I love the Gannet as it was my Dad's aircraft in the 1960s. I also really hope Airfix do it in 1/72, with HMS Centaur decals please!

Just making the Revell version - the mouldings are, indeed, superb, however there are significant fit issues. The fuselage halves ended up with a gap that needed a plastic card shim as well as filler. I'm making this model with the wheels up and the nose wheel door is only vaguely the shape of the wheel well door it's supposed to cover. As for the transparencies, they are abysmal, barely fitting at all (apart from the rear observer's position, which is fine) and the clear plastic is very brittle and cracks easily (and yes, that's exactly what happened!)

That's a shame! It could be a poor batch I guess - most people I know who built it loved it. Hopefully I'll find out soon enough! 💟

the Eastern Express kit is indeed the old FROg mould (that was also re-released by Revell in the 90's) i also have the Revell newer tool, and its a real gem.

Glad you’re back !! Nice comparison. I love the idea of doing a theme, great idea, that Alizé looks really nice. Maybe start with that one while pondering which Gannet to do. If you want a different challenge, CMR do a resin kit of the Gannet which is really nice, but a bit pricey. Looking forward to see what you decide

Most CMR kits are being re-released in plastic now so I'm not eager to buy any CMR in the immediate future! 💟

Lovely stuff, thank you. Back in the mid 1970s there was a shop in my Town. It sold all kinds of cheap tat. Knock-off Board Games, Make up, Wallets, Stationery... the place was always packed. One year they dedicated their top floor to FROG kits. I was in hogs' heaven. I bought loads of kits (They were dirt cheap). That was a great summer.

@@MsModeller So true. It is as though the modelling craze disappeared overnight. Suddenly Newsagents, Corner Shops, Woolworth's and Specialists were no longer stocking Airfix, etc. Very sad.

Great to see these compared. I have built the Revell version and it's great. The only issue I had was getting the canopies fitted. Time and tape sorted that tho 👍

Another great video, and it was really nice to see the Alize included as it is a very good contrast to the Gannet. You have mentioned in the past being interested in 1/144 scale, andnever having tried a vacform,have you considered the Gannet AEW3 from Welsh Models?

I like both versions of the Gannet. Sword makes a 1/72 Skyraider with the AEW bulge too.

Nice comparison of 72nd scale really. The Azur boxing just screamed Special Hobby and had to rewind there to make sure what I was seeing. Would have chosen the Mystery kit during the Premiere's poll. Now knowing what kit it was, definitely would have picked, just because it's very different. 👍

lets say it was of its time , the kit itself was over forty years old , I bought it in a job lot of FROG kits which also included a Westland Wyven & a Fairey Barracuda , good to see you back @@MsModeller
