Garage Door Repair - won't stay closed or go down

It's a really easy fix and the things I show in the video should repair nearly 100% of garage doors that won't stay closed.
Obviously, make sure nothing is blocking the sensors. Then make sure the sensors are pointing straight. If those things don't fix it, then look to make sure the tracks are not too tight against the rollers.

8 years later and your video is still helping people like me. THANK YOU!!
I'm a 65 year old woman who has ZERO handy man skills. .MY garage door had issues over the weekend. Your video was very well prepared, to the point, with all the information needed. I fixed the door in under 20 minutes without having to call a neighbor or pay an after hours service fee. I'm thrilled and appreciate this wonderful instructional video. I hope you have more.I have now subscribed to your DIY you tube videos. Thank you Adam very much. Who says you can't teach an old dog new tricks!!!!!😅😊 Martha G.
Garage door suddenly was not closing. Parents were worried we'd have to call a technician or something. I immediatley went on youtube, found this video, tried adjusting the sensors and anything that could be blocking and voila the garage door went down. Very easy to understand and love how you should everything close up. Thanks Adam!
I have watched dozens of videos and your's was the first to talk about rubbing on the rails. After watching your video I fixed my garage in two minutes after days of adjusting every thing you could with the sensors and gains on the motor. THANK YOU
Adam, thanks for an exceptional video. You helped me to fix my garage door in under an hour without calling a technician. The sensors were fine. however, the wheels were far too tight in the track and I had to adjust the track to provide the wheel adequate room for movement without excessive tension. Thank you!
Adam, you fixed my problem! Best video I have ever seen to find all the problems one can have. Thank you sir!!!
Our door has been doing exactly this for longer than I can say. Thank you for the terrific video. It worked like a charm!
Holy Crap! Thank you for this video brother! For over a YEAR I had this issue with my garage door. After watching your video and going through my checks, found out that the rails were slightly tight on one side. Loosened it up and now the garage door closed with no problem. THANK YOU!!!
Brilliant teaching here, Adam. Thanks for taking time to share all this.
Thanks for this video. This was the first one that explained the sunlight issue with the sensor.
Adjusting the camera worked perfectly... Thank you and thank you for taking the time to post this.
Great video. Well put together and organized without any nonsense. Your video was the first one I watched that pointed out the issue with sunlight hitting the sensor at a certain time of day. That was the exact problem on mine. I was also able to check the rest of the track and wheels and the sensors, as well as clean the sensors. Thanks again.
THIS IS A VERY WELL DONE VIDEO ! Adam photographed everything in close ups, and methodically explained every aspect in simple and easy-to-understand terms. 'Very professionally done ! Thanks.

