Garage door wont close, Stops and Reverses, Voltage Test.
Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль
My garage door is not working correctly and closing only when I’m holding the control button down. When I release it, the door stops and reverses, and won’t close. The garage light flashes 10 times. How to troubleshoot voltage, and fix garage opener safety sensors if there is no orange and green light on LiftMaster by Chamberlain. If the green light is blinking, align sensors or remove any obstructions.

Best video I have seen on this subject. Mainly due to the accurate description of the normal voltage that should be seen for this circuit. 6 vdc. Nowhere else did anyone give this spec. Yes the transformer in the unit is 24 vac. That has nothing to do with this safety circuit. Thank you for giving me the answers I looked hours to get. I can finally assume my logic board is Ok.

Thanks. Finally SOMEONE actually said what the DC voltage should be. The sensors must communicate back to the main unit via RF....very very helpfull

Thanks a lot for the video! This is the only place in the universe that states the actual voltage supplied to the photocell circuit.

Thank you. Thank You and KZread. I am 78 and with your excellent instructions and information I fixed my garage door problem and learned how to avoid future problems. I am so proud of myself and thankful to my mother that taught me to "try before paying you might learn something for a lifetime". I subscribed and will share with family and friends. @@Your-Self I also had the same problem also older guy 81 and am equally proud of both the excellent video as well as being able not only correct this problem, but to also keep the derbis and other objects clear and the lights properly adjusted. Thank You!!
Sensor out of alignment, as well. Thanks for going through the troubleshooting steps back to the power source. A lot more help than the manual or the online chatbot. Thanks for this!

Thank you! My door was closing most of the way then reversing. I didn’t realize (or remember, in case I already knew it) about the light flashing code. Mine was flashing ten times, like you mentioned. There wasn’t any obvious obstruction between the two door sensors but the green one was flashing intermittently. Turns out that the garage door insulation that I installed years ago was puffing out just enough to be detected by the sensor. I pushed it in and problem solved. I’ve added some Tyvek tape to help prevent it from bulging back out again. Thanks again for steering me in the right direction!

Your video was very helpful. I needed the voltage at the sensors and I could NOT find it on any other video. Much easier to know the voltage and not have to remove the sensors and run jumper wires to the back of the motor unit.

Thanks. Seems like it is the cable for me. Was giving -1. But at the garage opener it was 14 or 16.
My sensors were aligned, door still not closing unless I pressed the button and held it down. Eventually I sprayed lube on the rails and wheels, and that fixed it 👍🏻
Thank you so so so much it reallly helped I fixed my garage and I subscribe as well thank you so much man

Does the amber and green light should be visible when door is closed or open? Because ours didnt show but we can open from keypad and hold the keypad to close it.
@Your-Self
2 жыл бұрын
Yes, both lights should always be visible. They act as safety sensors for the door, so it doesn't accidentally crush someone. But when you hold the keypad, you basically override the safety sensors, so the door can close while you watch. Try to wiggle wires going into those sensors. Maybe it's just a loose connection.
Do you know why my garage opens an inch and it stays there I have a solid orange and solid green
@Your-Self
13 күн бұрын
Not sure. Maybe you have a safety lock inserted or bent rails? You could try disengaging the automatic opener and see if the door opens freely by hand. To disconnect the trolley, pull straight down on the emergency rope with a handle.
Problem is, I have steady Green, so the sensors are lined up, so there's nothing for me to realign. However, I still have the same issue with having to hold the button down to close

If this happens during the day only, the sunlight reflection could be disrupting those sensors. If this happens always, try observing sensors while the door is closing. Maybe they start blinking from the vibration and become misaligned.
My garage door sensor orange and green light does grow steadily, but still can't close the door. Only closing all the way down while I keep holding the button. Please help. Thanks.
@Your-Self

Try observing the lights (if they start blinking or go dark) while the door is closing. Maybe the rail is warped/loose, so the sensors move during closing and lose contact with each other.

I have 6 volts at the unit 6 volts at both sensors and with new sensors still the door comes down and then goes back up after it reaches about 1 ft from the top any more ideas
@Your-Self

If the door is capable of closing all the way down while you hold the button, the problem comes back to the sensors. Maybe they are slightly misaligned or become misaligned when the door starts to move. Maybe the main control board is going bad. Not sure what else.

Other videos will show you the up/down screws which set how far it travels. Start there but, my issue was resolved by increasing the down force which was a small purple colored dial on my liftmaster. Now my door stops bouncing from 1-2" off the ground and will close all the way
Use that broom to clean those corners
On the wires that go to the sensor each has 2 is one for power and other ? Or what
@Your-Self
Жыл бұрын
These sensors use DC (direct current) voltage. That means one wire is positive and the other is negative to complete the circuit. But if you mean 2 wires going to the same terminal, they are the same... either positive or negative. Those wires are very thin. So the installers probably wanted to make them thicker by combining 2 wires together.
@DakillaChi
Жыл бұрын
Yes so each sensor has 2 thin wires glued together and tie up when entering in back of the overhead motor

@Your-Self

If you have 6 V at both sensors but they don't light up, you probably need to replace the sensors... not the wiring.
Mine wouldn't close because the lenses were dirty. I cleaned them with a wet rag and it started working again.

Make sure it's the correct battery replacement type, and that it's not installed upside down.
Don’t use pliers or the plastic will crack.
