@@AI-xi4jk I havent had the chance to test out the new one first hand but I've heard good things. The only thing that drives me nuts about Apple watches is needing to charge daily and also the Battery life in GPS mode. I've heard that apple has really good heart rate accuracy too. Love the Vertix though! Killer watch!

No one’s done a serious comparison of specialised Apple Watch fitness/sports apps vs the best in class dedicated fitness/sports watches. To do this you’d first need to find the best Apple Watch apps in each category e.g. swimming, running, gym, cycling, hiking etc. You could create multiple series of videos (or a dedicated channel) just trying to identify the best Apple Watch apps for each category! Become the KZread expert on Apple Watch fitness/sports apps. Once ppl realise you’ve done your research, then your expertise in apps will turn heads when you compare the best Apple Watch apps vs best dedicated watches. If it turns out Apple Watch apps aren’t good enough then your research will turn heads at Apple and app developers. Your channel can become the go-to channel for Apple Watch fitness, but more than this - your reviews will tell them what they have to do to catch up with and beat dedicated watches. As each year ticks by you can be the keeper of the competition between Apps vs dedicated watches by updating us at Christmas with the ‘state of the nation’ of how the two camps are doing. If it turns out Apple Watch apps do well on functionality (given all its apps), it would be interesting to see how accurate is is compared to other watches (heart rate, GPS, etc.) Here are some apps to consider: WorkOutDoors (amazingly configurable), RunKeeper, SmartGym, Komoot, Cyclemeter/Runmeter. Given there are so many apps, becoming THE KZread expert will be time consuming and difficult, but this also creates a barrier to entry for others, meaning it’ll be easier for you to hold onto this top spot. P.s. everyone knows reviews on AppStore’s and Amazon are rigged with fakes, so your review on apps will give people the truth. One thing to bear in mind - you’ll need to ensure you state the version of the app you’re reviewing. Then subsequent reviews can update progress as newer versions get released. You could setup playlists for each app and all its versions, plus playlists for your top picks.

I would love to see some of the newer Fenix 6 features on the 945 via a firmware update. However that hasn’t been how Garmin has historically done things. We’ll probably have to wait for the 955 before seeing any of the newer UI.

I had 945 and F6x side by side today and surprisingly visible map area for the same zoom level is exactly the same on both. F6x showing some more detail like extra street name, etc. I was hoping F6x will show larger area as map is the only screen where you can really benefit from the bigger screen size. Font on 945 is easier to read than on 935. F6x doesn't improve on already good readability of 3 to 4 item data screens. F6x feels really bulky, hope I'll have a chance to compare to standard F6 soon.

For some reason the 945 has one of the brightest screens of any Garmin I've tried. The Fenix 6 isn't bad at all but the 945 is a bit more contrasty and vivid. Also, keep in mind that sapphire transfers less light so it's a bit dimmer overall even with the backlight off. Hope that helps.

Garmin forums are suggesting that I track it as cardio, but when the cycles are shorter than 1m (full cycle) it falls short. On the build quality thing. I've got a 935 (previous version of the 945) and while it's plastic, I'm a mountain biker. Not the dirt roadie type, the 'just gonna send it!' type. I spend a lot of time on gnarly trails and my local freeride park. I'm also a snowboarder. All of that to say I probably crash more than the average user of one of these watches. I bought mine in 2017 and it's been on my wrist for many a crash and get off. It has zero scratches or other damage. Not saying it's scratch proof, but I wouldn't let this be the deciding factor. IMO I think Dave has hit on the big factor and that is weight. The 945 feels like you're wearing nothing and it won't bounce around on your wrist or worse yet vibrate on long rocky descents like a bigger watch does.

  • @ChaseTheSummit

    @ChaseTheSummit

    4 жыл бұрын

I agree! The 945 is well built and what I like about the plastic case is that if it DOES happen to scratch the scratch is less noticeable due to the material being black all the way through. The Fenix watches tend to show scratches quite obviously. That said, my Fenix 6 DLC has held up incredibly well for the past several months. Thanks for watching!