Hey Adam, Im not sure if my sensors weren't lined up properly or just plain dirty BUT my door is now fixed and I want to say THANK YOU. You just saved me around $100. Much appreciated. Choppy
Way to go Adam! My issue was with the wheels hitting the screws on the Track. I would have never thought of that. I added grease to the wheels and then noticed certain screws had grease on them and some didn't and a few wheels had no play in them to slide in and out. So all I did was loosen the nut on the track where the screws hasd grease on them and the wheels were tight, pushed the track about 1/8" to 1/4" outwards using a crowbar and that worked like a charm!!! You saved me a service fee and hours of trying to troubleshoot it myself! You da Man!
Adam, Thank you for a great series of videos for the garage door openers. I will go out and try the troubleshooting issues you suggested. The video and your narration were very professional. I have a Wayne Dalton Quantum double door opener with a sensor problem. You are awesome buddy!
Adam thanks for your helpful videos on garage door problems. My garage door is working great again. Thanks
Great video Adam. Adjusted my garage door track after trying to troubleshoot the sensors. It was definitely the track. Thank you.
Thank you. Your tips helped me fix my garage door opener and saved a service call. Aloha!
Excellent video! I checked everything on the list and finally figured out that there some wet leaves that had stuck to the bottom of my garage door, and stuck out just enough to trip the sensors. Once I swiped them off, the door closed perfectly. But I also went through the other steps and cleaned the sensors before discovering this, so maybe it's a little preventive maintenance too. Thank you for sharing your expertise!
I've had exactly the same issue with my garage door last winter and cost me $120 for 10 minutes work. Today I found your video and learned and saved money thank you.
Your tips saved me a service call fee. Thanks!!!!!!!!!
Thank you Adam! I just fixed my garage door!😱😱😱 the sensors were not aligned- now cancelling my garage repair appointment for tomorrow ! you just saved me $100. ThNkyou thank you 🎉🎊🎉
ahhh this worked! new home owner here, and I just cleaned the sensors and it worked! Thanks so much, there are so many things to maintain and spend on, thank you for sparing me from spending yet again more money :)
ADAM, YOU ARE A GENIUS, THANKS. We had this exact problem on the July 4 '17 weekend, and your video saved us. Thanks again for a very well done video.
You rock Adam. I was so frustrated cause I couldn't figure why the door wouldn't go down. Your tip about the rollers too tight to the track did the trick. I think it was the cold winter causing movement of the track. THANKS!!!
You saved me a service call and most likely a lot of money, I went to check the sensor and just like you said, something bumped into and move it, put it back in place and fixed the problem, thanx for this awesome video!!!!
Thanks, I needed to adjust the railing and that was it. You the man!!
Your instructions worked! Our door is going down and staying closed now. Thank you!
Thank you so much. Blessings to you and yours !
Thank you soo very much for your expertise on this matter. I fixed my garage door because of you and did not have to call a technician. It was an easy solution. Your video was clear and easy to understand as well. Thanks again. I subscribed to your channel.
Your troubleshooting routine worked! Thanks a million.
Thanks a lot. It solved the problem like a magic!!
Thanks so much for posting this video - my sensors were mis-aligned - that fixed it! Much appreciated!
Your video was quick and easy, solved my issue quickly with the sun light.
this video jus helped me fix my garage door. THANK YOU!!!!!
Thanks for the advice on this video. I cleaned the sensor lenses, and it shut again. Simple solution. I appreciate your help.
Wow, Simple and to the point, I love it, you ROCK !!!!!!!!
this helped me fix a stuck garage door. The cold weather contracted the wood the tracked screws into and the track was pinching the door rollers. Loosened the bolt, pushed the track back, tightened the bolt and presto. Good to go! Thanks!
Thanks so much, Adam! My garage door wouldn't stay shut - it would hit the bottom and open again. Per your video, I cleaned the sensors and solved the problem. I really appreciate your putting this up.

Adam, thank you, your video helped me isolate the issue. Excellent video.
Thanks Adam. I never once thought the sunlight was the culprit, but just shielding the sensor fixed the problem.
Thank you so much, my laser pointer was not pointing in the right direction. Moved it the right way and my door closed! Thank you soooo much!
thanks so much for this video! Hopefully the tips you provided in your video will be all i need to fix my garage door problems! Thanks!
Thanks! Our garage door would balk and go up (like your viedo). Turned out one sensor was misaligned. Never understood how it works till your video. Still helping people in 2017!
Adam! I really appreciate for your excellent video. It simply fixed my problem. Thank you!
OMG thank you so much for your video! It took me like 3 minutes to fix after being frustrated for like 25 minutes.
Your sequence of checks work great! In my case... I realized that it wasn't the roller friction that was causing the door to reverse because it would reverse even when I disconnected the door from the track. It was indeed the sensor alignment. Thanks!
O.M.G. it worked. My husband and adult son have been whining about the garage door not staying shut for weeks. I finally got tired of hearing then grumble. So i decided to google and BAM, you said to check the alignment. It worked. thank you.
Wow. That was very informative and gave me great advice so I can at least check things out before calling for possibly unnecessary service. Thanks.
Holy Crap! Thank you for this video! For a few days now...my garage door has been doing this. I didn’t even make it 1 minute into your video (the part about the sensors being tilted and not lined up) and taadaa....fixed the sensor and all is good!
Can't be more helpful than Adam!
It works! Thank you for making this video.
This saved me tonight - thank you VERY much!
Thanks Adam. It was the sensors. I didnt realize they were so easy to move.
THANK YOU for sharing this knowledge......really appreciate.
Thanks so much for the alignment track trick!!!❤️❤️❤️👍👍👍👍👍😀❤️🤗
Very helpful video, fixed my garage door in 5 minutes. Thanks!
This helped a lot! Door runs smooth now. Thanks!

