The reason your burgers were not spicy is so you can taste whatever you are eating i.e chicken or beef. In the States they add spices to mask the taste of the chlorine in the chicken or growth agents in the beef.

The term back yard is definitely used when a property has a very small or tiny rear area outside the back door, usually associated with Victorian/Edwardian era houses, including a back gate for access with bicycles and coal delivery.
I’m glad you had people to hang with and locals as well. Good to see Spencer!
I’d say that in general, burger is used in the UK to define the style and presentation. If you were to request a chicken sandwich in the UK you’d likely receive some form of cooked chicken (most probably slices or chunks of roast chicken) between two slices of bread along with whatever else you have requested or is noted as the filling and with a little salad and maybe some crisps on the side, where a chicken burger, you know it’s likely to be either breaded or battered, more often than not one large piece served in a burger bun with established condiments and or toppings, the side will almost always be some type of chips, fries or wedges too. Oh and dryers are purely about personal preference in the UK. I live on my own and don’t really feel that I have a great need for one but pretty much everyone else in my family has one. To be honest though, if both the temperature and wind strength are in that sweet spot (which happens more than you’d think here), it doesn’t take that much longer to dry things outside on the washing line than it does to tumble dry them. Which is better for both the environment and your clothes etc…it also eliminates that chance of shrinking woollens by having them in the dryer for too long on too high a temperature…though it can increase the chances of stretching them if you don’t hang them right.
if you wanted A spicy chilli taste you should have ask for a Chilli burger, or you can get a plain burger and spice it up with separate sauce and seasoning yourself. The sandwich was hot slices of roast beef slapped between two slices of bread. and taken as a snack originally created in 1762 by John Montagu, the 4th Earl of Sandwich.
Stella and dogs seems like a good place to stay

I don't think the garden / yard terminology is as different as some people think. It's simply that 99% of British have grass & plants. So they absolutely fit your definition of a "garden". Admittedly a lot of the time it's totally neglected or overgrown, but you'd very rarely see a yard with no vegetation behind a UK home.

Costa Del South Shields!!! I am blessed as far as South Shields is concerned - every single time i have been there it has been properly 'cracking flags' hot. It IS like being on holiday abroad every time i've been.
Most houses have tumble dryers. The washing machine in the kitchen is because most houses were built before white goods were common, so no utility room. Never understood Americans having one in the bathroom though… you poo and pee there! Also NOT having power switches on plug sockets seems more bizarre to me.

@@AdcrofromTikTok I’ve got separate washer and dryer but I’m thinking for a small property it’s a good idea.
Bear in mind that you are in a small house. Many houses have utility (laundry) rooms - usually next to the kitchen - that house the washing machine and spin drier etc.
You went to a Workingmans Club! Totally a unique UK experience
Those dogs hold a tune. 🤣🤣