Battery life between the Fenix 6 and 945 are quite similar with the Fenix 6 having a slight edge due to its software optimization. I was able to complete a 100 mile ultra marathon in 26 hours wearing the Fenix 6, when I crossed the finish line it had 30% battery left. The Garmin Warranty is 1 year. The battery is not user replaceable but garmin will replace it for a small fee.

Maybe FR45 vs 245? My 9 year old just saved up enough pocket money for a new 45S and is loving it (he just got a new parkrun PB and had a crack at his first duathlon on the weekend), but there must be a lot of kids and those new to running interesting in finding the best value watch that gives good "bang for buck" - ie GPS watch features that will grow with you, while not breaking the bank. Key feature for my son was the smaller form-factor of the 45S that was a better fit on his small wrist. He is loving it!

Since I don't know anything about 945/F6 experience: Does garmin offer free maps in case I'd travel to a place not in my native continent and are these maps for free? Cause I've seen Garmin offering Maps offered for about 400 Francs for some regions in Europe … Maps! I got now the Garmin Forerunner 245 Music and wil normally do runs for 5 till 15 kilometer. Do you think I will feel a huge different while running with the Fenix 6 comparing to the Forerunner because of the weight. Or is it maybe better to look at the Fenix 6S if I will use it for running the most?

Hard to say, I have small wrists myself. I'm only 5'7ish and have a small frame so the big watches certainly stand out. It's really up to you to decide what you're comfortable with. Personally the Fenix 6 (47mm) is about as big as I can go. I prefer the Forerunner 945 as far as fit goes because it's a bit lower profile. The 6s would be a good option too at the expense of losing some battery life. Thanks for watching!

Just picked up the Fenix 6 pro. It is a beautiful watch and looks to be great, however it is just way too heavy on my smaller wrists, digging into my wrist bone after a while no matter how tight I tighten/loosen it. I'm going to exchange it out for the 945 due to the heaviness and comfort factor. I like the look of the fenix, but the forerunner 945 is closer in specs to the Instinct I'm upgrading from (I'd prefer the slightly larger screen over the 42mm of the 6s and the instinct is 52g compared to 50g for the forerunner and the 80g+ of the fenix 6), and from your review it doesn't look like I'm losing out on that much functionality. Especially with some of the software updates since this video. I didn't imagine it'd bother me this much when I ordered it, but just sitting around it bothers me enough that I'm sure when I take it running later I will definitely notice it more.

You're right. Indoors and under backlight the gorilla glass is easier to read. But outdoors they're basically the same. The trade off is the indestructible nature of Sapphire compared to the relatively scratchable Gorilla Glass. I managed to scratch my 945 the first day I owned it, but I've never scratched sapphire and I've owned lots of watches! After you add a screen protector to the Gorilla glass you lose a little bit of contrast anyways. Idk tough call!

That depends what you want. The Fenix is heavier and larger. But has added functions like Pace Pro, map themes, widgets, etc... it's also much more ruggedly built and waterproof to 100 meters. That's said the 945 does 95% of what the Fenix does for less money. It's also much sleeker and lighter on the wrist. Interesting, cheers! No remarks about performance though? (Any differences in menu speed, operation of maps, etc?) Also, I always hate it when ppl call the forerunner 945 (or 935) a 'plastic' fenix. While technically true perhaps it doesn't do it justice imo. It's some fibre reinforced plastic (polymer) which according to most reports I've read actually most often is a better alternative to stainless steel (though titanium might be different). I have owned a 935 for 2 yrs and now the 945, still have to get my first scratch or dent ever and I'm clumsy ;) Anyway, interesting review and the only thing I miss on my 945 is the bigger screen. This is just a feature overview of whats new in the Fenix 6 compared to the 945. I'll need to spend more time with the Fenix 6 to publish my "full review" about it. From the time I've spent with the F6 I can say that it seems just as "fast" as the 945 when scrolling through widgets. Perhaps a touch faster when scrolling or zooming in the maps but not by much. I'm assuming they're using the same CPU for the F6 that was in the 945 but I can't say for sure. There's nothing wrong with the plastic on the 945. Saying its "plastic" isn't an insult... It's just a fact and is a major factor in why the device is cheaper. It also helps with weight reduction and it's also nice that if it's scratched it's still black underneath instead of a shiny silver streak in the metal. I'm assuming they'll port over MOST of the features to the 945. But they may leave some exclusive to the Fenix 6 just as a selling point. I guess we shall see! Thanks for watching the video!