Thank you! It helped me fix the problem I had with my garage sensor.
Worked like a charm, thanks!
Thank you so much! 1st thing you listed fixed my issue!
Thank you, I used this video today to fix mine. I wiped the sensor with alcohol and that worked.
Great video you just helped me fix my garage door
Great job on the video helped me out when my garage door won’t close thanks
Great to the point video! 👍 I fixed my problem thanks to you.
Thanks for the information, my garage is working!!!
Thank you! Worked like a charm (not sure which tip it was, I just did all of them lol).
THANKS FOR THE TIPS - VERY HELPFUL
Thanks for your help....the door works perfectly again.
Very informative - Fixed my problem! Thanks!
Thanks. This was the first video I have seen that talks about track alignment. The Genie troubleshooting chart only talked about sensor alignment and open & close force adjustment. When I started the process the sensors were misaligned which I adjusted and the door still wouldn't close. Well the sensor was misaligned because the track had bent. Once that was straightened out & the sensors re-aligned the door works again.
This video was very helpful. Thank you!
Wow! It's now working. I took gray/grey cover off of unit and adjusted limit adjustments. Visually seeing how it works helped determine the original settings. Also turned power off to unit and now works great. I also tightened head bracket and all screws on door. I believe it was combination of below zero temps, limit adjustments done wrong and loose screws from 20+ years of wear and tear. Thanks for the info to get me thinking outside the box. Tragedy averted in Troy. Thanks again!!!!!!!!!!!

Not a problem! I am glad to hear you got it working!
I fixed it! It was one of the sensors. Thank you.
Outstanding. I think I might have the sunlight issue because it doesn't seem to happen at all times of the day- just later in the day. Didn't realize that could be a problem.
This was so helpful, thank you.
Thanks so much! Your advice worked perfectly
thank you so much my mom was about to buy a new garage door lol took me a minute and zero dollars saved us a bunch thanks again
This was great. The misaligned track was my problem. Thanks
Thank you much , for your helpful video, we fix the sensor point to other one, now is working very well, thank you gain
hi Adam. Thanks for this great video. I have a follow-up question. Do all the rollers need to be able to be free at all points in their travel of the track? When my door is closed, the very bottom rollers are super tight against the track but the other three or four on each side are very loose. thanks so much
Thanks Adam! Very helpful! one touch and it fixed it!
Thank you so much, the sunlight hit the lens did the trick for my pop.
Thank you, it worked. I jigged those areas. Took less than 5 minutes 👍👍
You save my time and money as well. Thanks
THANK you! The tracks on mine were out of line, a much easier and faster adjustment than the Chamberlain website would have had me do (unwire and switch the sensors, etc.).
Very helpful video explanation
very helpful breakdown
You are AWESOME! Thanks! Saved me some money!
Thank you Adam.. I bought a new battery for the remote but the door still wouldn't close.. I adjusted the sensors & it works like new. Should have checked here first, silly me.. Thank you !!!
Thank you very much Adam, you saved me 100$.
I was experiencing the same issue and the sensors were aligned. I ended up unplugging the device for 5 minutes and it's working great now!
Dude you rock! You even have the friendly spiders hanging out like in my garage! Keep up the good work!
Thank you it worked!!!! 🤗 I feel awfully proud of myself.
Thank you so much Adam, it was an easy fix! My Lift Master garage door did not close all the way and then it went back up. So i cleaned the sensors and realigned them. Now it works fine again.
