire. I have tried the 5s Saphire because I got a good deal on it. I got a better deal on the Fenix 6 Saphire so returned the 5s which was a older model. With small watches versus larger watches, there is always pluses and minuses. Buying both is beyond the pocket of most. You mentioned the sleep tracking. About the same time I bought the Fenix,Fitbit gave me a good offer on the Sense 2 as an upgrade. I can confirm in my opinion since the Fenix 6 Upgrade on sleep tracking it is slightly better than the Fitbit. I wear both watches when I sleep. One on each wrist. Only wear the Fenix during the day

Exactly what you said about the size: the fact that the 6s is slightly smaller but with more width makes it look like a block on the wrist (at least on mine). On top of that, the lugs protrude more (less of a a round shape?) and stick out more from the wrist. I would have liked the longer battery life and the offline maps but as someone else said below, if I go for a longer run or to a place I don't know, I'd take my phone with me anyway. Actually compared these 2 about a month ago! Both on special in Australia at A$599, it was only the onboard music that tilted the deal for the 745 as most of my running is without the phone, it also felt the nicest on my wrist and looks the nicer of the 2 in my opinion, I did consider the 945 as well but it cost significantly more here in Sydney. Mapping would be nice though and its a great tool to have but if im really going bush or in an area im not familiar with I take the phone, so would I really ever use the maps? But is a cool feature, Battery life on the 745 is lower and was a concern at first but I get 5 days and it really doesn’t bother me, charges very quickly and no real inconvenience at all, although maybe if you’re an ultra enthusiast and need that extended GPS use the step up and additional cost to the 945 or a Fenix 6 would maybe make sense and give piece of mind. All these watches are great though and really not that much between them, comes down to if maps and/or onboard music is a feature you really want or need, and then which model is on special when you purchase, had there not been much in price difference between the 745 and 945, I would have maybe bought the 945, the Fenix 6Pro was also a contender but that was just way too big on my wrist, only real criticism of Garmin is the accuracy of the heart rate monitor, it really is unreliable especially at the gym, running not so bad, but use a chest strap if buying the watch, small additional cost but worth every penny. Another great review though Dave thanks for posting 👍

I have already had my Forerunner 945 when this video came out. But now we're in huge hesitation between these 2 watches for my wife. She does not have a small wrist but the smaller size pushes us towards the Fenix 6s Pro, however the weight is a concern. Also, add the weird color options these 2 watches have which is important for a woman. I know you can replace the bands but if you buy a Lava Red FR745, the watch unit itself will still be red. I‘m also struggling between these, since I‘m not trusting my Apple Watch to get me through a full marathon in fall. In Germany there’s 100€ difference between 6s pro and 745 and I don’t know, how much the Steel bezel and mapping is worth to me. The better battery life is probably negligible to me, since I‘m currently not planning on going longer than a marathon anytime soon.

But what if I do not want to take the 745 AND my smartphone with the App with me for a run? I'd love to leave my phone at home and still have the option to inform my loved ones in case I get lost / hurt. Does it only work if I take both - my smartphone and my watch - with me?
