Against IP is "right"? Seemed pretty much just about freedom. It was a good read. I have Against Intellectual Monopoly in my backlog. IP laws actually result in the opposite of their intent and stifle innovation.

Digital-only consoles suck but physical copies of games isn't the way for games preservation anyway. A piece of plastic sitting on some dude's shelf gathering dust does nothing to preserve the game. Digital copies stored amongst the community is preservation. Let's call it "ROM collecting". The games companies have another word for it though.

Exactly. If they were interested in game preservation, they'd be making sure all their games were released physically, and be installable offline and off the disk; wouldn't be trying to push game downloading and streaming as hard as they are.

So glad I got a Series X with a disc drive so I can play my hard copies, and if that fails I still got my PC with emulators. Microsoft seems to be taking a page out of Nintendo's book regarding media.

Only got gamers to blame for buying into the digital only platforms & microtrnasactions for its convenice. Now they want complain about something they caused.

This is a good time as any to mention that Alan Wake 2 isn't going to have the full game on the disc, because Xbox only supports 50gb discs and Alan Wake 2 is ~80gb, so you'll need an internet connection

We all know the only people that care for "Game Preservation" are living on High Seas

What Xbox really wants: 1. The user should have NO ownership of games whatsoever (ergo no physical media) 2. The user should pay a monthly fee to play on our platform (Gamepass) 3. Xbox will have a monopoly on the digital market and control prices as they see fit. 4. Xbox will prices of base games to 100$ and special editions will start from 120$, DLC's we'll be 40$ at a minimum. Remember: No company is your friend, not Xbox, Sony, Nintendo, Intel, Nvidia or AMD. If they can charge you more giving less they'll do it.

Remember with X1 release that gamers were outraged by Microsoft requiring you to always being online in orden to use the console? Me neither.

It makes me laugh when xbots ignore these signs and just clap like seals at whatever the execs say.

Every time you here "empowering" you can be sure it's gonna be shit. Every. Time.

I can get why they'd be shutting down the 360 Online marketplace. There is virtually no reason to keep it up and running is it's Operating at a loss because no one is using it. Though at the same time. Can't 'digitally preserve' everything if you take it down. At least they're not pulling a Ubisoft and pro-actively reclaiming their games.

Of course actions will always speak louder than words.

I'm happy for XBOX with its commitment to game preservation, but they need to make it easier, like for example making it easier for us to play games from the original XBOX, 360, and One discs on the XBOX Series without downloading.
