Gamera Rocket Heater: Unboxing

www.unclemud.com/ Support us @ / unclemud
The Mud Family has been building and documenting Rocket Heaters since 2004 when Ianto showed us how to build a core out of old bricks and mud in an event tent in the middle of a field. It was crude, but it burned cleanly enough that when the weather turned chilly we were able to button up the sides of the tent with the rocket burning inside and have a warm dinner. The Gamera Rocket Heater is the result of 10 years of development by the folks at rocketheatergamera.wordpress.... in Bulgaria. We are excited to be working with them on the testing and distribution infrastructure to bring this fine machine to the USA. There's a lot of work to do but this is a first happy step and we wanted to share it with you.

Would you recommend this stove over the liberator?

The Gamera is a much more expensive heater especially when you have to ship it half way across the world. I like it better for its ceramic liner and glass door and broader feed tube. The Liberator has major benefits 1. of being UL listed for sale in the US so it is easy to install as a code approved fireplace and your insurance company doesn't even blink. and 2. the non-electric pellet feeder that burns all night on a bag of pellets and 3. the outside air feed that is required in many places.

@@UncleMud From looking at both the Gamera and liberator now, 2 yrs later, they are both $3000, a bit too high for my taste.

@@Tonyncher I just heard about the Gamera today and did not know the cost so thank you for that information. One problem with this movement is so much information it is hard to find the relevant and important information.

@@hithere7382 that sounds about right with current metal prices. I don't think that includes air freight and customs which for me in the states is usually around $900

@@UncleMud I would think that "Worldwide" vs "EU" pricing would include air freight but perhaps not customs duties?

Dude, their prices are OUTRAGEOUS…. €2,000 for the mid sized!!!!??????? They should team with an American supplier so their prices over here could drop. Their “Tiny 3” might make a good wall tent stove…. If only it was about 15-20% lighter…

The Tiny has heated my 1200 square foot doublewide trailer in Cleveland for less than $100 a year in fuel. The inside is cast ceramic so it doesn't burn out. It is the best rocket heater on the market, but it is not approved for the US market yet. We're working on that.

I agree completely. This was a test to see how the usual packing that works fine for ground shipping in the EU would work for air freight. We discovered all sorts of ways to improve it.
