Besides the song being awesome and Aron's drum solo being insane, there is a significance to this song that you might not catch being a newer Dirty Loops fan. This song represents the "return" of DL after being missing in action for years. They put out their album Loopified and toured with it in 2014 (I saw them in Chicago and it was awesome). After that they just kinda disappeared with no explanation. They did a couple little things after but we as fans thought they were done. It looked like the members had gone off their separate ways. Then out of the blue in early 2019 this song drops and took us all by surprise. They were back like a phoenix (hence the name of their E.P.) rising from the ashes and better than ever! Not only that but they were now managed by Quincy Jones which was amazing to see.

I started listening to dirty loops after they dropped “next to you” (friend recommendation) but I thought the same thing (that they were doing their own thing) when Jonah started making songs on his own. Then follow the light dropped

By the time I became aware of them, it was just a bit before Jonah released "Bad". I had noticed the Songs for Lovers project, on top of so many other side projects Henrik was a part of, and I thought I missed everything because I was so late to the party. I saw that they'd even gone on a hiatus from each other during the creation of "Phoenix". So I'm glad they literally worked sh!t out and are still gracing fans with their awesomeness.

Fun watching you get gobsmacked, as do we all in the beginning. :-) And you’re right, one doesn’t tire of them because of the awesome next level creativity they bring to all songs. My favourite is Next to you (although I’ve got Follow the light on repeat right now) because in all its orderly chaos it’s somewhat more gospel sounding and I just looove it.

I'm lucky enough to have stumbled onto the Loops about two years ago and for the record I have a Loops playlist that I can just put on repeat and it never seems to get old. The thing that's super fun with your reactions is getting to vicariously hear this music again for the first time through your very enjoyable reactions. Loops play this unique cross genre music with jazz, pop, funk, gospel and anything else that occurs to them, nobody else out there does anything quite like this. It's great your sharing your experiences with all of us. Thanks.

Yas! His drum solo composition is very much reminiscent of Neil Peart, and you're one of the first to mention it! Helpful tip, though... it's pEARt, said just like 'ear' with a p and a t. ;)

Besides, that they are insane in a good way of course. Henrik is playing a 6-string fretless bass, and the intonation is the best I have ever heard. (And I have seen them all, during my generation, except Jaco.)

I am left wondering: was that keys solo at the end derived from Cory Henry's Lingus modulations? It really sounded like it. Seriously. Check that out and compare. It's a killer set of changes.

I'm from Stockholm, Sweden, and saw them live at Berns in 2014 after looping their debut album 24/7 for quite some time :P Glad to see that a lot more people have started to find them, we all thought they would explode immediately but it has been really slow...

Every song of theirs is an experience, but this song makes me break out in a sweat, even when I'm just sitting here. I love that in the video, Jonah mouths "come on with it" and Aron CAME ON WITH IT! Aron went absolutely ham on that solo. I do have a question for DL fans, as I've only just become aware of them myself a few months ago. Do they record their songs as they're filming the videos? In other words, is this "live"? I know that there are songs where they record their parts separately, but is that the case for the ones they've shot videos for? I'd like to know. Great reaction as always, sir.

My best guess, having watched these videos lots and lots of times now, is they do one take of everyone doing everything together, then they’d retake the vocals separately. Jonah’s mic would pick up too much drum noise I reckon. Miming/recreating the drums for the video would be a bit much surely so they’d have to be done live? Also, I think immediately after the drum solo, that’s repatched in. Like.. another take, but patched up nicely. The bit where keys and bass come back in. Regardless, it’s pretty shit hot. :)

@@NooshaSheep Yeah, I can't imagine Aron being able to mimic all of that. Recreation is likely the easiest for Henrik. But what you've said makes sense.

Jamila, one year on and you might’ve well by now gotten some more info on DLoops’ workings…. but still: they record all their tracks first, in various orders -a sometimes complicated process - and then shoot the visuals. And yes, apparently all of them, including Aron, have to relearn all of their lines and fills again, to be able to sinc it with the camera…and Jonah and Henrik are in awe of how Aron does it… I’m in awe of how all three of them do it! 🤣 This is loosely taken from the Jonah interviews on Stratele Studio’s YT channel, as well as from a bunch of other podcasts and interviews. But whatever, 5hey definitely make it look like a live jam session, most of the time :) ☺️

Hate to be telling you how to spend your money but the new album collab with Cory Wong, "Turbo" is just amazing. If you've ever listened to classic Tower of Power the funky feel of this should bring a little of that back too.
