Do I need a desoldering gun to remove the old power connector? Can I just unsolder it using a solder wick? I have never soldered anything before.

Hi Pardee, not necessarily, but I would highly recommend practicing on older devices if you have never done this before. You could watch my recent video, where I do something similar with the old connector: kzread.info/dash/bejne/iWyOzrZtp725n9Y.html
Does the usb c have any safe guards for overdraw? I feel like using the wrong battery pack could fry the system

Hi Draw! I don’t think that this is necessary. The charging is still handled over the internal circuitry of the GBA.