Better bluetooth range (both to a phone and to sensors) than the Fenix devices, from my observations. I think it's because there is less metal in the contruction to interfere with the signal. So not only do you get a ligher device, you get better range as well. Button mushiness can be an issue on the 945, so make sure you buy it from a vendor who has a decent returns policy.

You are correct. On the 945 the barometer hole is located under the HR sensor on the back of the watch. However, there is a small "gutter" that allows it to breathe. I personally never had an issue with it becoming clogged but I could see it happening a lot easier than the Fenix 6. The 945 is SO much lighter though which is really nice and with all of the new firmware updates its recieved it's basically got the same firmware as the Fenix 6 now. A lot has changed since this video was posted!

The sapphire glass is a bit thicker and more reflective. However I think I had my brightness set to 20% on the 945 and 10% on the Fenix 6... that didn't help! Yeah it's a tough one! The 945 is certainly a better value but the Fenix 6 is better built. I do like the lighter weight of the 945 though. Hey Tom, all of the recent Garmins have excellent battery life due to the new Sony GPS chip. The Garmin 945 and Fenix 6 have almost identical battery life but the Fenix 6 takes it a step further with customized power profiles. Yes, the Gorilla glass is less reflective and thinner so the display appears to have a bit more contrast. @@alexandreguillendesouza8596 There's actually a tempered glass screen protector on the 945 in this video in every clip. The downside to the non-sapphire Fenix 6 is that you sacrifice the DLC coating you get as a bonus on the Sapphire version. For $100 Sapphire and DLC seems like a good deal. But yes, I agree that the gorilla glass is a bit more clear. In practice though, if you're not holding them next to eachother the difference is less noticeable.

Button mushiness can be an issue on the 945. I have already returned one for that issue, and keen to receive my replacement to see if it has the same issue. So if you choose the 945 (which is a great watch by the way), make sure you buy it from a vendor who has a decent returns policy - ie can return within 30+ days for full refund without having to provide a reason.

Hey Greg! Thanks for watching! It really depends what you want/need. The 945 and Fenix 6 have more advanced training metrics (load focus, training load, heat acclimation, elevation acclimation), Better battery life, Blood Oxygen saturation, Full topographic maps, on-board music, garmin pay, and the new user interface. I think if you were deciding between the Fenix 5 and a 945 I would say go for the 945 unless you REALLY need the tank-like build quality. Jumping up to the Fenix 6 will cost you... but it might be worth it if you're really into the nitty gritty metrics. Otherwise the Fenix 5 and 5X are still fantastic devices that can be found a value pricing now a days. Hope that helps!

there's a thread with hundreds of comments on the garmin forums about the display. What I got out of it is that some Fenix 6 (including the one in this video) have a blue-ish tint and the blacks and not "really" black. Some Fenix (there is very clear photos in the garmin thread) have a really "good" screen with real blacks and no blue tint. Garmin doesn't acknowledge a default, they simply admit it's different but within specs. When I go for my Fenix6, I'll make sure to have the "good" display. Do not settle for less than perfect at this price point. for me it's not acceptable.

The Garmin Fenix 6s or 945 will do most of what you're looking for. Unfortunately that's a "pro watch" with a big price tag. If you cross off Navigation, and Paying with the watch you could look into something like the Coros Apex Pro which has fantastic battery life but not many "smart" features. The Coros can navigate a pre-made course but doesn't have mapping on board and no "pay". The Apple watch does everything you're looking for but unfortunately has terrible battery life.
